Ok, I'll keep a better eye out when I try again. In Z's footsteps I made a map of where I keep getting stuck, minus the 3d rendering and fancy-pants colours:

I alwys keep going for the ladder in the middle and get screwed. I think with more patience I'll get through this...

I took out as many people as I could with the rifle from the roof (got about 4 others plus the 3 on the cranes)

Then went via the back of two of the huts and used a few grenades - seemed to draw a few people to me and used the cover system to get them

Then (as with EVERY mission of its type up til then) I just went Rambo on there arses and ran around from cover to cover (although not using the cover system) and auto tagetting

Completed this (as every other mission of this type) on first go

Think as soon as you start to get clever so does the game - quick and easy seems to be the best strategy

Mass Effect(PC)

I had not played the console version, but I am really enjoying this so far.
They seem to have taken what was good about KOTOR and tweaked it to make it even better, I also prefer that it is not a Star Wars game, as it makes the world it is set in a whole new experience with no baggage attached.
The conversion to PC controls seems to have worked really well, with the addition of hotkeys for weapons and abilities and short cuts to individual submenus, being very welcome. It is just a shame they had to handicap the aiming to compensate for the accuracy of the mouse.

So far so good.

It'll be a while before I play that. I still haven't finished MGS and want to play the other two before I tackle the finale.

Still struggling with Grid (strange that the 8/10 GamesTM review does not seem to mention the handling) but I am LOVING Ninja Gaiden II (even if am playing on easiest setting)

MGS4

Lots of people on GC reported that their MGS4 turned up early - well mine hasn't turned up even on release day. I'm not too bothered (see above), although I was planning to go online tonight, but it is just sod's law!

MGS4

Its pretty good :D

I'm only an hour in, but it's enough to give me a really good vibe about this game.

I'll have a better impressions after the weekend but the big ticks in the box so far go to:

- The awesome dolby digital sound

- The cut scenes which are so well done they're not boring

- The worn-torn environment

- An excellent night-vision mode

and finally (and slight spoileroo)

A big WTF for:

- The bizarre interview with David Hayter at the start. What was that all about?

Vaguely toying with the idea of MGS4 - will probably rent it in a coupla years!

Liked MGS, found the second one coma-inducing, and never even saw the 3rd.

If I had a PS3 I'd avoid it like the plauge. The most boring series in history ... mahoosive cut scenes that can't be skipped, give me a break!

And by all accounts this one has the longest cut scenes in the series ... come on where is the gaming in hours and hours of cut scenes?

And if I may say so, what a charming smashing blouse you've got on

Yeah, that's pretty much the entire reason I'm not fussed about playing - doesn't satisfy my gaming needs.

The cutscenes are apparently pausable and skippable in MGS4. Still not much help if you need to go out/for dinner/to bed but don't want to miss any of the story.

For those interested in such things, MGS4 runs in 1080P (contrary to what it says on the box) and has 7.1 surround sound.

Oh and yes, the cut-scenes are both pausable and skippable. They also have a degree of interactivity :)

Apparently they are so long you can out/for dinner/to bed without missing any of the story. ;)

Actually I loved the first two. Never quite got into the third.

But love the level of detail in the previous versions.

Funny that, me too. Supposedly it got better the further you got in, but I was a bit bored by the time I was fighting the guy made of bees.
