Been playing Space Invaders Extreme on the DS and it's bloody brilliant! They have really done a great job bringing this game bang up to date. Nice special effects going on in the background. Combos result in various power-ups. There are boss fights, bonus stages. It even has wi-fi vs matches. I have sat playing in the middle of the night and have always found someone on wi-fi to play against. Anyone with a DS and a fondness for shooters really needs to give this a try. It's amazing. |

Diner Dash (DS) I am addicted to this. Six odd tables, a constant deluge of customers to seat, feed and get rid of and umpteen tasks to juggle at the same time. Like the very best games of yesteryear. Simple, frustrating with a just one more go feel. Shame there is no 'flob into food and punch customer in face' option though...... |

Can't say I'm particularly enjoying Ravenholm (although I do recognise that it's a great bit of level design), but I think that's because I'm trying to get the achievement for only using the gravity gun, which means I'm getting killed lots. Talking of which, I'm at the bit where Father Grigorii runs off to send me the mine cart and I have to defend myself against a load of super zombies while I wait. There aren't any objects I can fling at them and after a while there are just too many of them to dodge. How can I beat this bit without resorting to using a different weapon? |

I got that achievement; from memory i kept a circular sawblade for a lot of it, then grabbed a concrete block. Just make sure you dont lose a weapon, as you cant rely on finding stuff. I dont remember the minecart bit, where about is this? In general a lot of running away to doorways / tops of ladders / AI-confusing places, and fling your block at them over and over did it for me. It wasnt really nut-crushingly hard, just more time-consuming than if one used guns, and a bit of trial and error finding the right place to fight certain waves. |

is this on the roof ? if so drop back down to the lower levels - find a room with one (or just two) entries - and a saw blade or block - found it much easier after this |

Finally got round to purchasing a Wii. Zelda: Twilight Princess I've put in 11 hours, just finished the Death Mountain dungeon and this has got to be one of the most enjoyable 11 hours of gaming I have put in, in recent years... It has a very similar feel to Link To The Past i think with going into the Twilight being similar to the transformation to a Rabbit bit on top of the mountain... which I didnt particularly like in THAT game but the Wolf bits on this have a similar feel and have been done excellently in my opinion. The Boss Battles and Mini Bosses to aqquire new weapons are great, they're not particularly that difficult (at the moment) but are very entertaining and enjoyable. Tiger Woods 2008 When playing on Custom settings (basically Expert but with a few extras switched on) this is absolutely amazing. 3 of us had round of golf the other day just under 3 hours long, this is by far the best golfing experience I've had on a game. I'm a bit gutted that its taken me so long to bite the bullet and get one of these because the enjoyment I've had on this for the short amount of time I've had it in comparison to the 360 is shocking. Looking forward to playing a few other games on this. My hat goes off to nintendo

Just reviewed Lineage II: The Chaotic Throne: The Kamael: The First Throne This was plain bottled boredom. A grind treadmill dressed up with some silly graphical garb and the most derivative of art styles I've seen in ages. Also, it's old. Avoid it, I've since dumped my review copy in the bin. Audiosurf An average puzzle game, a trippy psychadelic Rez-a-like and racetracks generated from whatever piece of music you plug into it. Really addictive this, and for the tiny asking price it's well worth the purchase. Number one on Steam too. Mass Effect Still playing this at the weekends. I'm reluctant to pick it up when I get home from work as it's one mother of a time sink, but I'm enjoying it even if it does have an appaling interface. Team Fortress 2 The more I play it the more I love it. I've finally gotten the hang of playing as a Spy, even if it's bloody hard, and it's hilarious. This is on PC mind, the console version just doesn't feel right. |

Turok (360) - Still good-ish solo (getting frustratingly tough on 'Inhuman' like CoD4 did on 'Veteran'), but disappointing multiplayer experiences so far, it seems to be populated by gimps who hide, and then stab me in the back as I blunder by. Frontlines: Fuel of War (360) - Might be my surprise hit of the year. Solo it's more fun than Halo 3's campaign - the explosions are amazing to see and the vehicles great fun to use. It has a rockin' multiplayer game with massive maps that make Battlefield 2's look pokey (I was on a map with 28 players yesterday - you can even fly jets). Really needed a co-op mode though, and it seems a very odd omission. Beautiful Katamari (360) - Awful, awful game. Tedious, repetitive gameplay, glitchy, freakish graphics, annoying camera & controls, and the most annoying sound, story and characters I've come across in a while. If you like Japanese games, apparently it's very "stylish". If you don't, it's like a bad trip in the company of Jamie Oliver and Johnny Vegas Army of Two (360) - Not sure about this yet. Early impressions are that it's a good looking but basic shooter, with lots of bits of other games thrown into the mix. The upgrade system, co-op and Vs. modes are sure to make it popular though. Blacksite: Area 51 (PS3) - Omigod this is even glitchier than the 360 version. Really, really hope I don't have to play through this again. sigh |

Let me know the verdict on this, I was thinking about picking it up but the review buzz is that it's a bit lacklustre. |

I just finished it. Yeah it's kinda short  two evenings play for the singleplayer campaign, but it's quite good fun. Other main issues - the money/upgrade system isnt very user-friendly, you cant easily see what gun you buy will end up compared to others, so its a bit hit and miss if you make the right buy for what you want. Camera is a bit zoomed in, so the character models obscure the screen a bit, otherwise go more over-the-shoulder to again resolve. Loading times are noticeable, disappointing after playing games where you really dont notice them. Some infinite-respawn points, but not super-annoying. Good bits are its quite good as a cover shooter, definitely better level design than Gears of War which was generally limited in the path and cover you had. The aggro system works well for the flow of offense and defence. Mostly its just solid, but there are times when its the best of the genre, so feels like it needed more resources and cooking time. Worth a rent, if only to try out the new concepts, but a buy will depend on how many mates you have to play with and the longevity of online. |

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. : Shadow Of Chernobyl (with Faiakes 2.4 mod) I finished the main story line of this today and what a brilliant game it is. Yes it does have some flaws, most notably crashes, but these can be overlooked as the rest is so good. Firstly the graphics are outstanding and the detail is amazing, especially as I can now run it on full settings You really feel you are in a living world thanks to the "A life" system, the other NPC's do not hang around waiting for you, they get on with hunting and fighting for there own needs. The atmosphere is always quite tense and often very spooky as well. The story starts out with the not very original "memory loss", but soon becomes interesting right up to the abrupt end, that is very Eastern European in style. I am now going to load up my last safe before the end and go and finish some more of the side quests. It is, Imperial Creed described it "Flawed, but still genius", I am really looking forward to Clear Sky now. |

It's a classic alright, I've never played a game that generated such a sense of place before. It also scared the shite out of me on numerous occasions... What's that mod you said you were using Aru? |
