Team Fortress 2

Rediscovered the joys of the Pyro class. I love Team Fortress 2. That is all.

Ha ha, i've got 10 times as much game time as a Pyro than any other class - glad someone else loves it! In fact i only ever pick another class when theres a tactical need which no-one is fullfilling (solider/demo to hit a remote-gun, medic to uber for a rush etc).

I've been playing Earth Defence Force 2017, due to LIVE problems, but then missed the fly-girl from Chikyū Bōeigun 2, so dusted off the PS2 and oh-my-deities (ignoring the graphics) is this game better. More variety in weapons, and hence better tactical options, two different character options, and the difficulty level seems tougher too. It guts me thinking about the watered-down 360 version, but still fun, and i hope it got decent sales just so we get a better sequel.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is visually stunning, at times you'll think it's video they're feeding you, but still suffers from the GT issues; sense of speed (The PS3 Burnout demo feels so much faster), AI (which is a bit better), and "drama". I have only unlocked a few C class vehicles, but i do think i'm more a TOCA / Motorstorm / push-n-shove racer. I do like the feeling of control of the cars, you get tire squeal and can adjust throttle/steering so well to push your car to that spin-limit, compared to some games where its "am i going to fast? oh brake-brake, shit <spin>". Oh this is the disc version too, but i assume the download is the same.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent - i just cant get into it. Feels really trial and error, and AI is either extra dumb or amazingly aware, little inbetween.

Wipeout Pulse - excellent, however one cant help but feel its lost its impact, as its sort of a Pure upgrade pack. Need to put more time in, but just too busy at the mo, and Wipeout HD will probably be out before i finish it, which i have high hopes for.

Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions - still playing... enjoyable, but think my characters are overpowered compared to the difficulty at the mo, and i'm not using any special characters (just got the lightning god and sky pirate dudes).

Elite Beat Agents (DS)

After being deeply entrenched in the non-gaming wilderness for the last few months, and on the verge of evicting my 360, the DS has provided me with some rare gaming joy recently. Elite Beat Agents is one of the most addictive games i've played in many moons. Not generally a fan of rhythm-based games but this one is pretty original IMO and shows how simple and fun gaming can be. The songs that are used may be the worst of what bubblegum pop has to offer but that becomes almost irrelevant as the real attraction of amounting larger and larger combos takes over.

Not that my gaming opinion is respected in any sense :( but I would definitely recommend this lil' beauty.

Still playing COD4 online, some 15 hours later I've achieved the rank of Lieutenant.

I think I'm in love with this game, and can't think of another multiplayer title I've committed to so heavily.

The hook for me is the challenges based on mastering the different classes. I really like the way in which you're alerted to XP achievements mid-game and how weapon upgrades can serious improve or hamper your performance.

Hate the damn helicopters though (unless of course I ordered in the strike).

Have been trying to put some time into Half Life 2 when opportunity allows. I gave up on the original PC version quite early on because I wasn't really enjoying playing it at my desk, it didn't run particularly well on my PC and the whole thing seemed kind of "meh"!

So, how have I fared with the console version? Well, while I wouldn't say that I don't like it, I'm still not really feeling that it's anything particularly special either. So far, it just seems to be trudging through tunnels to find a person, listen to their dialogue and then get told to carry on to meet up with someone else - there's not much of a story to spur you on. Some of the puzzles have been quite interesting, I'll grant you. I've just got to the bit where missiles land and the face hugger aliens appear for the first time (which is further than I got with the PC version), so I hope it will pick up a bit now.

you've got a fair way to go mate, and although the vehicle sections are a bit rubbish there are some really clever but subtle puzzles. and you'll enjoy Ravenholm ;)

I played HL2 through to completion on the PC.

Playing the PS3 version now. (Only Half Life 2 at the moment, hoping on a patch for episode 1 & 2 before I even tackle those....)

And I'm surprised how dated the game feels now.

The environments seem a lot boxier and flatter after playing a game like Assassins Creed or Drakes Fortune. And oh the loading times...

Only slightly further than you at the moment Zai, but theres lots more ahead.

Another shocker on the PS3 version is the audio is only stereo! That is shit. Turn around while people are speaking and you need the subtitles on.

Yeah, but do that whole section with the Grav gun only and get a cool achievement!

Back on Oblivion for me. More specifically, the Shivering Isles expansion. I figured it costs me around £20 so I should have a dabble and see what it's like. It'sssssss, ok-ish. I don't really like the style of the environment though. And it just doesn't seem as "busy" as the regular game. No guards patrolling. No citizens wandering from town to town.

Still, it is a chance to while away the hours exploring, so it suits me just fine at the moment.

Anyone playing Eye of Judgement? I think i saw Zaichik post on the AVForums asking about cards or something, and wondered if anyone was interested in actually playing, like vs humans? As the kiddies online seem to be right (silent) nobwits with every ultra-rare card published in one deck...

I rejoined the blotherhood of wii at the weekend so have been catching up on Mario Galaxy and Metroid Corruption.

I've been reading lots of positive comments about Zak and Wiki but worry it'll annoy the hell out of me.

Just how light are the puzzles? Are we talking a Portal-style learning curve or Lucas-arts style brainscratching.

I think I must have been away the day they were handing out logic

Sega Rally - PS3

Now I've actually got half decent at it I'm enjoying it.

Pure out and out arcade racing.

Yes it feels like sliding a rectangular bar of soap sliding round a track but the adrenaline in doing so is excellent.

Let's hope when the Dualshock 3 is released over here they patch it for rumble support.

Had a bit of whoop-ass online racing today and someone ate my dust. Much better feeling than my initial online foray... seeing my opponents disappear round first corner was the last I saw of em.

If you need a confidence boost, just invite me along for a game of anything!
