This week I have mostly been playing

You know...as much as I do like me some PGR, they never bettered the feel of the cities after Metropolis Street Racer. That had the central reservations, belisha beacons, the lot. It really felt like you were racing around London. I had a soft spot for San Francisco as well. It is a shame that the later games dropped that city and also the traffic hazards.

I do wish I'd done some online GTA IV racing though. I love that game these days and I missed out on all the online aspects.

Anyway, what have I been playing this week. Just Cause 2, GTA IV (finished the main story for the umpteenth time and am now back doing the Lost and Damned), Yakuza 3 (loving it, getting a real Shenmue vibe from it) and Guitar Hero: Van Halen.

Yeah, I loved PGR4 too....but not enough to buy; it was a rental from LoveFilm that I had at home for about 2 months!

Split Second = Rumble Racing 2010 ??????????

Colour me interested! What's the driving model like, Bon? That decent mix of realism/arcade that PGR had - hopefully NOT the "centre-gimballed" shit that Blur has.

I suspect that Blur won't get a score above 7/10 anywhere.....unless the demo was absolutely ancient.

It's more Burnout Paradise than anything, probably more controllable powersliding if anything and with some amazing, daft but fun tracks with alternate routes etc.

Oh, and whilst I'm slightly dubious about posting this but I'm assured it really works for everyone (as long as you have a few friends):

There is a warning on the 360 facebook page that some of these sites are hacking 360 accounts so be careful.

Yeah i've removed it because although I've got a few old and trusted friends who've accrued points through this it would seem that some people think it's a known account hack. We'll see.

Had a session on Blur this morning and while it's fun, it seems to be brainless, relatively skill-free fun (1st or 2nd three times in a row on the last lap and finish 7th or 8th due to getting rogered from behind - YAWN), and I'm not overly impressed with the neon-tastic visuals, it's like racing around a gay club. Even more certain now that Split Second will get my cash.

I've never been in a gay club so I'll take your word on that part :)

It is amazing to think that PGR is getting on now, and yet visually it easily outshines Blur I think. I know Blur has some more cars onscreen and some whizz bang fireworks, but surely they should all come as part of improving a game engine. Although I'm sure I read somewhere that MS owned the engine that PGR ran on, and maybe Bizarre just haven't managed to code one that was just as good, if not better.

Knowing a few journalists, actors and TV personalities means I know plenty of raving poofters. If ever in a gay club with them I always race around so they can't catch me. I'm simply gorgeous you see. :arse: It's like playing Blur, only without the cars and with added homophobia.

Chase me? Bon, did you have a career in the 80's you want to own up to?

Modern Warfare 2

Wowee am I glad I only rented this! About 7 hours gameplay that already feels old-fashioned....looks nice in places admittedly, but incredibly repetitious.

If I'd have paid £40 for this AND didn't go online at all I think I'd be super-pissed. Played online for a bit and it felt like a higher res version of shit I was playing 5 years ago.

Not trying to troll, but I just thought it was overrated.

Yeah not being one for online multiplayer shooters, I am totally lost as to how MW2 sold so many copies. Just seems......wrong.

Having said that maybe my tastes are just a little bit left field. I'm playing Yakuza 3 at the minute and loving it. I tried Brutal Legend, and also Batman - but they haven't clicked with me at all. Batman especially puzzles me, I just don't get what made it so many people's game of last year.

I'm still plodding away at FF13 but it feels like a chore to be honest. I want to see it through, but it's going to be a slog. Having much more fun going back to GTA and also some Guitar Hero: Van Halen. Since my bike accident stopped me playing the guitar anymore, that Guitar Hero/Rockband games makes me feel like I'm actually involved in the music in a way I can't physically do anymore. Good stuff.

Just wish the fuckers would stop with the complete and utter dogshit dlc every week and give me Rockband: Led Zeppelin and Rockband: Mike Patton and let me while away every evening in heaven :)

I refer you to a couple of my quotes from the original MW2 thread m8:

"It does feel dated so far"

and

"the whole thing has left me with an overwhelming feeling of MEH, and I haven't even finished it yet."

Exciting and impressive at times, but felt like it was trying waaaaaaay too hard to entertain without actually having any substance or anything new to show - a bit like a Bruckheimer movie. I'd go as far as to say the online feels tired. BF Bad Company 2 is way better in all departments as far as I'm concerned - and fun too.

I have 3 weeks off work for my Birthday and fancy treating self to a game but its a toss up between JC2 and new Splinter Cell
Think may wait to see what I get next from Lovefilm before deciding

Just sent them back AVP which I completed all 3 campaigns with very little problem, felt very very retro and far from impressive

My one HUGE request for the ext 12 months is LESS DARK LEVELS
Its not big, its not clever and its not scary
Its just bloody annoying, lets have some brighter more colorful games, games that make decent use of the colors and definition available these days, it reminds me why I used to get so pissed off with The X-Files

Roll on the new Red Dead

You want bright and colourful?

Get Just Cause 2.

There are very genuinely times when it feels like a living, breathing tropical island - lovely.

And the night-time cycles aren't that dark, and don't last that long, whereas Splinter Cell (I imagine) will be one long dark-o-thon, no?
