From reading gamers views on various forums it seems that the replay and save system, whilst initially sounding flawed and confusing, acrually works really well

Seems that although you can complete the game once you can replay it loads

Its going to be a marmite game me thinks but for me it shows a lot of promise and looks to be something that little bit different

I object to them using a single save file as a way of upping the challenge of the game - that should be up to the player really. Maybe offer a reward for only using a single save or something, but don't force it upon people.

On the other hand, the gaming massochist in me looks forward to the old skool style challenge it offers.

Well, it can't be as harsh as the save system in Ring of Red (PS2 launch title for those who can't remember). In that, you could save the game mid-mission but when you loaded it, it removed the save again so if you died you had to restart the mission, which normally took a couple of hours at the stage I got to.

Tried the Dead Rising demo the other week and I was bloody terrible at it. Not that I have a 360 mind, but then again, this gameisn't going to persuade me to get one either. It seems ok, but it's just a little too repetitive for me even in the small amount of time that the demo allows.

The demo isn't really the game - it's just you mucking around in the mall - in game terms you don't actually do anything.

Are you rubbish at doing nothing? ;)

Well, er, in essence yeah :D

Just rubbish at killing zombies in imaginative ways, or any other way for that matter. I think I actually DIED, which puts it into perspective! I could see myself getting very bored very quickly though. If it was kung-fu oriented then maybe I'd give it a chance.

Good job I can still kick both my bros ass on Pro evo 4 and Timesplitters 2 isn't it?

Meh - try Tekki/Steel Battalion. You die? you start from scratch as it completely deletes your savefile. Now that was fucking harsh! Admitedly this wasnt common, you could eject fairly easily which meant "just" a massive loss of supply-points and replaying the level, but sometimes when you were a bit slow... a game to never play while a bit drunk!

EDIT: i should add that as a device to increase tension it totally worked. When you knew you were going into a tough mission the fear when under heavy fire was palpable. Death had real consequences in Tekki, and hence it really made you want to avoid it. A complete oppersite of the quick-save & load mentality which all-but negates the difficulty level in some games. It wouldnt work in all games, but you'd have pant-wetting moments when the flames errupt in your cockpit and you'd be ramming on the Eject button thinking "shit-fuck-shit-fuck dont die!"

I'm not keen on the whole forced replay thing either. I didnt like collecting coins or rings or whatever, and dont like the Resident Evil model of replaying to get the most out of a game. Bargin bin for me, as it looks fun, just not overly involved. How good would this have been with an online mode? Can you imagine rocking thru 50,000 zombies with trashtalk, "accidental" team kills and hiding in cupboards?!

Here's hoping for the sequel! Online multi-player would be just fantastic. It'd be how Resident Evil Outbreak should've been.

I had a play around on the demo again last night and granted there's not a whole lot of variety in this brief chunk but as a pick up and play title it's pretty much spot on.

Definitely keeping my pre-order for this one.

Coming from someone who thinks Blu-ray and HD-DVD are pointless media formats...so sad.

This game has to be one of the most pointless, boring, shit arse games ever made, for shit heads.

No offence, mate, but I've read all of your posts on here this evening and they've been, without exception, objectionable. Why don't you just fuck off!

Yeah I think hes just a bored little Internet troll. We can just ignore the child.

Or, he can reply to this and tell me its my fault that my Dead Rising wont load! Damn it! Gets to the front-end perfectly, but as soon as you select to start the game it comes up with a disc-error. Apparently quite common too looking around the net. If you remove the HDD it works fine, but that of course doesn't really help me out too much.

Sigh!

Well I have an update.

This morning morning I took to work my HDD and my copy of Dead Rising. I put it in the 360 in our demo room at work (which is PAL launch, and has a HDD). The game loaded perfectly without any issues.

Check this: I then attached my hard drive to the works Xbox and began playing the game. Selected the HDD, Begin game, and... It worked. Perfectly.

So its an issue with certain Xbox consoles.

I emailed Capcom last night., hopefully I will get a reply today (doubtful though I know). Anyway, I thought I would update you on the situation...

So far I give Dead Rising 0/10. I might offer to do the review... :)

Sorry to hear about your problems mate :(

I'm going to be taking my copy round to my mates tomorrow so I'll see if he's affected by this fault.

Friend of mine has an ealy 360 from the first batch of releases and the game refuses to load. He bought a core version a short while back and it loads up, and plays ok 99% of the time with the odd dirty disc error.

Seems like the whole "PS2 dual layer discs don't like playing on early machines" all over again.
