it's linear rather than sandbox innit?
I'd say VERY linear due to the novel that it's based on (which is very good btw) set in the Moscow Metro system. From my brief play before I posted it off to Pedro I'd say it's gonna rely on the dark and hordes of nasty monsters for its scares, and due to limited ammo and initially crappy weapons will be more survival horror than shooter/RPG.

The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct. The half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind. But the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory, the stuff of myth and legend. More than 20 years have passed since the last plane took off from the earth. Rusted railways lead into emptiness. The ether is void and the airwaves echo to a soulless howling where previously the frequencies were full of news from Tokyo, New York, Buenos Aires. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. Mutated by radiation, they are better adapted to the new world. Man's time is over. A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on earth. They live in the Moscow Metro - the biggest air-raid shelter ever built. It is humanity's last refuge. Stations have become mini-statelets, their people uniting around ideas, religions, water-filters - or the simple need to repulse an enemy incursion. It is a world without a tomorrow, with no room for dreams, plans, hopes. Feelings have given way to instinct - the most important of which is survival. Survival at any price. VDNKh is the northernmost inhabited station on its line. It was one of the Metro's best stations and still remains secure. But now a new and terrible threat has appeared. Artyom, a young man living in VDNKh, is given the task of penetrating to the heart of the Metro, to the legendary Polis, to alert everyone to the awful danger and to get help. He holds the future of his native station in his hands, the whole Metro - and maybe the whole of humanity.

On that note, why doesn't my PSN I.D thing in my sig update itself properly? It's way out of synch with what I've actually been playing.
I think you have to log in to PlayStation.com and click "refresh my account", and also have to have been online with yer PS3, it never updates automatically.

I was thinking of giving Mass Effect 2 a bash, but as someone who doesn’t usually to RPG’s I think that I’m only interested because of all the hype.

And demo of AvP left me cold. Got dizzy playing at the Alien and controls where unresponsive and clunky.

Any suggestions?

PM'd you about ME2 m8.

And yes, I've been left to review AvP (ta Sloppy [tongue] ) and really don't know what to think of it. Atmopheric as fuck and excellent sound, but the funnest of the 3 campaigns (Alien) is so disorientating that it gives me a headache - like the upside-down bits in Prey did, or like trying out how to figure where you are using the map in a Metroid Prime game, or any part of good old Descent on the PlayStation - remember that? Wonder what the chances are of a this-gen remake?

Hmmmn...played about 1.5 hours of AC2 and it's leaving me cold like the first one did.

I think it might be to do with that whole "It's no good, I just don't like....." thing I've got going on for anything pre-lots of cars and guns and shit.
Yeah I got tired of it really quickly, but then found myself going back to it time and again. Ended up finishing it with 1000Gs as some of the 'challenges' were quite fun. It really made me question just how tedious the first AC must have actually been if this one had a lot more variation though. Cars, tanks, planes, choppers, guns, explosions, destructible scenery and boob-baring women might not make a game, but they don't half help it along.
Yeah the Aliens bit in the demo left me dizzy. Not for me thanks! And as I say the controls were clunky as fcuk!

Descent, hmmm rings a bell! Will have to Google that and remind myself! Good Question though, what game do you want to see remade? I was just thinking the other day that Hexen or Heretic should get a next gen make over, or even a reboot on the iTouch or something!

AC2 Juz, I loved that game. To be honest the first couple of hours are dull - but it is soooo much better than AC1 and when it gets going it rocks.

Ahhh...Brutal Legend turned up and already it's first 2 hours knocks AC2 into a cocked hat!

Man - this game is a Metalhead's dream!

Have decided to abandon Assasin's Creed 2. I can't be doing with the whole "walk 10 yards, get spotted, or crawl along in a crowd for 10 yards, leave it briefly and then get spotted" bullshit of it all now - to me, it's just as shite as the first game, but I thought I'd give it a go due to the overwhelmingly positive opinions on it.

Mass Effect 2 – totally different from the usual games I play and I have to say I’m hooked on it. Tried and failed at RPG’s so many times but this one has reeled me in!

Bad Company 2 – Only done the first couple of levels. Yeah, it’s okay – it’s a first person ‘modern warfare’ shooter. What more can I say! Need to play more to see if it’s better than MW2 or not.

MW2 Stimulus – 1200 point for 3 maps. What a rip off! And I paid for it too – dipstick.

