Ain't no party like a Party Palm party cuz a Party Palm party don't stop!

For the past few days I've been playing the original Harvest Moon, which is the most addicting game ever created. This is a concept that just hit me. I live in an area surrounded by land zoned for ag and a lot of the smaller farms are no longer being utilized other than the house. What if I could get someone (preferably w/ a second home) to let me have the property (buildings, land, and tools), probably totaling 3-4 acres, on the catch that I farm it and most of the income (75-90%) goes directly to them. It would start as a one year experiment and see where it goes from there.

I have absolutely no (that is zero) experience in farming. I think not only could it be an interesting story in the local papers and news stations but possibly a major hit on youtube (if I could get my friend in on it, he is kickass at video editing). I know the idea is still a little rough around the edges, but this is something I think would be fun to do.

Ahhh harvest moon was awsome, shame that my game would always corrupt after about 2 years when i was making tons of money.

It might be a little difficult with no experience in farming, and would require a lot of manual labour at the beggining for little gain.

But yeah it does sound fun

Little gain? If I were to purchase off the shelf corn seed (not that hybrid shit) and bust my ass on one acre of it I'd make a fairly substantial profit. The off the shelf for an acre would come to around $4-6 I think (I've never planted corn, may be massive underestimation), with even an 80% success rate that would be mid $700 for the acre (at reported $6 a bushel). Mid $900 if it were 100%. And you can typically get two crops of corn in a season, $1400-1800 in one year on an acre of corn alone.

Of course I'd have to research other crops too since they could give a larger return for less initial investment.

Farming is pretty hard and can be pretty frustrating, but you could probably give it a fairly good shot. However I'd question why the land isn't being utilised; is it because of no interest in farming, or is there something wrong with the land? Worth a shot I suppose, but it'll be a lot of hard work to start with and there won't be much gain until later on; it'll take quite a while for the crops to mature to the point where they can be sold at any sort of useful profit.

Farming is not something to be done as a hobby. It's really a full-time deal. You need large, expensive equipment unless you're ready to sow that acre by hand. A rototiller would be adequate.

Where I live, corn production is out the wazoo, and it's planted by now.

Farmers are the most interesting people, I think. They're never high-strung or eccentric, always laid back and firm.
Vicious, you should be able to sympathize: There's a brick-layer-turned-corn farmer less than a mile away by the name of "Porky" Gladys, who owned one of SIXTY FOUR Hemi Chargers produced in 1971. It was totally original, never modified, barely driven, I think it had <44k on the clock, absolute perfect condition. Some guy offered him a six-digit figure for it, and less than a week later, Porky was using an acetylene torch, and the regulator was broke, and he couldn't shut it off. The garage he had ,the Charger in burnt, Charger included. It wasn't a bad fire but did enough damage. It wasn't an insurance thing, because he didn't have insurance on the Charger. He also had a '40 Ford in the same garage. If it were me, I would have shot myself. That car was worth more than everything he owned. Just goes to show you how strong some people are.

I have pix somewhere I got from the local newspaper photographer.
The glass shattered under the heat, the paint got crazed, the tires melted, I imagine the interior is OK, those bodies were damn wide in '71. I would go to say that it would probably still run, but he has it on a 7' lift at the moment so when he has the garage door open people can't see the car. I was hoping someone would hear about it and perhaps donate a new Challenger to him, at least. Maybe I can dig up the article in the archives.

Found it:

There are several reasons land wouldn't be used. For instance, it may be a small family farm (3-5 acres) and the owners are too old and their kids have no interest in farming (very common) or have no kids at all. Then they can't really lease out the land itself since most of the time that is a 100+ acre thing. My parents just bought 12 acres, they're gonna plant alfalfa on 1 acre to feed cows all summer (for winter butcher) and another acre with shit for them to can to last all year. Of course that's after the house is built and the panels/turbines are generating.

That's sad what happened to that Charger. Would've loved to have that.

Today I saw a new Dodge Challenger in person.
O. M. F. G.
They make the mustang look like a mustang again.
Hell, they make a Corvette look like a Corsica.
I saw a Ferrari 360 Spider the other day and wasn't as impressed. Sorry I look so haggard, I have really bad hat hair. I have proof:

But as per the challenger, I can't believe it's a production car. It looks SO cash.

I love the new challengers, my parents and I entered a raffle to win one (out of two). It would be great if two of us won :D .

Why don't you stop using the metric system. Sure its easier to remember multiples of ten, but that just makes you lazy.

IMO, the new challengers are more impressive than a Corvette. Will the SRT-8 outrun the Corvette?
I don't think I've seen a side by side comparison. I would rather own a new Challenger, a $40,000 car, than a Viper, a $60,000 car.

Engines:
CHALLENGER SRT-8, 6.1L 425 HP MoPar Hemi engine
CORVETTE Z06, 7.0L 505 HP GM LS7 engine

0-60 MPH
CHALLENGER SRT-8, 4.445 s
CORVETTE Z06, 3.667 s

1/4 Mile
CHALLENGER SRT-8, ~14 s
CORVETTE Z06, ~9.5 s

PRICE
CHALLENGER SRT-8, $41,900
CORVETTE Z06, $72,900

Hm, the Corvette beats the Challenger in pretty much everything, but it's a close race- more so than it's EVER been.
Either way, I'd take the Challenger.

Nothing really to add, just checking in after another night shift. Worst job of the night: somebody OD'd on heroin or something, was in cardiac arrest and his "friends" were trying to do CPR on him. Problem: they were as high as a kite too, so they had absolutely no idea what was happening. Fantastic!

You know, bullets don't do their work these days.
You ought to lend them to drug addicts and instruct two words: "AN HERO".

Sorry to hear it, though.
He alive? Oh, hell, what's it matter... The life of a drug addict isn't life anyway.

How's the job going overall? Hope it's well, but I can't see it being more than mediocre.

He was taken to hospital but I have no idea if he made it or not. I'd guess that he might not have though. Other than that the job is pretty good, 80% of calls are routine "I has chest pains ambulance plz?" and stuff like that, it's only friday nights when everybody is drunk and out on the town that things turn to shit.

Chest pains usually should go to hospital, although ambulance need not necessary. With gas on the rise here, and most US ambulances sporting an eight-cylinder engine, people needing med service are gonna be SOL soon.

Chest pain = possible hearts attack, so we get there as fast as possible and start taking them to hospital. They get an ambulance here just incase they go into arrest en route.
