Couldn't find the old thread so figured I'd start a new one.

With the latest 360 update including compatibility with Black I thought I'd give it a go. I mean guns? explosions? what could possibly go wrong? Plus it'd be a break from the stats heavy Oblivion (which is great btw but I needed a break from it)

Managed to get a copy for just over £20 with a voucher I had so it didn't break the bank.

Anyway, it's brilliant! I'm finding it pretty tough but when you can blow stuff up in such style I'll forgive the relentless difficulty level. Favourite bit so far has been the minefield which is just about the best advert for the game you could get.

Definitely worth picking up if you're suffering from the 360 drought.

Unfortunetly I am stll playing the utterly shite 360 port of Burnout Revenge. Worse. Port. Ever. Most races now running between 5fps and 30fps, and occasionally it hits 60fps. 360 kills another franchise. FOR THE WIN!!

Tomb Raider better be fucking good next week..

However I bought Outrun 2006 C2C yesterday, and all my shitty memories of trashy 360 games vanish as I play this pure arcade classic on Xbox (1). Perfection.

Still only playing FFXI, until last night that is. They closed the Beta Test 17 days before the release of the 360 version of the firkin game!!! Now way am I going cold turkey for that long, so I'll be installing the emergency PC version tonight that I got a couple of weeks ago for just such an unforseen circumstance.... Have to start from scratch, but it's better than nothing.

or, do I buy ESIV:Oblivion?

I've had no probs with Burnout either. In fact, I haven't had half the problems that you seem to have had with 360 games. Only the occasional framerate drop in GRAW. Are you sure you don't have a faulty machine?

Without wishing to be rude either, some of your posts come across (to me at least) as looking for reasons to hate the 360. I can't speak for everyone, but I am very happy with what I've played.

360 drought? :o

I've bought so many 360 games in the last few weeks that I hardly have time to play them all. And April doesn't seem to be short on temptations either!

thats real strange - what cable you connecting with

like said only on first part of game on single player and seems to run like a dream - equally as good as ridge racer and pgr3 (if not faster)

seems to suffer no tearing or jerkiness

With the magic of the Xbox site I can see how much you have played of Burnout 360. You haven't even played the first section offline yet, so its a little unfair to say you've not seen any problems when you've hardly played it.

Online the framerate is much more stable, as its the traffic and AI cars that cause the problems.

And no, we have a number of Xbox 360's at work and the games all play the same as they do on mine at home. I don't hate 360, I just can't rate games that have such serious problems with them. Burnout has serious performace issues which affect gameplay. Some people are able to accept this sort of thing, but I am not, especially when they cost £50.00 and they are ports!

Component cable. Trust me it ain't the hardware :) The first few tracks are fine, although Sunshine Keys drops a fair bit during the very first event.

will try that later - like say only few stages in (think easily offensive) but noticed no problems and very impressed with the live side of things

one way to make you fell happier with burnout is to play far cry on 360 - it looks and feels awful - very unfinshed and not as good as the PC version did when I reviewed that (which has to be 18 months or more)

very shoddy

I know what you are saying about 360 though - I have had around 10 games for it (now 6) and with the exception of COD2 and Oblivion nothing has really grabbed me

I hope all this will change

Played the Batlefield 2 demo on it yesterday though and that holds potential - actually looked very nice and moved well - easier to get up and running than the PC version and looked equally as good in 720p

...and to think that PS2 had fuck-all decent for it for fuckin AGES. Sorry, but I'm with Zai on this - yeah there's deffo some technical issues, but the sheer amount of disparate games released this soon after a launch that are more than just graphics demos (which is the way with most launches) has impressed me.

Different strokes and all that, I guess ;)

I've mostly been lagging behind with all this next-gen fun/fustration and buying cheap XBOX games on eBay.

Currently playing The Punisher (XBOX) which I got for £3.70 \m/

I'm a big fan of The Punisher as a character so I'm really enjoying this despite it being far from perfect. I think I'm about two thirds of the way through it and for a change it's a game that I think I may actually finish :o If only because Garth Ennis wrote the story.

Would quite like to play the new game based on the 2000ad character Rogue Trooper but I can't afford to take a chance on a game that will most probably be shit.

Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney (DS)

I got this to see how a court game would work, and I'm really enjoying it. The twists and turns of the plots are classic Rumpole of the Bailey (although I don't recall him ever having visitations from dead people) and some of the puzzles are really head scratching.

Basically, each case consists of an investigation phase, where you gather evidence, follow leads and interview witnesses, and a courtroom phase where you cross examine witnesses and look for contradictions in their story so you can present the evidence to undermine them. Sometimes the contradictions are obvious, sometimes they are hard to spot so that guessing which piece of evidence to present is tricky, and sometimes you find yourself pressing a witness on every statement in the hope that they let something slip.

The main faults of the game are:

1. It often feels that you are being led by the hand - either the end result of a choice is the same whatever variant you choose, or you're given loads of chances to find the flaw in the story so you can try all the options.

2. The graphics, although nice, are really little more than static backdrops - the game feels more like and interactive comic than a proper game; however, the atmosphere of a courtroom is captured well.

3. There is lots and lots of dialogue to read.

4. The sound is horrible, consisting of an annoying noise as text is typed, awful cheesy music and a few very strange spot effects.

But with such a twisty-turny story and the refreshingly different style of game, these flaws can all be forgiven. A great game to play on the move.
