Guess I've been lucky. I've had friends who have been mugged and/or much worse. I've never had an incident in 27 years here. Guess I'm due, but I hope not. Honestly I don't think it really makes a difference if there is a bad person. Wrong place wrong time. Nobody knows. You can control yourself as the thread has mentioned above but you can't other people.

Very true, ccc.

I so miss living in San Francisco, and for the most part I always felt safe (in my neighborhood anyway, the Marina.) I often walked home alone after dark, or went down to the bay late at night. A guy did try to break in through my fire-escape, but that was really the only issue I had in over a decade. Then again, I generally stayed away from the sketchy areas of town.

Wow, Mariah and Ryebread! Ted Bundy. Wow!

I lived alone as a young woman, early 20s, in a sketchy part of a big city with lots of crime. I know that what saved me from harm was having my big black dog walk with me everywhere. She was a sweetheart, but protective. I was lucky to have her.

Ha! Just watched the previews for the 2nd episode of True Blood, and they are holding up a picture of the red-headed waitress...and I had to rewind twice because I thought it was a picture of Jill Zarin.

I volunteer at my local library. I picked up a copy of Kelly's book and OMG, it was a waste of paper. There were some recipes in it, it is basically a diet cookbook and they were super easy and don't seem to be very good. She had some hints in it. For example, use an iron to make grilled cheese sandwiches.

Wait, Kelly has a book? Oh dear. That's as crazy as the Countless doing an etiquette book. I think Kelly saw the thing about grilled cheese sandwiches in a movie. Or maybe she isn't allowed to work the stove.

Isn't Kelly's book called, "I Can Make You Hot" I am not so sure how grilled cheese sandwiches fits into that. Wait, did Kelly write the bikini book on a Blackberry too, or is it only Bethenny who writes on the Blackberry?

The bikini book was before the time of Blackberries. ;) Also, it's mostly photos.

Someone on Top Chef All Stars made grilled cheese sandwiches with an iron during the Target Store challenge. He won the challenge for making "perfect stoner food", IIRC. Dale something. Anyway, maybe Kelly got hooked on Top Chef when she was dating Sam.

That Top Chef epi annoyed me because the judges acted like using the iron to grill the sandwich was the most clever idea ever!

Didn't they know that Johnny did it first almost 20 years ago?

I was just going to say that! AND, I'm an old movie buff, was it Jack Lemon who used a tennis racket as a strainer for Spaghetti?

In that challenge though, it was a smart move, those hot plates and such were crap.

Ahhh yes ryebread - THAT'S the movie I saw the iron and grilled cheese trick: Benny and Joon. I knew I saw it somewhere. Thanks.

She DOES have a book. Miracles do happen. It's called I Can Make You Hot! She's been all over the place promoting it. Haven't seen it.

People have been using an iron to make grilled cheese for AGES. Johnny Depp didn't make it up and neither did Top Chef.
