I have just been playing the demo of this clever mix of Amplitude and Klax, which can be played using any music on your computer, so if you want a relaxing game you can pick a slow song or something faster for a challenge. There are then leader boards for every song you play with.
The demo is limited to 4 tries but give a good idea of the game.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympics

I can't make up my mind about this one. On the one hand, it's a lot of fun and certainly attracts the non-gamers (Mrs Z, Zai Jnr and mother in law all gathered round to watch me kill myself trying to play it!). Graphically, it looks great.

On the other hand, I'm just not up to games like this any more (not sure I ever was), which probably means I'll never see the locked events. The controls on some of the events (e.g the Fencing and table tennis) are a bit crap.

<_< I've said before, i'll buy a Wii when they do a proper free-form motion-controlled sword fighting game, not make X specific movement to do pre-programmed Y sword attack - so i take it the fencing dosent do this?

Does it do Epee and Sabre or just foils? And have the got the correct hit locations and scoring? (ie: double hits in Epee but not the others) I could put up with slightly crap controls if they got most of Olympic-style fencing correct, and it might translate well as you could imagine the piste as your TV, cutting off lateral movement compared to doing classical or historic fencing.

I dont suppose there's been word on the upcoming Wii Star Wars game? Lightsabres would be cool too.

Is that the Wii or DS version? On the DS the fencing is shit - it's 'Epee', and the first to poke the other person 10 times wins, but the controls are:

Move left and right using d-pad
Double tap either direction to dash slightly
Squiggle towards opponent on touch screen to strike
Squiggle away from opponent to 'feint'
Squiggle upwards to parry.

I dunno what the 'feint' is supposed to do... certainly doesn't seem to put any of my opponents off.

Only got to try a running event, shooting and javelin before I had to give it back. It was fun in a kind of track and field limited way, but that was about it.

I'm playing the Wii version. So far, I can only play "epee", but the fact that you have to select that separately suggests that there are others to unlock. The controls are:

Use the stick on the nunchuk to move left and right (very slowly - it's like Yie Ar Kung Fu!)
Double tap to dash (not much different)
Swing Wii remote to lunge (only ever seems to hit their legs)
"A" to parry
"B" to feint.

There's no subtlety, no finesse and no speed. It seems to be pure luck as to whether you can lunge and strike without getting hit yourself.

looks like a good $9.99, except i load up a song and about 30 secs into the track (both times) my computer just restarts...bizarre.

do you think it's the game, or steam? never happened before...

Stranglehold (360) - well named cos it'd take one to make me keep playing this for more than 15 mins at a time. John Woo movies manage to be exciting, violent, balletic, funny and often downright silly - in a good way. Stranglehold is tedious, clunky, repetitititititititive, badly flawed in terms of everything from controls to the difficulty setting and downright nasty in places. Hugely disappointing unless you just like seeing lots of shit fly about.

Burnout Paradise (360) - Got me Elite licence this week but still have loads of online challenges to do. A top game, lots of fun but something was definitely missing - other than the crash mode.

Turok (360) - Just started it but like 4thy I'm pleasantly surprised. The dinos are superbly done, with only the biggest showing any signs of jerkiness when they turn quickly. The lightning-fast Komodo dragon-type things are the scariest creatures I've come across in game in ages! Despite the feeling that the writers have watched Aliens once too often and the weapons nearly all feel like they have had their damage quotient taken down a notch or two too far by some fiddle-faddling game tweeker, there are some cool ones in there, but no Cerebral Bore™ so far.
Subtitles are available on Teletext page 888

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Finally came through from Tesco online, and I'm enjoying it. Not immensely, but enjoying it nonetheless.

Timeshift

Another Tesco job - not bad, but nothing spectacleeyar.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition

Final game from Tescos online this week and it's "meh" to the max. Played and finished it on the Gamepube, but this somehow looks worse, and controls really REALLY badly. The problem is that you aim (to shoot) with the Wiimote, but the nunchuks actually control the movement, resulting in you aiming one place while pointing elsewhere and the camera doesn't follow your aim if you get my drift. Did I mention that it looks as rough as arseholes?

I got it at the weekend on PS3 but have so far only put in about 2 hours on the single player campaign mode.

Initial thoughts:

- Looks lovely

- Almost exactly the same style of characters and locations as Gears of War

- Very sluggish controls that need serious tweaking in the options menu

- Very difficult to hit enemies when on the run (especially if you're used to the perfect controls of COD4)

Can't say much more than this. I imagine it comes into its own in multiplayer so will report back when I've put in a few more hours.

Ooh, I can now contribute to this thread:

Final Fantasy III (DS) - It's like ff, BUT TINY. Still getting used to playing on a diddy screen, gives me the warm fuzzies with the random battles. Could do with some kind of in-game help as its sometimes not obvious what a particular job entails, for example.

Townsmen 4 (Mobile phone) I'm amazed at the complexity of the game considering the £3 price tag and the fact its a mere mobile game. Like a mini Settlers.

Gotta disagree! Thought this version was brilliant! Okay it's looking somewhat tired - but graphics whoring aside it's still a top game. I thought the Wiimote/Nunchuck combination worked very well. And the additional content is actually good - i.e. the Ada Mission etc.

I loved it, the story, atmos and most importantly game play.

Juz, taking into account opinions etc ... you're still wrong :P

Well I have the PC version so I can't comment on the controls but I have to disagree with the locations/character designs. Although as you're playing the campaign you might not've got far enough to see the Necris/Space locations yet.

Just give it time! (although as it is using the same engine AND made by the same guys I guess there will always be similarities).

I've been playing it quite a bit over the weekend. Had a mental half hour match with 32 people in a small arena and racked up 127 kills mainly with the impact hammer... mwuhahahahaha
