Well damage definitely effects the handling, and the amount of understeer actually depends on whether you lose the end plate or the the small side element or the whole thing, so presumably some of these muppets who complained about it have been playing with damage 'off' or 'cosmetic only' or something. Whatever the case, I can certainly detect a difference, so bollocks to the naysayers. :arse:

I did however experience the frame rate pronblems for the first time, at Kuala Lumpur the game seemed to freeze for a fraction of a second here and there, and it got steppy on nearly every lap at the final hairpin, so yuck-oh to that. :-/ I don't really understand it either as quick race at Monaco (which I must say looks fantastic) in the rain didn't have any such Kuala Lumps.

I think a lot of the problems and complaints will be down to the game being optimised for both a playable, US-friendly career mode and the online play and the inherently vital "user-friendly" gameplay and collisions (which, let's face it, Codies have often got completely wrong in the past), which make (as you said m8), the online racing possibly the best since PGR2, but at the same time makes the whole thing less pleasing for sim heads. I still think that if they have damage set to 'full' and rules & flags set to 'realistic' they'll have all the game anyone could realistically want.

Well, I'm falling out of love with the single player part of this game.

Going to the codies forums shows just how many bugs there are in the game - it's a long list. Here are the main ones so far: pitlane bug where you don't get released until every car in the pitlane has been released first, no matter how far away from your box they might be. The A.I blocking as it exits the pitlane during qualifying - made worse by the fact codemasters have admitted the cars going out during qualifying aren't posting times; it's purely cosmetic and then the game chooses times for them based on who they are!!!!

If you have fuel simulation switched on, yours is the only car affected. The a.i race as though they have qualifying fuel onboard. The game freezes for a few seconds during practise and qualifying sessions, which is a pain in the arse if you are mid-corner.

During races some of the a.i cars don't pit at all. This is what has caused me to have races where the supposed top drivers all finish mid-table.

Now for me, that stuff above is game breaking. I started off in a Sauber as I wanted to start small and work my way up like a "proper" F1 driver. But racing on the hard settings makes it impossible at times to get anywhere (I want fuel set to on, but that makes me struggle against the A.I who aren't affected). So I'm having to switch off various settings to get the game to play out how it should have been straight out of the box.

God knows how long it will take them to fix all this shit. Oh yeah, and anyone on 360, there is a bug where you might not be able to load up saved games - oh dear.

It is a fucking disgrace really that they let this shit slide, presumably to still catch the tail end of the F1 season and also avoid clashing with a certain high profile Sony racing game due out in the not too distant future.

Question: what are the replays like? Are there any? I mainly ask after playing (and not enjoying) Split/second which, for a game ALL about TV racing, had no fucking replays!!!

Replays are.....ok. They are the usual codemaster stylish replays. But, they only show your car - there is no option to switch to other cars on the track. However, you can't save them for some reason.

I saw it mentioned somewhere that they didn't have time to implement saving replays. But that seems crazy when the game clearly saves the reply data, in order for you to watch it after the race. Quite why it can't be permanently saved on the HDD is anyone's guess. Like most parts of this game, it is halfhearted in its implementation.

I'm struggling to see how some of the mechanics of this game are working. During qualifying I struggle to get a half decent place, but then during the race I can do pretty damned well. I guess it is in part due to the qualifying times being "made up". But you'd think the same subroutines giving the cars qualifying times would then give the same cars a good race pace.

Had my first rain race earlier and it was immense I have to say. It is so intense fighting for position and not being able to see track side markers for where the corners approach.

Fucking annoying hearing your race engineer keep telling you it is wet so be careful, when you are pelting along in pissing rain.

edit: it now seems as though the race a.i cars are fake as well. The cars may well be racing against you on track, the times they post don't correspond to the way they are driving the track. It is backed up by a screenshot someone posted of him being in first place at the end of the first lap. Yet the a.i cars all behind him, posted times 3 seconds faster - which is of course, impossible.

It also explains why you can't see the other cars in replays, as apparently they aren't drawn on track if they aren't within sight of your car. It does also explain why no split times are posted during the race. You see laptimes, but you never get split times showing the gaps between you and other cars.

All in all a bloody shambles really. GP4 managed a full grid of cars with telemetry and full working a.i tracking complex physics years ago. They should have paid Crammond to work on this game to be honest.

