Oh, and the game just locked up on me - cheers!!

Shocking game.

I've got some cracking screenshots of Haze self-destructing to accompany a review should one of us ever manage to produce one m8 ;)

Super Stardust HD (PS3)

The new trophy system on PS3 has really given this game a new lease of life for me. I'm now powering through each world desperately trying not to use bombs or boost!

I also love the custom soundtrack option for this game. I'd highly recommend blasting to Pendulum's 'Hold your Colour' album.

Yeah i've had this since day 1, but the trophies motivated me to give it another go. Quite enjoy it for mindless blasting compared to Riff: EDS, and i finally managed to get the last one last night :) Well except for the unavailable co-op trophy :(

Ninja Gaiden 2

I loved the first game, despite its issues, but I'm not so sure about this. I think I'm about half way through and the combat against regular enemies is pretty decent - there are plenty of enemies that will out right kill you if they pair up. The bosses have been uniformly disappointing though - in the previous game it was quite possible to beat most of the bosses without losing any life once you'd learned the attack patterns and had a bit of skill. NG2 bosses though have a lot of unavoidable attacks. I certainly get better at fighting them after a few goes, but it's still an exercise in frustration.

Ace Combat 6

Awesome. The missions are a bit more long winded this time around but they've given a nice set of varied missions and despite the cut scenes with an incredibly annoying protaganist (the woman anyhow) it has a decent enough storyline.

The aircraft all have different characteristics and strengths too so it actually feels like you're flying something different each time although the series never really suffered in this regard.

A couple of things annoy me however:
- Why is it almost essential to use the planes flying in your support and actually tell them to do something? (after scoring enough points) They're always there so why can't they actually do something?!

- The sheer amount of content that was held back for DLC is a joke. Even a more hardcore difficulty. It reminds you EVERY time you boot up too which just takes the piss to be frank.

But other than those points, the sheer amount of stuff going on is amazing and it's pretty fun to finally nail someone too after chasing them down!

Battlefield: Bad Company

Picked this up today. I have an unfortunate tendency to kill team mates by accident and being stuck on a bad team means that you really will suffer but I'm enjoying it on the whole!

Just unlocked the artillery for the support class mwuhahaha!

Battlefield: Bad Company (360) - I truly love this game's multiplayer in short bursts, and am now going back the campaign on 'hard' to find all the gold. Mwuhahahahaaaaaaarrghhxccchh [nanananana]

Okami (Wii) - Sheer graphical Jap weirdness with some really clever gameplay elements. Got fed up with all the Wiifiddling in the end and now I want to play it on the PS2 so I can find out how it plays with a normal joypad.

WALL-E (360) - Hmmm. Shockingly enough, the movie was a LOT better than the game. But that robot is dead cute, and very endearing. I've played worse platform adventures with much less originality that were supposed to be a lot better. Like Dreck's Boretime for instance.

CARS (360) - Yeah, I'm on a Disney/Pixar trip at the mo having been bribed by them to give WALL-E a good review score (that's a lie). Not a terrible game this, despite Lightning and the rest of the cars all handling like a GTA IV Trashmaster with blown-out front tyres thanks to a poorly implemented 'powerslide' mechanic. Why the heck couldn't they just let the cars slide when they should or be enduced with a tweak of the handbrake, instead of trying to ape Mario Kart's old feature? The shame of it is that Cars had all the ingredients all ready to use, and should have been an awesome race/explore/collect 'em up game for all ages, but wasn't.

Has anyone played both versions? I bought the PS2 one but never got round to playing it. Would it be worth upgrading? Or would it be more trouble than it's worth?

Not played the Wii version, i finished the PS2 one - i believe i gushed about it in one of Dunc's lists - presumably all they've done is use the Wii controller to do the brush strokes with? if so i'd have no desire to play it again.

I've just finished Professor Layton and the Curious Village on the DS.

I think this is the first game on the DS that I have actually bothered to play through the entire story, unlocked all the puzzles and completed the entire game (bar the downloadable puzzles). Aside form the annoying voice of the Prof's sidekick, this is a great distraction from the daily commute.

This is on my list of games to buy but it'll have to wait until I find out whether I'm going to lose my job in September and I can loosen the purse strings again.

Soul Calibur IV

There's nothing revolutionary, or dare I say evolutionary about this game. In fact, bar the pretty graphics it could easily be at home on the Dreamcast.

I think it's one of the best games I've played this year for sheer fun.

There's something really satisfying about the speed of the combat and the impact the weapons have. The Star Wars theme is a little gimmicky but playing as Darth (on the PS3 version) is a real joy, especially when you master his force moves. The Star wars level looks brilliant and you get the Dual of the Fates theme as the backdrop.

I suspect but can't confirm that Yoda will be playable at some point. I haven't even started on the create a character mode yet.

SCIV looks so good I'm tempted, and that's the first time in a long time a fighting game has done that (I guess I'm still in love with Taki's boobs.) It'd have to be the PS3 version for me as if Darth isn't unlockable on the 360 I'd feel gutted. And I'm sorry but the sight of Yoda twirling a lightsabre still makes me cringe - Jedi master or no, getting beaten by him would feel like I'd been bested by Kermit the frog.

According to OXM, Yoda is really annoying, both as an opponent (it's really hard to hit or grab him because he's so short) and as a playable character.

He's un-throwable, so expect him to be immensely popular (cheap) online

I was too tempted by SC4, i'll have to agree with Blakey, its really fun game. Its so easy to pick up and have a good time without learning 30 odd moves. Vader is great.

Im also playing Geometry Wars 2 which is so bloody addictive its unreal. More of you guys should join me n Jocky in the high score battle.

Pixel Junk Eden, really cool slower pased game. Really dig the music.

I also just built a lovely new PC so im enjoying Crysis at the moment, just an awesome game.
