As with most people browsing the internet I tend to find things I've searched for (and subsequently hadn't found) long after the initial attempt. Today I just found how to run homebrew on the Wii.

http://wiibrew.org/index.php?title=Twilight_Hack

It involves a glitch within Twilight Princess that causes an overflow and triggers a bootable ELF file on your SD card. You just replace the default TP save with the proper one from this site (determined by the data version on the clear part of your disc) using an SD card.

I'm not sure how well, or even if, it works. So I'm formatting my sister's SD card now to try it (payback for deleting my topics :D ). I'll be trying to run PoC Linux for the Wii:

I'll post my results soon

==========UPDATE==========

It worked...sort of. The hack did successfully overflow. It started to boot the kernel. Unfortunately it froze. I think it's because I didn't have and SD card in a GC memory slot (don't have one of those devices). I'm going to look for some other homebrew apps to try out.

Thats amazing and all, but I don't get the point of running Linux on a Wii.
Now if you can run a Wii on the Linux, that's a different matter.

Its just the first homebrew app I came across. I also tried an SNES emulator but that caused an exception since it wasn't designed to work with this method. The TP method was just released yesterday I think.

This is quite interesting. There are plenty of reasons for running Linux on the Wii. Problem is... it's Linux :P

I might see if I can get the Paradigm Engine to work with the homebrew devkit. Depends on if I can get the environment setup right :P . It would really kickass once they add net support to the kit (already have it for the DS homebrew crowd).

Also, a correction to my statement about the TP hack being released a few days ago. That is for the latest version (3a with front SD support).

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\EDIT\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Just to update you guys, I got the development environment set up. Its an online installer. Sets up the environment on its own; compiler, libs, includes, variables, etc. I also compiled the Hello World example that came with it. I'll give it a try on my Wii tomorrow :D . This is very exciting.

Well, I got to playing around in it today. I managed to get an old Gamecube homebrew example working (partially). Here's a vid:

I was having a problem with it not rendering until I realized that this is a C language and I have to change the data type :D . Now everything works but the controls, I'm just gonna wait until Wiimote support is added (just GC controller for now).

Lmao, I was expecting that question. Its my sister's room. I sleep on the couch in the living room. When, or more appropriately if, I get the controls working right I'll record it on the 42" Plasma in the living room.

I've already reimplemented the score tracking that was originally in the example. I also upped it from a max of 99 to 999.

////////////EDIT////////////

Great news guys, I finally got movement working. I was missing the line of code (which wasn't there to begin with) which checked controller status (button press/stick movement). I'm thinking its about time to bring back Acid Pong*. Possibly one of the greatest games I ever made.

* - Originally titled Stoner Pong, the game was random timer based. When the timer reset it would invert colors, activate magnets, and invert controls. Provided some fast-paced action when the timer got on a streak of 3 second switches.

===========EDIT2=============

Just finished adding in the code for drawing text, It only draws numbers right now since I don't have the font converted :D . After I get that done I'll add in a start notice and a reset combo (probably L+R), that should be done tomorrow. Then I'll start adding in the timer and timer based events (magnets/invert controls/invert colors).