Liz has managed to pick it up for £27 or so, so will have a gander next week. By the way- any news on whether or not it'll have ongoing updates or will it just be a new game every year again?

Codemasters said in a couple of interviews there will be no DLC at all sadly. They want to focus on getting next years game out.

Rather shockingly, they want to focus more on the "live the life" aspect in the next game. Which is bullshit as it is tedious time wasting shite. They don't show any podium celebrations and instead have you sat in the press conference room and have you choosing from a choice of 3 answers, to banal questions thrown at you. Waste of fucking time when they didn't implement random engine problems and the safety car.

I did say on another forum that this game could end up being style over substance -and I have been proven right so far.

It is still a good blast though, which makes all the problems that more annoying because you can see the potential.

Enslaved Demo
Haven’t been the least bit interested in this but the demo impressed. From a game play perspective they have clearly taken a lot of inspiration from Tomb Raider and Uncharted. More so the latter when it comes to the in game cut scenes and set pieces. Looks great too. It would appear the enemies are mainly robot types, and it feels pretty cack taking them out. I don’t know why, but you simply can’t beat taking out waves of Nazi’s, Covenant, Zombies, Locust etc. Robots simply don’t work for me. That may sound a bit dumb, but there you are. Otherwise, top notch. The voice for the lead character sounded very familiar – couldn’t find anything on IMDB!

Mmmm good innit? When I first saw this I was sure it was Naughty Dog's new project, as it reminded me not only of Uncharted but Jak & Daxter as well. I really like Monkey, he's the kind of effortlessly manic nutter "hero" we don't get to "be" enough. An interesting plot with a gorgeous bird in a boob tube as a partner/nemesis doesn't do any harm either.

I think you summed it up perfectly in two sentences there m8. I've now had the pitlane bug on several occasions (even from 1st to literally last!), and even got passed by AI cars going into the pits on one occasion -- I went a bit wide on the entry, being followed closely by AI cars got a "Illegal Blocking" warning at which point my car went ghosty and they all overtook me by just driving straight through me! - needless to say I came out last again... [sad]

The only way I've got past this is to qualify on the primes so I don't have to pit when they do - but this obviously puts you at a huge disadvantage in terms of lap time (depending on what difficulty you're playing on of course).

Ha! Yes, I hear you on the Jak and Daxter. At the end of the demo it showed some in game video footage to further plug the game. And I noticed the hover board monkey boy was zooming around on!

Jugged up side kicks in boob tubes does no harm indeed ;)

As for it being any good, apart from the (IMHO) benign combat - it does look very promising. Perhaps combat in the game will feel a little more rewarding than what I saw in the demo? Looks lovely though and yes the characters seem to have a bit to them. I'm not sure that the climbing around will feel a little old - having done it to death in TR and Uncharted. I don't think Ensalved is going to do anything new, but it certainly executes an exisiting formula well. As I say, Uncharted is a clear influence. Like the bit where the ship explodes and you have to climb up the vertical wall. Straight out of Uncharted 2 where the train is hanging off the side of the cliff. Shameless :$

Just finished Singularity, and bits of it are really enjoyable. It's also very nice looking and "feels" great....however, it has some fucking hideous difficulty spikes and the thing I fucking despise above all else: Boss Battles. Thankfully, only really one that grated.

I would definitely recommend it - I had it on rental, and would be hard-pressed to recommend a purchase, but it was pretty damn enjoyable - kind of like the new Wolfenstein, but better.....oh, and I played online for 2 mins and that seemed pretty good too.

4 cases into Dead Rising 2 and loving it

It is still a Marmite gaming -if you enjoyed the 1st you will enjoy the 2nd but for those who it annoyed then stay well clear

Im not actually sure if its "better" than the first (I preferred the photography to the weapon building) but it is still loads of fun

The weapon building feels flawed though - its a shame you have to trudge to a workshop to build new items (although to be fair they are fairly close by) - by time you have got to some you have probably dropped or used the parts anyway - it tends to be a case of just building what you can when you get to them (and building a spiked bat every time you go back to the safe house)

It feels somewhat easier than the first, deadlines not as tight and plenty of time to explore or choose the rescue / boss missions

Again though for anyone who was annoyed that they could not do EVERYTHING in one play through and for whom the save system annoyed this will do the same

Time for me to eat some humble pie.

