Been playing MGS4 and can't muster up the hardon that most people seem to have for it.

Stupidly small areas that mean even though the game does an install at the beginning of each act, it still has god knows how many loading screens - why????

The bosses were universally boring and too easy. I'm normally shit at boss fights but these were a cakewalk, never struggled and didn't use any health packs at all (I played the difficulty one down from the hardest - can't recall what it's named)

Longgggg cutscenes that don't actually tell that much story. If you think about what a film can cram into around an hour and a half it's a joke really.

Snakes voice - haha - some bloke who is obviously trying to sound like an old man. As convincing as Les Dennis doing Mavis Riley.

The animation is shit. Just sit and watch snake run when half crouched - it looks ridiculous! Cutscenes are beautifully animated, then robot snake looms into life as it switches back to in-game.

Having said all that, it was enjoyable to play just to see how it all panned out. And it will be quite a while I think, before we see anything quite as "epic". The 8/10's it's been getting seem fair if maybe a tad generous. After all, as a video game it lacked an awful lot. You can't excuse it that just because it's a fans wet dream come true.

Buzz Quiz - PS3

This is my first buzz game, so I appreciate the novelty factor may be high, but I think this is fabulous.

Great presentation, the voiceovers really work and played with 4 on the wireless buzzers, it's all sorts of fun.

What really takes this up a level though is the online play which so far has been seamless. Being able to upload your own quiz and play other people's quizzes is a great idea which should see this game's lifespan increase.

Points off however for holding back 1500 questions which are now downloadable from the PS Store at a cost of £10.49....

I got to beta test Buzz TV and I think it's a great evolution of the concept too. (Try out my Doctor Who quiz btw). I now have the full version and I quite often find myself nipping on to have a go at someone's quiz when I have a spare ten minutes. The only real disappointment is the lack of voice chat on the sofa vs sofa battles.

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution

Must stop playing t and get review done. I love it. In the abscence of my other half and my main AV room having been hijacked I am playing it whilst tucked away in bed on a spare 360 (well its the 360 of the bugger who has hijacked my main system)

I suppose it possible is Civ Lite - but not really that many will notice and def not that anyone will care. It looks great it plays the same as ever and easily takes your time in the same way as all the others have

Battlefield: Bad Company

Still not sure about this.

In single player, once you get past the "blowing up buildings" gimmick then its a rather poor game.

The AI is terrible - your team mates fire there weapons convincingly enough but never to any effect. Driving a vehicle into the middle of an enemy base sees the gunner fire rounds off like no tomorrow but he never seems to hit anyone. Also the enemy AI is even worse as they are far too good and far to aware of you. Even on normal difficulty you can not sneak up on anyone as they always know you are there and shoot at you. Two sections have highlighted this to me (1) An enemy guard tower had us pinned down so I decided to approach from a different direction and take him out, as I got into position his aim switched to me instantly (before I even took a shot) and started attacking me (made worse by fact that my team mates just watched (2) An enemy in a window again trying to pin us down - running to rear of building and up the stairs I aproached him from behind - just as I was about to take shot he turned and attacked me.

Also I HATE the health system. You have some magic self healing thing that you have to use as and when you want. Why the game could not go with the (now common) restore when in cover system is beyond me

Online the game has potential but is still plagued with problems. Spawn times take an age and many of the level up glitches from the previous titles see your team mates fuck off to cheat and leave you on your todd

I'm planning to get the DS version of this to play on the train. I understand that, apart from the graphics, it's essentially the same game.

Battlefield: Bad Company - Hmmm. I actually hated this at the start but it's really growing on me. I'd agree with everything Dunk said if it weren't for the fact that my squad have saved my ass on several occasions, and the magic health injector - that I initially thought was a fiddly, stupid waste of time - actually makes healthing yourself back up more of a hands-on thing than just ducking or running for cover, but I always liked the carryable medikit idea anyway.

I've found that playing BF:BC with one or two friends online is a lot more fun than just dipping into a big game alone, as a bit of communication can mean a good long run at staying alive, which always makes online shooters more fun. I played the PS3 version for several hours before getting my hands on our 360 promo and Mike & me really kicked some ass for a while, mainly because we were actually communicating while the opposition was clearly all just running around like headless chickens. :D

I think I'm quite a way in to the campaign now (like CoD4 and Frontlines it's fucking criminal that there's no co-op) and the missions get more fun - without spoiling anything, the I love the damage, the Hind level is great fun, the laser targeter is done really well and even brings back memories of my favourite CoD4 moments. Oh, and I've just done what I always wanted to do on a golf course. :applause:

Really ?

Mine do NOTHING

Im on the mission where you first go across the border and the one bloke runs off on his todd.

At the enemy base my squad just spend time running up and down the hill and never once shot an enemy soldier :( even when running past a couple of them. Also when you come to the snipers a short while later my only real option was just to run tree to tree (using the injector at each one) to the first sniper - kill him and take his weapon leaving my squad to make an impressive go of firing there weapons but do fuck all else

No I said something I wanted to do. Not one of your Borat-style Russian pastimes. [nanananana]

Really ?

Nah I was lying, I just like to contradict you. :P

I think they get better in more built-up areas, but as I reached the dockside they definitely picked a few off, and the RPG guy has certainly killed a few APCs along the way.

HAZE (PS3) - Oh dear. Stuttery frame rate, clipping, rubbish weapons, vehicle handling that reminds me of Tomb Raider 2's crappy Land Rover bit... But enough about its good bits - it's quite simply crap! :arse: How did this ever come from the same guys as Timesplitters 2? The co-op mode and the way it's been implemented is the only good thing about it, but why would you want to drag someone else along with you to play this tripe? To share the pain I guess. :(
PS3 exclusive this year? M$ must be laughing their arses off. <_<

Playing this as it was on my LoveFilm rental queue, and it is 100% in only one way: it's utter, utter average-ness.

Not good. All that hype, all that money for a PS2-looking shitfest with about one unique feature: the ability to play dead. Horrible cutscenes that go on for ages and go precisely nowhere.

So disappointing. Halo beater? LOL!!! Not even a Halo 1 beater.

And so there endeth the single point that Haze had to exist.

Oh, and the game just locked up on me - cheers!!

EDIT: Oh and please tell me why, after spending FUCK knows how long HAVING to install a huge swathe of data for this game onto the HDD I'm STILL waiting ages for a reload after I die (NB: death usually due to fuck-awful vehicle controls, or trial-and-error gameplay...not me being shit, honest).

Oh, and whilst we're on the subject of this fuckin install, why do textures STILL pop in? And why, when they do, are they PS2-level?

Shocking game.

And Team Fortress Classic back in 1999. Actually might have been in the original TF Quake mod before that.

Sorry, I'll put my anorak down.

Super Stardust HD (PS3)

The new trophy system on PS3 has really given this game a new lease of life for me. I'm now powering through each world desperately trying not to use bombs or boost!

I also love the custom soundtrack option for this game. I'd highly recommend blasting to Pendulum's 'Hold your Colour' album.
