It has charm but is riddled with issues, like you say; why cant i jump off any cliff i want, even if it means i plunge to my death? I've enjoyed what i've played to date, but is really a 7 or 8 out of 10 for being so flawed but with great (sometimes unrealised) ideas. |

After 78 hours (not including deaths and restarts), I've finally finished Lost Odyssey - the longest time by a mile that I've ever put into one game. I just loved it, and the ending, although cliched, was all that I wanted it to be. After all this time, I'm quite sad to have finished it. That said, the last disc was a bit of a disappointment after the epic events and well-crafted story strands of disc 3. Why? Because once you get to disc 4, a huge number of side-quests open up which take you out of the main story too much. You need to complete quite a lot of them, and level up, to stand any chance of beating the final bosses. Also, whereas the other discs have epic CGI cutscenes, most of the events on disc 4 are rendered through text based conversations (the closing cutscenes are fabulous, though). Still one of my favourite games ever but, if they'd only spread the side-quests more evenly and kept up the production values all the way through, it would have been even better.

Far Cry 2 (360) - meh this isn't Far Cry as I know it, maybe it grows on you. Saints Row 2 (360) - Congrats to Volition on producing a game just as buggy as the first one - it pops up/down like jack in the box, the frame rate drops to 2FPS, it has tearing too and even locks up solid like the first SR- and yet I can't stop playing it because it gives such a good immediate hit. I hate myself for liking it. Fallout 3 (360) - I give up, I don't get this game at all. 10/10 EuroKristan? Not even if I liked depressing solo RPGs that take ages to get going. It's not good enough technically and has exactly one trick up its radioactive, yet-another-way-of-doing-bullet-time sleeve. Mercs 2 (PS3 & 360) - Really enjoying this still, technically less than brilliant with several annoyances, but it always entertains and even requires some tactics at times. Tomb Raider Underworld demo (360) - Core what a looker. Still got some hangover glitches from Legend but plays well and looks a treat. Can't wait. Mirror's Edge demo (360) - Wow, was expecting a cel-shaded 3rd person game and got an ultra-sharp first person game instead. Hugely playable and great looking, could be a surprise hit for me out of left fiield in the same way that Portal was. Quantum of Solace (360) - only played the intro but coo what a start! It looks good, has amazing flames and particle effects, the weapons feel good and a nice cover mode that actually works... But it's by Treyarch so anything could happen yet.

Fallout 3 - fried gold. Far Cry 2 - initially wowed, but it's starting to get on my tits. Wipeout hd - fucking awesome at 11.99, I've always found the series kind of tiring to play for any extended period, but at this price I can dip in and out of it without feeling I should have just rented it. Great for quick fixes. WoW patch 3.02 - this is my final fling after a 3 year love/hate relationship that's finally gone sour on me. I wanted to check out the changes, just to see what impact it was having. I loved the halloween plague event but it rapidly turned into a lag and grief fest. I won't be getting WotLK and I'm knocking MMOs on the head and going back to my gaming roots. It's been kind of fun, but I won't miss it. The Witcher enhanced - I was after a Baldur's Gate/Vampire Masquerade style game and this is it. It was riddled wth game breaking bugs on initial release, along with some fucking hilarious localisation, but this enhanced edition puts all that right. I still think it's gonna get largely overlooked, which is a shame cos it's a really great game. Edited by b3ast1e, Nov 8 2008, 02:43 PM.

Fallout 3- I loved Oblivion and this just improves on it in nearly all ways. I have never played FO 1 and 2, but it still has me gripped. Anyone else find themselves singing the "Blackadder" theme song when the tune is played on the Enclave radio station? |

I've finally finished Half Life 2 and, while I enjoyed most of it to an extent and thought the final few levels were ace, I didn't rate it as the classic that everyone raves about. Intriguing ending, though, which has made me want to play Episodes One and Two at some point. |

Maybe your experience was a little blunted coming to it some years after it was released? Most of the innovation displayed at the time has been cloned in pretty much every shooter you play these days, so it probably doesn't stand up so well. It's a top 5 game of all time for me. Shame they tried to ruin it completely with the dire Episode 1. Glad they redeemed themselves completely with Episode 2... |

I only got one game for Christmas: Professor Layton and the Curious Village for DS. I'll start on that when I've finished the third Phoenix Wright game. Although I haven't unwrapped my Christmas game, it has inspired me to go back to Zack and Wiki on Wii, which is a similar puzzley game. I'm really enjoying it all over again and, for once, the motion controls feel integral to the game, rather than tacked on. My only complaints are a) as with all Wii games, I tend to lose the pointer during moments of frantic action and b) all the dialogue's text based - why don't Wii games have voice acting? I've also been back to finish Tomb Raider Legend before I start on on Underworld. Still seems good 2 years on - however, I haven't played Uncharted yet. |

Well, I've ben mostly playing Fallout 3 on the 360, as well as teensy bits of Gears Of War 2. I've got Resistace 2 and Motorstorm Pacific Rift to start as well. They were all Xmas games....I got Far Cry 2 just before Xmas for £17.99, but it's now resigned to the cupboard as it's just not that good - I find pretty much anything Africa-related bores me senseless - weird. Am enjoying Fallout 3, and finding GOW2 quite hard to play in addition - will try and finish Fallout 3 first I think; maybe it's coming off the back of finishing Fable II, but I think I now prefer a more slow-burn type of game at the moment? |

I completed Fallout just before I went back home for crimbo and I started forcing my way through Farcry 2 as I'd done nothing on it. I've learnt to accept the games limitations and take things slower, as rushing through checkpoints only means you die faster and have to go back right to the beginning. Saving often helps too. Going to wait for Gears to come down before I get it but I really fancy a racing game to bum around on but there's nothing about.Still no TDU sequel... |

My only advise for Fallout 3 is to ignore the main quest, it is nowhere near as good as it could be(and a poor ending), and stick to exploring and side stories. Luckily I found a mod for the PC version that lets you keep playing after the main quest has finished. Otherwise it is a great game. I have also been playing Tomb Raider: Underworld, really enjoyed it only let down by stupid first swimming section and story that did not live up to the great set up from Legend. On the plus side giving Lara scuba gear has made the swimming easier to handle and the platforming and puzzle difficulty was just about spot on. |

I'm really enjoying Fallout (Bon was wrong on this one!! I'm getting old and slow, I reckon), but am surprised that on the consoles once it's over it's over - still a LONG way from that as I'm still bimbling around Megaton and the school and the endless railway tunnels - think I've put 10+ hours in and I'm just on level 5/6 - in fact, I did all the levelling up from 5 - 6 the other night and then thought that I wasn't happy with what I'd chosen (the ludicrous gibs Perk, like from Rise Of The Triad), so sat and thought about it in bed for flippin ages afterwards! Always the sign of a game that's got under my skin - luckily, I had a save from just before the level-up that I can revert to and then get to level 3 on the extra XP Perk. God - starting to sound like an RPG nerd! Edited by Juz, Jan 1 2009, 03:41 PM.
