I love those, too -- but pricing ... Fredrick is a God of pricing. Like Marble House -- sure it's discussed before the cameras roll, but just saying "$17 million" .... based on what? Well, based on comps and what has sold, etc. But it fascinates me.

Those "buyers" (not sure if there really were any) were stupid -- if NYC FiDi can recover from 9/11 in a year, they can recover from anything.

weaver, you know NY inside and out! Your anecdotes are fascinating.

I agree, the show is quite scripted. However, the reason I really enjoy it is because the true personalities of the guys come out. Fredrik is so very arrogant and cocky. Ryan is too, but doesn't wear it as well as Fredrik. I just saw a repeat with Michael and I don't miss him. I can take or leave Luis. Love that he messed with Ryan, though, no matter how scripted.

The other thing that fascinates me is the bravado of the rich who are putting their homes on the market. They really seem to think their places are worth all that (and many might be) and then Fredrik puts them in their place when he says 2.7 million instead of the 3.5 they wanted to ask.

The repeat I just watched from the first season featured a gorgeous home with a very expensive-looking chandelier. Fredrik called it "the spaghetti lamp." The owner was really taken aback. I love those moments.

I love Fredrik too. Nice to see him with his dog and boyfriend.

Either Ryan is a good actor, or he really had nowhere to go during Sandy. I believed him.

My favorite moment with Ryan EVER was when he was selling that $5million dollar place on Grammercy Park. He had the nephew/real estate guy of the wannabe purchaser at the other side of the table while he was eating and he just waited and kept eating, chewing, chewing ... finally the guy called him an asshole and agreed to the price. He really is ruthless and I dig that.

Ryan sold a crap apartment this week. Yeah, that was believable, the woman calls up and says I want it, sold, no bargaining, no nothing. And none of those Battery Park apts looked too special. I hated the whole "Chinese woman bow lady" routine.

Frederik had the nice house.

Luis, the Puertan Rican (yes, he told us again) edited those pics. I don't believe a word of it. Gosh, that place was awful, I wonder how much he ended up getting, if it sold.

I'm missing the huge grand apartments of year one. Maybe because the market is hopping, no one is willing to film. They don't have to. I'm also missing some UES stuff that Lorber used to sell.

Weaver - on WWHL Louis admitted he did the photoshopping and the probation was very real. I have tried twice to DVR this episode. Sigh. I'll catch it one of these days. Can you give me a run down of what happened? I'm piecing it together from WWHL and the commercials.

Re Ryan. I do think he's vyle, and most likely has no friends. But the Sandy stuff was taped about two weeks after Sandy. wouldn't put it past him or Bravo to craft that storyline.

Oooh, Shopper, you have the inside scoop! Two weeks AFTER Sandy? Makes sense that the camera people were hiding out, too.

Recap of last weeks show

That's a good recap. I'll add more later, I'm off to the beach today. It finally got nice.

osh mispronounced Van Eyck and way underestimated the amount a Van Eyck would bring in in the marketplace (I think he said $2mil). I think the script was overestimating his knowledge of art. And I don't believe anyone keeps that kind of art in a rental, if it IS real that is.
Reminds me of Woody Allen's Manhattan with Van Gock! Did she say Van Gock?!

I want to see gorgeous apts and I'm getting sick of the fake storylines they are focusing on. That whole Chinese woman thing with Ryan was almost insulting. Of course she participated in it herself with her stereotypes. That whole stupid bow thing, I who cares if she makes silly bows, I want to see gorgeous places. Her first apt was a run of the mill apt in lower Manhattan financial district, 15 William. What Ryan got her was a nice, but not unbelievable apt at 1 Rector Street, not really special. I wish they had showed more of the Battery Park community, which is quite beautiful.

And Luis' building was a dump. The guy had not upgraded in 40 years. If I want to see one bedrooms, I can look at my own apartment. Granted it had great potential, but we are seeing it now. I laughed when the owner said "this kitchen is new," meaning he had upgraded it 20 years ago.

I miss the real luxury stuff they showed last year.

For the LA show they have mostly beautiful homes, though some wrecks that are being sold for the property value, rather than the house value. But with NYC you're gonna have dumps that have huge sticker prices. I worked for a celebrity who lived/rented on Downing Street. It's a GORGEOUS little street (I know you know, Weaver -- isn't it?) and so the price didn't surprise me, nor the condition of the home. What I wanted was for Luis to stage a better showing -- not photoshop the pix. Show us how it could be made over and worth the money in a few days. They did it last year and I enjoyed it.

Luis is not skillful enough. He thinks charm and good looks are enough and I think he is wrong.

Yes I know it's a gorgeous little short Street. But I don't think there's any way to stage those kitchens and bathrooms to disguise how obsolete they are. And I'm sure the owner wouldn't have been willing to declutter his apartment. He was determined to get his 8 million regardless of what it looked like.

Agree, Icy - Luis is not skillful enough. Agree weaver - it should have been sold "as-is" - no way to stage that apt.

Wasn't Ryan almost dismissive of selling the 1. whatever million apartment? He came around when he realized she would be selling and buying another, doubling his commission, but he came off as a douche.

As I have already said, I watched a marathon of Season 1 last week. I don't know what to think about Michael. His father is a powerful, very successful broker/ baron who hired Fredrik because of course he could see his potential - and Michael just came across as a dithering person who couldn't close a deal. I don't feel sorry for him, because he's been accorded a lot of privilege, but the way his father looked at him made him look pathetic. I wonder if we'll see more of Michael's dad this season (if he's still Fredrik's boss).

What I want to know is...how many bows did she have to sell to afford that apartment?
