I was playing this a bit more over at my mates this weekend who's just got a 40 inch HD TV which puts my old Wega to shame. Looks loverly plus you can read the text which is always a plus point! Anywho, I really, really like this game. Definitely my favourite 360 game so far. I hope this turns into a decent franchise because with co-op and multiplayer this could be even more spectacular. |

Like it, but the zombies are smarter than the NPCs, which is really frustrating me. Also, why no reload option? Annoyingy when an NPC I'm trying to save is nearly home and then dies. |

Mine didn't arrive over the weekend, but that's just given me more time to cane Saints Row - finished the delightful insurance fraud missions, but struggling on one of the mayhem ones. Causing havoc on the freeway rocks so fuckin hard: the 'spolsions of tanker lorries and transporters just never gets old. EDIT: Sorry, didn't mean to take the thread OT. |

Slight annoyances aside, Dead Rising really is a superb piece of entertainment. Time is pretty tight at times to get to the next Case File, but the game at times does give you a decent amount of free time to catch up on zombie mashing, vising new areas and doing the side quests which Otis provides you with. The mall is vast too, with many shops you'll probably miss on your first play through. I am right at the end of the 72 Hour mode, and I have only just found the hardware shop with the utterly fantastic hydraulic drill - its truely sick. One section of the mall I have been to twice, and hardly visited any of its stores, its crazy! There are also boss fights which don't form part of the story path, but are very enjoyable, unique and rewarding to complete. I have missed at least two of those as I tried to concentrate on the Case Files on this first (of many) play throughs. |

It's not perfect but as you say it is enjoyable. The main niggles I'd like to see fixed include an improvement to the use of guns(aiming is needlessly fiddly) and the escorted NPC characters AI overhauled so they don't die if left alone for a couple of seconds. Don't get me started on the Japanese Tourists! Also it would be nice if you just had a wardrobe back at base where all the clothes you pick up around the mall are held so you can pick and choose what to put on there rather then arsing about in the shops. Not that I'm into dressing people up you understand! Other then that, top stuff! |

I am loving it and it just makes you wander how good a sequal would be if they "fixed" the niggles Save could be improved by having one single "backup" slot - would make difference on them timed missions Aiming not to switch to left stick Books are actually read when you pick them up rather than taking up inventory slot Better AI for NPCs but thats about it Great game |

This game is driving me barmy. Maybe I'm just hitting a bad patch, but the 'niggles' just make me want to scream out loud. I'm trying to escort three NPCs, one has a dodgy leg and so limps a lot. That I can live with. The problem is that I had them saved in the gym in Al Fresco plaza, which has sliding doors, which don't open for anyone other than Frank, and so it's bloody impossible to get them to move out of the gym. If I smash a full height glass window and ask them to follow me, the moment I move out through the broken window they decide that using the sliding doors that they don't understand would be a better option. Having finally mastered ushering them out of there I then have to cross the park, with the, issues contained in doing so (you'll see, they respawn too). And when you hit a loading point, if your NPC's aren't within 5 yards of you they get left behind in the previous area. And then when I finally get these guys near home I'm told that I've missed a main case item and the mystery will never be solved. FFS. To avoid feeling like an absolute lightweight I'm gonna keep trying - I've quit and am restarting with my stats intact. But frankly I've got a lot more interesting things to do than fight this game's 'niggles'. |