I wondered who would stump up the exorbitant ransom for what looks like a couple of new maps and then the ones from the previous game. what is weird is that since the pack came out my matchmaking has gone tits-up, so searching for and joining a game now takes 10mins, as if I am being punished for not buying the pack. Which I shan't be doing. shame on you Infinity Ward, I thought you were better than this.

Well, Just Cause 2 obviously....lovely!

But I downloaded the MP demo of Blur last night and this will probably be the first racing game from Bizarre that I completely ignore.

Riddle me this:

Why bother spending out on licences for replication of REAL LIFE cars, and then imbue the cars with the handling characteristics of Mario Kart? Just because the game involves weaponry, doesn't mean (imho) that it has to handle like utter shit....oh, and the Audi TT I drove whined like a 50cc moped....horrible.

The sort of racing game that will actively reward some talentless 12 year old who drives like a spastic for 2.5 lamps and then happens across a power up right at the end which can win him the race.

I'll pass, ta.

I'm with Juz on Blur - itis fucking awful. For me, PGR4 is THE racing game of this generation. It's amazing no one has surpassed its weather system yet (yeah I know Diddly thinks it's a bit pants :P) and it is even more amazing that Blur is from the same team. utter generic shite.

FFS - The CARS IN PGR4 LEAN THE WRONG WAY - WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE THIS RIDICULOUS-LOOKING BUG BOTHERED? And the bikes were a fucking pointless waste of time.

How you can rate that above Dirt 2, NFS Shift, Burnout Paradise, and even GTA IV's races is beyond me m8. Even Borzya 3 was less buggy and more varied. Oh, and the PGR4 weather system was supposed to be dynamic and wasn't, and also didn't effect the AI at all - so pants to that. At least GTA IV and Just Cause 2's weather systems are truly dynamic, and do effect the handling of both player and AI vehicles. [tongue]

Factette: Haven't played the Blur demo yet but I have played Split Second, which I believe will pee on Blur from a great height. If Blur is Project Mario Kart then SS is Rumble Racing 2010:

Dirt 2 bored me to death to be honest. Haven't played Shift because it is a bug riddled mess of a game and they still haven't fixed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Burnout Paradise.....ugh...words can't describe how much I came to hate that game, and it's way too arcadey for me.

Never played any GTA races to be honest (at least not against other people - much to my regret) but I suspect the physics, while enjoyable in the game itself, would wind me up if I were playing against others and actually trying to win. A bit too floaty, but great within the context of the game world and cops and robbers chases.

PGR4 just did something right for what I wanted in a racing game. In fact I recently deleted my save games and have started it over again. Some guys I know who got into Forza have know decided PGR4 is still the racing game for them as well. It just nailed something, but I can't really describe what. It just feels "right" to me.

Oh and while I'm loving Just Cause 2 - its ground based vehicles are.....mmmmmmmm, not great.

I think you are right about Split Second by the way. I bet they can't get Blur out of the door quickly enough so that it doesn't come up against, what looks like a far superior game.

Fairy nuff m8, for something I "hated" so much I played it for a bloody long time, and even went back to last year to "finish off" a few races and get a few easy achievements that I'd missed. As you said it certainly did something right. The car handling was damn near perfect (apart from some weird bouncing when landing from jumps even in cars with next to no ground clearance or suspension travel), and way better than 3's - it even played better online, though nowhere near as appealing as good old 2. The track selection was also a bit naff IMO, and lacked the appeal of 1 or 2's varied tracks. When I heard NYC was back in I was thrilled, but where were the narrow streets of the financial district, the back alleys and tunnels from PGR1? All the NY tracks seemed to be flat-out drag races for morons on wide streets.

It's a shame the "project" appears to have been led by an evil, drunken monkey with a homo-bike fixation. I love to watch (good) replay modes from TV-style cameras, I think you get to see a lot of what you miss whilst zooming by during races, especially as I tend to use in-car views whenever possible. The thing that kept slapping me in the face was the weird corner physics thing, and once spotted it's impossible to ignore it - I hasten to add, I don't think this is noticeable from the in-car view at all, or any view while you're actually racing - it's something that only appears in replays. The thing that really annoyed me was that it was clearly something that was stupidly added to the replay mode's physics after PGR3, in which the cars leaned round corners very realistically. So why? And why no patch to fix it? Bizarre indeed.

You need a Chevalier Ice Breaker m8. Handles like it's on rails, virtually indestructible (though sadly not weaponized and doesn't have bullet proof tyres). It's free DLC btw. "Free" and then it costs you 25k a pop in game. The bastards :sigh:
