I agree with you Dilbert. Finding the right practitioner makes all the difference in the world. I have a man doctor but he listens and is extremely willing to try things I suggest. This discussion is one of the reasons why I love this place so much. Who gives a rats ass if we're talking about menopause in a ho thread :P |

So agree with you about a woman doctor around the same age, if you can luck into one. Choices are so limited here. I have a friend who doesn't have insurance, finally went to the doctor! She's been on her "period" for about a year! 51 soon. Apparently her doctor just told her that can happen, but it seems really scary to me. I think she should have a scan, or at least a freaking ultrasound. |

Mariah, I had my period for damn near two years, non- stop. I had biopsies, ultrasounds, bloodwork and more pelvic exams than I care to remember. They sent my uterus to pathology and it was 'normal'. The gyno surgeon told me sometimes there is no diagnosable reason, it just happens. I'd been seeing a woman doctor the same age as me when the never ending period was going on and when she suggested another biopsy, I told her no freaking way and asked her for the name of her gynecologist. I went to her and she was shocked my regular doc had let it go on for so long. I told her I was, too, and that's why I was in her office. I had a partial hysterectomy a week later and it was the best thing I ever did for myself. |

OMG... I don't know how you guys went through that! My longest was 3 weeks and I was about ready to scream. My care giver here actually isn't a doctor, but a nurse practioner and about my age. I love her. So much better than the health care I had in Texas. |

I bled constantly for a long time. I was told it was because I am overweight. But damn, even when I was pretty thin (once, just once) I still had constant bleeding. Not heavy, but something every day which meant a pad all the time. So I went on the pill and was perfectly regular for all those years. Then I turned 40 and the doctor, a woman (and famous, on TV on Bravo shows at times*) said "you can't have it anymore" and gave me something else that didn't work at all. So I went back to bleeding all the time, but lightly and regular period bleeding 4 days a month. I'd have times when for four to six months I wouldn't bleed at all and I'd think "it's fixed! I'm normal!" -- then it would start again. Strangely I was never iron deficient. Like Dilbert I went 11 months with no period then had one, a normal length but was very bummed because I thought I was done with them. Now it's been … six months. So in six months, if all goes well, I'll be done. My mother had a hysterectomy at age 40 and bam! into menopause, but they gave her hormones … and then she had that brain tumor on her pituitary gland last year & that is where hormones are produced. Coincidence? Who knows. But she was pregnant 8 times, had seven kids … her poor uterus was worn out. Unfortunately, she had a male surgeon and he took her ovaries, too -- completely unnecessary and the woman I worked for at the time was married to a doctor and knew the surgeon through medical circles and she said "he does that, he's not a good doctor" … I learned a lesson and always, always go to a woman for female issues. My male PCP right now wanted to do a pap on me and I said "no" and he was puzzled. I just said "I always go to a woman" and he was STILL puzzled. LOL -- dude! get a clue! * See? Bravo. I'm on topic. ;) |

I take HRT. The nurses study was flawed in that they could not separate out the increase in breast cancer due to obesity or HRT. I don't present that risk factor and since I went through early menopause (before 40) and have no ovaries, it makes the decision an easy one. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/menopause/in-depth/hormone-therapy/art-20046372 When you go through it so early, it is almost mandatory as estrogen is needed for a healthy heart, bones, brains and tissue. I would discuss it with your doctor. Short term usage to help get through the night sweat period is not uncommon and shouldn't increase your risks. Some women my age on the pill are in effect using HRT (at a higher dosage) without even realizing it. I have friends who go off the pill and never get a period again because they are so old. They went through menopause while on the pill! Like Ramona's phantom pregnancy! |

I'm right there with you. I think it's a year. I haven't been paying attention. Last time I got it I had it twice and heavy with in 2 weeks. Nothing since. I still get those horrible night sweats - Couple times a week a skip them and only use one t shirt - actually I sleep with a/c on 65 and in nothing most times. Then in the early morning I get cold. It's crazy. I know it would be less if I drank less wine but I won't give it up. I take no hormones. I put on 9 pounds in 2 years but I was also entirely inactive this winter since it was so bad. I took that black cohash once and put on 5 pounds so quickly I stopped taking it. |

I missed the Sonja convo and have yet watched this week. If she had created a company as someone mentioned, the company could have gone bankrupt and she would not have personal bankruptcy. She wasn't smart on that part. That's how all the rich people (cough cough-Donald Trump for one) was able to retain wealth and property even though he went bust in the multi millions at least twice I think. |

Mario looks a little scared. I think Avery is a force to be reckoned with. Do you think Ramona got a blowout? Her ends look terrible! Edited by Finestra, May 9 2014, 02:17 PM.

Here's another tweet:
"I'm a crazy fucking lunatic, functioning alcoholic, with no impulse control and crazazazay eyes and a lowlife cheating husband." All snark aside, I do think she has some personal struggles that are physiological based. Edited by Finestra, May 9 2014, 02:21 PM.

Hmmm, I hadn't really considered that. Like what? I wonder who took that family pic and where? Maybe just the waiter. |

Yes! And then Kristen appeared out of nowhere and splashed her. So Ramona broke a bottle over her head. |

It wasn't a show, tabloids, or comments that broke up your family, Ramona. It was your husband. Please get that straight in your wine addled mind and put the blame squarely where it lies. It is your choice to stay with him or not.