Jocky, it sounds like you're hitting the same initial issues I did too with Dead Rising. The important thing you need to remember about the game (this isn't explained, its just the way its been designed and iirc Capcom mentioned it in press releases) is that you aren't supposed to be able to complete it in one sitting. There is so much to the game, that its simply not possible. The best and most efficient way of playing the game is to just concentrate on the Case Files; they are the most important part of the game as they form the story. Miss them and its Story/Game Over. The Case Files are always at the top of the mission list on the right handside of the screen. I am sure you know, but you can set way points for them by pressing Left on the d-pad. I just stopped worried about helping out the usually useless NPCs, and concentrate on leveling up, exploring and enjoying the game. I got really pissed off with the constant calls from Otis, they drove me nuts. Tonight I completed 72 Hour in the game and it was fantastic, I loved every minute of the game, bar the annoyances. Frank was lvl. 35 when I completed it, so he was pretty nails hard. Also, don't worry about dying and havin to restart. Frank will restart the game will the stats you had when you died, which is very handy and makes it easier to get back to where you were when you died. Stick with it if you can mate, its such a unique game that has gameplay mechs have I don't think have been done before, the game Capcom have made is really quite different from anything else out there, espeicallu other much bigger/open games like GTA. It's certantly different, and I can't recommend it enough. Ingore the side missions/scoops for now, and just concentrate on enjoying it. If you get a period in the game where you don't have to do a Case File for a while, perhaps try getting some NPCs rescued. Of course, some of the side missions are rather important.. But they don't break the story mode if you don't complete them. Have fun mate |

After another session with the gam last night I'm no longer in giving up mood, and am now finding the game quite fun... First of all I beat Adam. Fought him and died a couple of times, but spotted his weak points, tooled up on my way next time, and took him down. The rewards for beating him (teeny spoiler here) completely changes the game - the weapon you get is excellent (power and life span) and respawns indefinitely it seems. So I have a couple in my stock, as well as a couple of skill books to extend their lives. But you also get a nice shortcut for the mall, which takes away my annoyance with the park area. The game is now down to a medium difficulty. I think the problem is that the game throws too much at you too early. Staying alive early on is damn hard work. Then you have the guys in the park hunting you down, making it very difficult to get survivors out. And then you hit 7pm and the zombie population/aggression goes up three fold too. and then the lights go out. It's too damn early. If you just hole up over night then you're fine, but until you've got 24 hours in you don't know that's fine - the game is telling you to rescue people. Just a warning from the game early on, or a hint that maybe that saving A. N. Other was a bit beyond me at Frank's current level as they were in a particularly nasty area, and frankly, the zombies are going to eat some people would be nice. |

Well, I've had my first proper sesh with the game and I can't honestly say I'm enjoying it very much. The controls are not very intuitive and the tutorial doesn't explain what's going on half the time unless you happen to wander into specific points which trigger an explanation. The AI of the other characters is so poor, it's bloody annoying. I managed to complete one mission and level up a couple of times, but then I died and now I have to start all over again because I had not been able to find a save point since that first one in the security room. I don't like playing games through more than once and so if you can only complete this one by playing through the same crap multiple times, then they can shove it, frankly! |

Im a few "real hours" in now - level 26 and at a point where (slight spoilers) you have to go and get some things out of the back of trucks which have had there tyres burst (ill not say anymore) but this is the first time the game has frustrated me - its too far to save point - too far too health and just very difficult |

I completed the 72hr Mode again this evening, and this time just spent the time messing around generally, racking up some zombie kills and going clothes shopping. The game is such a laugh, and its nice to play it at a more sedate rate than what it can be if you're playing through the Case Files (which I ignored 100% bar 1-1 and 1-2). There is a scary amount of life in this title, I can't believe how much there is to it. You definetly need to play through at least and not worry about anything but the Case Files, you'll get overwhelmed by the admittedly annoying calls from Ottis pushing you to look into stuff and help survivors. Some are very much worth it though, but it might be worth just leveling up and enjoying it first time through. It's very much like an RPG at times, having to level Frank up so he has the ability and strength to complete certain tasks and missions. |

Stick with it Dunc, this game is upside down - it's far harder early on than later on in the game. I would recommend getting through the first 20 hours of the game, investigating where everyone is, and what difficulties you have with moving them around, and then take your levelled up Frank and start again. I blitzed a load of side missions before the game hit 7pm after restarting, and understood the whole game a load better, putting me in a much better position for the rest of the game. |

I'm really undecided about it. Got rid off first boss and then snuffed it but hadn't saved immediately afterwards....cue repeat performance (but with lawnmower this time). I could see the not remembering to save thing getting real old real quick. |
