Finestra - I'm still amazed that anyone would pay that much to rent a place. Damn, that's more than a lot of people make in a year. |

This rivals the lost at sea therapy session of Bethenny. |

Does anyone think that Kelly is getting a room comped at Montauk Yacht Club this summer? She keeps tweeting about it:

Of course she is but I guess she'll have to start admitting it soon since advertising celebs will need to put "ad" in very soon. It's the new law. So let's see if she changes it and if not then she's paying. |

What they pay to rent out there would buy them a lovely vacation in Tahiti, Hawaii, or the south of France, or almost anywhere--I don't get it either. I have been to the Hamptons, and frankly, I don't get the hype. It's OK, and I know it's close to NYC, but if I wanted to pay that much for a vacation, give me warm, clear, turquoise water and tropical flowers blooming all around me. I can see buying if you lived in NYC, because it's a quick weekend and holiday getaway, or the whole "wife and family stay" and husband pops home on the weekends during the summer. But the rentals? I really don't understand. ETA I do understand a bunch of young kids getting together and sharing a house for a week--because then it's almost affordable. Nah, not really, tickets to the Caribbean or Hawaii would be much cheaper. Edited by Mariah, Jun 4 2013, 03:05 PM.

They still go on vacations in addition to rentals - count on it - it's for the rich. It's easy so if you have to work you can easily get there and escape the summer heat. The beaches are gorgeous. EH beach is one of the tops anywhere. I prefer the Caribbean. It's social for them too - they go to parties etc. and it's all within 2 hours. I know lots of people whose husbands come out for the weekends and they stay there all summer. They do rentals because the house upkeep is crazy. Also you don't have to do the entire summer so you can do both like you say Mariah - trip to France and a month in the Hamptons. The restaurants are good too. Some people rent for a few summers before buying to see if they want to buy. Anyway, as I said, these people have so much money it doesn't matter. Those rentals are top though. You can get rentals for a few thousand for a week and still enjoy it. Not everything is that obscene in price. |

I understand why people rent in the Hamptons for all the reasons CCC said. It's the social scene, some of the beaches are great, proximity to NYC for those corporate titans. If you've got the money and can still afford other trips, I'd be all over that. What I don't understand and I'm not being judgey is...timeshares at Disneyworld. We know 6 families who do this and spend every vacation - 2+ per year - at the same place. And have since 2000. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I just don't quite understand it. Anybody here do that? Does it evolve that much that there is always something new to do and see? Is it the familiarity? That the kids love it? |

Oh yes, rye...one of my best friends (single and over 50!) is in the Disney Vacation Club. She goes at least once a year. We went last August and it was fun for the kids, but if I had to go every year, I'd shoot myself. |

We know a family like that. I don't think they own a timeshare but they go to Disney at least once a year. Their kids are about 15 and 11 now so they aren't even little and their both boys. They have Disney figurines in their house, Disney t-shirts, etc. It's just weird but then again that whole family is kinda weird. I've been to the Disney in CA before, not to the FL one. We had a connection at one time that got us into Disneyland for free, which saved us a TON of money. The first time the kids were still young and it was a lot of fun. The second time, it was okay but we'd already BTDT. I don't know that we would have even gone back the second time if it hadn't been free again. To me it's the same as any other amusement park, especially if your children aren't small. I don't know of too many 15yo's who give a crap if Snow White is walking around. |

Oh we are such Disney nerds around here. We started going when my oldest was 3 and it was magical. We laugh because we were staying at the Wilderness Lodge and our room looked out on construction and the front desk guy said, "You're part of the magic!" My kids loved the magic of it. And since I had so many, we always had one young enough to love seeing the characters. They watched disney movies all the time. I think we have been 11 or 12 times. Sick right? It became a family tradition. Up early, at the parks when they open and back to the resort by 1 or 2 for an afternoon at the pool. It really was a fun, family time vacation. We had our routes and routines. Where else can you go with 4 kids and not have to worry about them making noise or even having the occasional melt down? Even as the boys got older, they played along with the younger ones. We liked staying at the Deluxe resorts because they had great pools. Never did the vacation club, but in hindsight, we should have considering how many times we ended up going. We were just talking about doing one last trip. The boys haven't been in about 5 years, and the girls haven't been in 3 or 4. The last few times we went, we ended up spending the last 2 days at Universal for the rides. |

I loved our Florida/Disney vacations. I've been to Cali Disneyland- but only for the day. I think I'm something of a lazy Mom/Traveler; I like things comfy and I don't like them crazy. I loved the hotels we stayed in at Disney; and all of the convenience. They had cool swimming pools- which my kids loved almost as much as the park; and we were able to do as much or as little as we wanted each day and it was still really fun. Every time we took the kids to Disney; we came home feeling as if we had actually BEEN on Vacation- a little rested, nice :) |

LOL...and I came back hot and exhausted. I guess I'm not an amusement park person. And our hotel room at the Contemporary cost more than our room at the Ritz in Maui. |

I've been to Disneyworld 9 times. Twice for a Kwik-Kopy Printing convention and the other 7 were for high school (4 years) and college (3 years) national dance team competitions. I'm going again this coming January as my daughter is now into running. She's signed up for the Dopey Challenge. She will run a 5K on Thursday, 10K on Friday, 1/2 marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday. I'm a spectator! LOL We stayed at The Dolphin for the conventions and All Star Resorts for dance. This time I'll be staying at Port Orleans, Riverside. I lived in Los Angeles when I was little and my parents would take us to Disneyland. I think we went to Knotts Berry Farm more though. |
