Test Drive Unlimited (360)

Excellent racer and I dont even play it online. Love being able to cruise round a huge beautifully mapped location, exploring new routes and idulging in races and challenges when I want to. Excellent engine notes too.
I would like to see this series continue with even larger geography, more traffic and physics and more lifestyle options. Flat, repetitive lap racing=gay.

Silent Hill 2

Playing this on the PS3 after finding it at the bottom of a drawer and it looks ace! Did it really look this good and crisp all those years ago on Sonys 2nd box? Still an unnerving treat.

GOD OF WAR II

Talk about making the PS2 go out with a bang. not sure how far in I am, give it abar 5 hours worth and that was just yesterday!

absolute treat, the graphics for the PS2 are quality, the music is possibly better than the 1st games which is a ridiculous achievement, and the loading times are nothing but superb!.

As I probably said about the 1st game this is a mixture of some of the best games made:

Tomb Raider
Soul Reaver
Devil May Cry
Prince of Persia (even more so in this one)

Thing thats shocking is, this is better than anything I've played on the 360 to date..... Microsoft can take their time fixing my 360 :ph43r:

On the same note I have been playing Spiderman 3 on the 360 - its bloody good. Possibly the best interpration of a comic book hero in a video game yet. The powers all work brilliantly and thep use of them quick time things really help push the game along

I've just started playing the PS3 version of Spidey 3 and it is one of the most messed up games I've played in a long time. The fiddly controls which require precise timings but sometimes don't respond for a second or two after you press them (and sometimes not at all), the wild camera and the PS2-standard graphics are bad enough, but the game crashed twice within the space of an hour: the first time was because I kicked an enemy and he went through a wall and got stuck on the other side so I couldn't progress because I had to kill him so that the door to the next room would open. The second time was when I jumped off a building and ended up under the road, whereupon all the graphics turned into wireframe and the whole thing locked up.

Oh, and some of the shorter cutscenes are unskippable so, if you fail, you have to listen to the same Peter Parker wisecracks over and over again until you want to put a joypad through the screen.

If I didn't like Spider Man so much, I'd have junked this by now. Maybe I should dig out my unplayed copy of Spiderman 2 on Xbox instead - by all accounts, it plays better than this and probably doesn't look any worse.

The Godfather (PS3)

Another gameflirt rental - I do seem to be playing a lot of movie licences lately.

Anyway, it's not that bad really. I haven't played any other version before so it was all new to me. Graphically, a bit poor for a PS3 title although the explosions look lovely and the characters are all pretty much spot on.

Nothing terrible new in the gameplay stakes and it can get a little repetitive but hardly the stinker I'd been lead to believe it was.

The Darkness

Loving this! :D

The tone and setting are right up my street and once you get over the quite fiddly controls it's great fun.

If I had a small gripe it'd be that as a player you can go just about any location in the game (as far as I can tell) and I got stuck in one place for a day just because I wasn't supposed to be there yet. Very little direction at times.

Otherwise top notch. Although I haven't played the 'otherworld' levels yet which are supposed to be a little disappointing.

Overlord

Cracking game, lots of fun and mayhem.
plenty of violence and tons of humor and the little minions are
awesome to watch when they nick anything for armour.. tops of containers, chefs hats, dead rats. its a good game and no where near as short as I thought it was.

9/10

Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PS3)

Well worth picking up if you own a PS3 and haven't played the original on the old Xbox.

The graphics are pretty enough and with super lush colouring. The shiny character models and their animations are the best bit of it and it runs at a smooth as silk blistering 60fps.

There are quite a few jaggies going on though and a little bit of last gen geometry here and there.
But its a great game and STILL has probably the finest, well tuned combat system to date that really demands learning and perseverance.

Not for gaming wimps and novices!!!

Final Fantasy XII

I'm only just under 5 hours into this, but i'm already loving what I've seen.

as previously stated you can see theres been a bit of inspiration from starwars, but its got the feel of final fantasy even with the combat system being majorly overhauled. The Music is also top-notch, sounds very old school-ish, reminding me of the early Final Fantasy's and Zelda on Snes.

no more random battles.... but there is a awful lot of loading to do between areas.

The cut scenes are gorgeous - what we've all come to expect from Final Fantasy Games.

further update to follow after a few mores hours.

Well sold mine on already

It does look nice but found it very boring - the jumping felt too loose and spent most of my time slipping or jumping back to where I had just spent 10 minutes coming from

The camera also felt wrong - either to close to the action or at the wrong angle

I'm loving it.

Its bollox bastard hard but its just so finely tuned combat wise, almost like a proper one on one fighter but thrown into a third person adventure. It really feels like you are a ninja and with a bit of practise you can roll away, run along the walls and backflip out of trouble in no time.

As long as you block and then counter attack then you can win. Its a much better game with the sixaxis too which is always great for twitch gameplay.

The camera is a bit of a twat as far as exploration goes but its designed more for the constant close up combat so i forgive it. Platforming and exploring only comes in small manageable doses anyway.

I've only just done the airship section but for me its one of those rare games where it's actually fun just to die, reload and try and kick ass once again but better.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is my biggest hope to see at E3 this year. Sigma is almost a good enough reason for me to buy a PS3. NG2 exclusive to PS3 would certainly break me.

That first game was probably the most rewarding game I have ever played - just the fact that the regular enemies can kill you so you have to get better at the game to progress.

I remember that there was one section that I came to where there are these double hard military dudes - run at them and they spray you with machine gun fire, block that and they lob grenades at you, and if you do happen to get up close to them and they stab you with their bayonet. It seemed like they have no weakness, but after a few tries at getting through that section they became dog meat, and the next section on now seemed like the hardest thing ever.

Yep, it was you going on about it that made me try it out on the Xbox 3 years back Jocky. I never actually finished it before I got rid of the console and I struggled with the enormous controller but it was a great game and I always went back to it every now and then.

Ninja Gaiden is one of the most hardcore games made in a good few years!

I completed it on Normal and I can say it was a struggle... definately not for the average joe schmo :ph43r:
