Had so much on the go its been taking the piss, although Drakes Fortune has completely taken over the last couple of days. And I still need to get Mass Effect for my Crimbo holiday gaming! Fifa 08 (PS3) The more I play this the more brilliant I think it is. So many details, so many options and a great simulation engine now. Move over Pro Evo you have dropped the ball my son.... Warhawk Still the best online experience I have ever had. Pure popcorn arcade fun. Dip in, dip out goodness. Cant wait for the DROPSHIP expansion pack. Oh mamma, please stop those bullies teaming up on me..... Bladestorm (360) Not three bad. Better than Dynasty Warriors, no button mashing and some tactics involved but needs more polishing in all areas for any sequel. Strangely addictive though once you get the hang of it. Lair Yep its pretty bad. Controls are actually decent in normal flight but are clunky and crap during hectic or close combat moments. Occasionally dazzles with visuals but is just too brown and too boring mission wise to be any good. A shame. Brain Training 2 (DS) Switched this on for the first time in a month and Dr Kawashima ripped me a new arsehole, so I thought I better shape up. I prefer it to the first one actually, mainly cos they got rid of that godawful and pointless reading section. Plus I dont get ripped off at shops anymore cos I have learned to get change from a fiver..... |

I'm hoping to be playing CoD4 and Crysis over Chrimbo, but lately the only new release I've had is Kane & Lynch - and I must say, I'm a far bigger fan than most, especially some of the reviewers for the major sites. It looks to me like the PC version is the superior. The graphics are clean and whilst neither a massive leap up from Blood Money nor exactly cutting edge, do occasionally genuinely impress - the strobe effects in Club Mizuki, Kane's superb model, as well as heat haze, rain and so on. The plot is surprisingly multi-layered and subtle - there's a classic use of a McGuffin, and it's one of the few games where characters actually lie to each other on a regular basis. Kane's not even beyond lying to himself as well, of course. The dialogue and voice acting are superb, definitely amongst the best in a game. Kane and Lynch themselves are genuinely two of the most fundamentally sick, remorseless and brutal people ever depicted in a game, and the atmosphere of Heat-esque shootouts, chases and heists more than make up for the game's failings for me. Then again, I am glad it only cost me £18. |

Resistance (Online) And it's pretty damn good - 32 players and full headset support and zero lag. Impressed. Debating getting Warhawk now, but read from (old) reviews that spawn-camping is a big issue - this'd be a game-breaker for me - anyone play it other than 4thie? EDIT: Although one thing annoys me with Resistance (and any other customisable FPS online), and that's the stupid fucktards who set up games with pathetic parameters like one hit kills + rocket launchers + 200 x damage modifiers etc. etc. Wow: corking fun getting killed by even being on the same fucking MAP cos the parameters are so fuckerd....cocks. Just do standard games FFS!! |

I've got it but haven't had a chance to try it yet, although I quite enjoyed the beta once I got into it. If you fancy a game of that, Motorstorm or Resistance (haven't tried any of them online due to lack of PS3 friends
) over the festive period, give me a shout.

I will do - I tried Motorstorm online, but the general shittiness of the menus/lobbies and nasty loading times just made it misery. Might get Warhawk, but doubt it - dunno if £19.99's worth it for summink that's just totally online - how hard would it be to include bots for practising? Especially seeing as it was already partly done in single player form. |

Many games are made or broken by nob-wits, if a game caters for such stuff then randoms can be enjoyable, but otherwise yeah stick to people you know. Warhawk is great with mates, but spawn camping in randoms isnt so good. The biggest thing i think is getting a team that know how to play, preferably as a team but individual skill too. Note you dont have to be super-skilled, just when to attack/defend/capture bases. Motorstorm is fun in bursts, but it helps if everyone is similar skilled and/or you turn on the extra-boost for those falling behind. Resistance is great, but its been out so long now you get hammered by the really good people. And yes i always check for those 1-shot-kill games, they're invariably setup by rank-whores. I actually think ranked games are one of the better options for Resistance, because you can make parties you'll play on the same side as mates, and there's no funny options/trickery and people dont quit as much. The only real problem is LARK-whores, and an option to turn off the explosive weapons would make ranked games perfect IMO. If anyone does want a bumble-about online then send me a message too; i've got: Resistance Motorstorm Armored Core 4 The Darkness (never played it online) Eye of Judgement Warhawk Splinter Cell: Double Agent (still in wrapper, got delivered today from Play's sale) 360-wise i'd be up for some Team Fortress 2 or Gears of War still. |

Call Of Duty 4 What an excellent game, it had me gripped from the sinking ship escape to the hostage rescue. My favourite has to be the sniper mission, crawling in amongst all the soldiers and vehicles. Infinity Ward have taken what was good(and the annoying grenades) about COD2 and then improved on it in every way, the single player game is just the right length and the atmosphere is outstanding. Hopefully they will only make any future COD games in-house, instead of us ending up with another COD3. |

With quite a bit of travelling recently I've gone a bit DS crazy, admittedly these are all imports, but I've had a quick look around and the UK prices for DS games are starting to come down to reasonable levels if you preorder these. Geometry Wars Galaxies £16 from Tesco Jersey If you liked retro evolved, but weren't quite good enough to start scoring in the millions (like me) then this presents an excellent challenge. In short, it's Geometry Wars, with challenges - pass one of the three medal scores on each level to progress. Different shaped arenas, different waves of enemies, and it controls really well on the DS. 4/5 Picross DS £13 from Gamestation Surprise of the bunch - I only tried this on a tip from a friend, and it's excellent. Looking at the price and the time I've put into it, good value too. It's a bit like Sudoku, but a little more interesting. Good one to get for loved ones that have got bored with Dr Kawashima's antics. 4/5 Contra 4 (not sure on price) Fucking nails shooter. Through repetition and bloody mindedness I can now get off the first level without losing a life. But the second level completely destroys me. Still, I loved Contra 3 (aka Super Probotector Alien Wars on the SNES), so I'm keeping going, but frankly if this is released at full RRP of £29.99 then it would be hard to justify unless you're a Contra fan. 3/5 Final Fantasy XII - Revenant Wings £25 from various places Brilliant psuedo tactics/rpg type thing. Love it. It's a bit like Lost Magic, but without the stupid spell casting, and not anywhere near as hard. One of the few DS games worth the full DS RRP. 5/5 |

Super Mario Galaxy. Mario Party 8. Wii Sports. Wii Play. Guess what I got for Christmas? Need to get a component cable - yet again the composite is shockingly horrible. Whilst I'm on a Wii love-in, you NEED to check this out: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=673645 |

Component ain't much better on an HD TV! I got Super Mario Galaxy as well, but I'm still finishing Paper Mario, so I won't get to it for a bit. But if I could only keep one console, it would be the Wii at the moment - it's getting all my gaming time. |

That guy Juz linked to has done some impressive stuff in the past with the Wiimote. I think the possibilities game-wise are amazing with the sense of depth that that video demonstrates. Been playing.....please don't laugh..............deep breath.........Rail Simulator (PC). Yes yes, I'm a sad bastard. But it's great! That plus some Dirt, finished Uncharted and also been playing FFXII:Revenant Wings on the DS. Oh and some FlightsimX on the PC. What I really want is RockBand but the 360 one is region locked and I'd rather that one that the PS3 one. Plus tales of woe regarding the build quality have put me off Despite the fact it can be imported for £99.99. So tempting. |

Dont know what your looking at but component is much better than the other outputs from our Wii Not really bothered with the Wii myself but got Lucy 3 games for Xmas inclusing Mario V Sonic and that looks stunning - ok its not high def but the visual quality of it was up there with many 360 games Gave in and had few goes - quite fun |

Yeah, I have to say that it looks roughly 62 times better on component too - Mario Galaxy especially looks loverrly. Had a fucking NIGHTMARE getting the component AND sound through the amp - at one point the sound was screeching like a banshee - musta had a loose connection somewhere - sorted in the end. |
