Been playing Evil Within and loving it. It's janky as fuck to be honest but for some reason I really like it. Also been playing Sunset Overdrive and it's bloody fantastic.
Yeah, I'm really liking it too. Although as I've already said - the camera and borders are an iffy decision. The guys on the Explosive Alan podcast seem to think the letter box view is because the engine couldn't cope with the entire screen. I'm not so sure myself - but I'm not a coder or games design expert (but then, neither are they!).

Nonetheless, it's a good game with and with the exception of Revelations, is the direction Resi should have gone in. Lots of old mechanics and pick ups etc (and I'm an old git so it suits my preferred style with this type of game). My main gripe is the inconsistent amount of ammo etc. Seemingly nothing but then as soon as you have a set piece - you can't move for ammo and syringes!

Also, that lack of a lock on for melee is damn annoying. Otherwise, top draw. Although is not the happiest of worlds to immerse yourself in - so I'm looking forward to some upbeat nonsense in San Andreas!

Now, this is something that I debated starting a whole new thread about; the lack of happiness in games these days, especially this gen.

Tomb Raider
Watch Dogs
Destiny
The Last of Us
Infamous

None of these felt very joyous, which is why I *NEED* Just Cause 3!

Yeah definitely - can be a little depressing non? Last night, I'm stuck on a boss level for over an hour - it's a pretty freaky boss (bit like the bird from The Ring) and some fairly oppressive music and tense sounds effects. Man, apart from an hour of failure after failure to beat her. It was the most stressful hours worth of gaming I can recall.

How I long to cruise on the highways of San Andreas on a bike or parachute to the top of Mount Chilliad and mountain bike to the bottom.

Amen brother.

I love my PS4 very much, but am acutely aware that I haven't played any AAA games on it yet that are just crazy fun and not oppressive and/or downbeat.

Infamous 1 & 2 were "serious" but still felt like super-hero fun; 3 just felt all maudlin and whiny. That shit should be fuckin thrilling and smile-inducing.

I blame Christopher Nolan. Everything that cunt does has gotta be all serious and "grown up" and now everyone creative thinks that's the way to go.

Michael Bay should be the director to emulate when it comes to games ie dumb but full of splosions and that.

Its nearly that time! My working from home tomorrow is purely a coincidence.

Amazon had better pull through and deliver GTA5 tomorrow!

Apart from that, still plodding away on The Evil Within which is a largely cheerful experience. Had the weekend off gaming, and with GTA about to happen I expect the The Evil Within case is going to gather dust. I will finish it though - far too OCD not to!

Man... GTAV feels like a completely different game in first person. Really nice. Gotta say though that I don't think it is quite as graphically impressive as Web sites have been making out. Don't get me wrong., it looks superb. But there are some slight frame rate issues on occasion and some aliasing oddities. But just know this is going to consume hours and hours of my time all over again.

I'm up to chapter 9 in the Evil Within now and although I'm really enjoying it, that fucking arsehole who can kill you with one hit keeps randomly showing up now and it's really pissing me off.

Ah, the Mansion? Yeah you have to play tag until he disappears. But what is annoying is the mid level boss in Chapter 10. She is a bitch to take down! You may breeze it, but I am really struggling.

I've watched a few videos of GTA now and comfortable that I can skip it.

It looks better, but I don't think it looks amazing and the 1st person view is a nice addition but not enough to warrant paying full price to play it through again.

I can't even get the bloody thing to download. Been crapping out on me all afternoon. Arrah.

I hear what your saying Blakey, but I'm going to persevere with Online. Initial hiccups first time round led to me bypassibg it. Plus I think I might try the main story missions again! There are worse games to replay - and not much else floating my gaming boat.