Despite my cynicism, I've been playing and really enjoying Halo: Reach. I think it's because it has returned to the expansive environments of the first game and combined it with a number of really stunning set pieces and a beautiful game engine.

I was right in saying there's nothing new or original here, but it is fun and engaging at all times.

In between games of Pro Evo, I've started on Dead Rising 2 and also really enjoying that too. I don't know if it's just me, but I do feel claustrophobic when I play it.

Finished Halo last week (on heroic after some weird save game glitch wiped out my single player and multiplayer games - just couldn't be arsed playing through again on legendary after that).

It's really nice, but it has made me want to go play Halo 1 again. Something about that game just sticks in my mind and I love my vehicle sections, which I'm convinced were better in the original.

Started playing both Enslaved and Castlevania. Enslaved is a very pretty game, but is plagued by those weird Unreal Engine texture pop-in problems. Not as bad as Mass Effect 1, but still jarring.

Gameplay wise though, it's all a bit old fashioned. Collecting shiny orbs and having glowing ledges that you leap to and from. What makes the glowing ledges/handholds more puzzling, is that you can't jump to your death. Monkey just refuses to jump if it is a jump he can't make, so quite why they felt they had to handhold you I'll never know.

The camera is also shite, flicking around all over the place, never focusing on what it needs to - just awful. Combat is similarly a bit borked. You can get away with button mashing all the time. I am playing on normal and have yet to die.

But the story is fairly interesting so far, and the acting is very good. Although it jars a little as I know it's Andy Serkis vocing Monkey, but with an american accent, so it does sound odd at times when you know that really he is English.

Nice little romp so far though, with a nice twist on an apocalyptic wasteland - lots of colour everywhere. It's a renter rather than a buy though.

Castlevania is holding my attention just as much. Looks lush in places as well, but at the cost of a reasonable framerate at times. Combat being the polar opposite of Enslaved as well. I have tried button mashing and had my arse handed to me many times so far.

I am not much of a fan of fixed cameras though, and so it suffers from some of Enslaved's problems when you want to be looking somewhere else and can't. Again the voice acting is great - but Patrick Stewart isn't quite working for me. I love the man usually, but his voice just doesn't seem a good fit with the game in my opinion. Robert Carlyle is much better suited I think. Although at times you do think to yourself how he is a skinny little fella and is voicing a man the size of an ox :)

I think Castlevania will come out on top of the two - not least because I like value for money and Castlevania weighs in on two discs and around 20 hours of play I believe. I am around halfway through Enslaved at maybe 3-4 hours of play.

Both nice games though, and I do find myself dividing my game time equally between the two games, so they much both be doing something right.

Ohhhhh - could have sworn New Vegas was out this Friday :(

I think I'm having a gaming 'peak' at the moment where I just can't get enough.

I stayed up until 2am Sunday morning to complete Halo:Reach. In my opinion it suffers the same issues as all the others in that they start brilliantly but can't maintain the standard through to the end.

I really enjoyed the levels where the was a sense of scale and openness, but lost a lot of interest as soon as the action was confined to buildings. The campaign mode was much too short and the plot a bit dreary. It's the best looking Halo game ever made for sure, and it was enjoyable (especially the first half). The fact that I traded it in yesterday I guess speaks volumes (I've no interest in playing it online).

Moving on to Enslaved, I've only played the first two levels but Retro perfectly sums up how I feel about it so far. I think they've made it impossible to fall because the control are so damn twitchy. It's looks great apart from that annoying side-effect of the Unreal Engine where everything appears smeared in vaseline and the male characters are uniformly over-sized. Hoping this one improves.

Dead Rising 2 is my game of year so far which is surprising considering how much I despised the first one. I've gone into it with a different mind-set, inspired by a Capcom blog I read last week. Instead of trying to play it like an action game, I'm treating it as an RPG which actually makes a lot more sense. Every time I die, I just restart the story with my PP and skills intact and see how much further I can progress. Yes there's a lot of grinding, but thankfully there's enough variation in the locations and the way you approach the cases to keep things fresh. I'm level 25 and starting to feel as though I can make a decent run on the story. Highly receommended.
