You've got far more patience than me when it comes to Dead Rising 2. A mate came over with a copy when it was released, but the loading screens, and the length of them - even when the game is installed....ugh! Couldn't take it. Which is a shame as I really enjoyed Case Zero. I am lost as to why that with all the games out with massive open worlds, DR2 has to keep loading in relatively small sections. I assume it is necessary, but it spoils the flow of the game for me.

The loading is terrible. Thankfully all cut-scenes can be skipped, but there's a major design flaw during the game. When escorting survivors they can get 'stuck' between zones. So you wait for the zone to load only to realize one of your gang got stuck in the previous area so you have to go back (loading screen), free them from the zombies and then try going back to the next zone (another loading screen).

That's three loading screens just to progress. It really is crazy, and the game wasn't as good as it is, it would be a deal-breaker.

Kane & Lynch Dog Days

Stunning. Short, but stunning.

This was a rental (you'd be gutted if you'd paid £40 for it), and as a rental it is fucking sublime. Like a grimy, noisy, sweary, non-stop Michael Mann style shootout on steroids.

There really is nothing to it, and I guess it's "dumb" but I fucking loved it - it felt brave in what it was doing, and I'd thoroughly recommend it.

F1 2010

The best F1 for 13 years? Hmmmmmn. Maybe. It's not bad, but it's also not particularly "fun" either. I know that F1 itself ain't exactly a laugh fest, but this game coulda been soooooo much more with a load of like mini-achievements or something thrown in. It's a dry as a nun's minge and the press bits are just a waste of fucking time.

Why no safety car? Why no commentary? Why's the Engineer the most annoying, pointless CUNT ever to appear in videogame "Careful overtakin, you don't wanna mess it up now!"....when I'm in 1st with the rest of the pack a half lap in front of me, or "We didn't get a great result last race [actually, I was 2nd in a Toro Rosso, but never mind that, you CUNT!], we'd really like an improvement this race"....repeated 10 fucking times before the fucking start of the race.

And there's also some crack-whore physics going on in some corners.

F1 2010 is a huge disappointment for me personally. I said ages ago to someone that focusing on stuff like fucking interviews instead of having safety cars etc, was a retarded decision and I stand by it. In fact I've given up on single player now after completeing a season with Sauber and coming 5th in the championship, only to find - despite me giving positive interviews - that even they didn't want to offer me a contract for the next season. All that was on the table was HRT of fucking Virgin!!!! Fuck that shit.

I am still playing online as I started a season with some guys on another forum and online it is great fun I have to admit. But blue flags don't work and I've found myself being lapped, only to let through people who were actually behind me as well as I had no idea who was who.

It is a broken mess and it makes me fucking angry when I see people on the codies forums defending the game. I'd like to punch them in the face for being wasteful cunts when it comes to spending money.

I have had a dabble on Kirby's Epic Yarn this weekend, and I have to say, as vomit-inducingly cute as it is, it is a bloody lovely game. Just so nice to play and see the amazing visuals (for a Wii game ;) ). It is a doddle to get through the levels and you can't die as such. But they do hide away extra little items for people who want to collect everything, and they can prove to be quite tricky to collect at times. So the challenge is there is you want it - but it's challenging compared to the rest of the game, so has to be taken in context.

edit: forgot to add "balls to you Diddly and your hatred of Fallout 3" ;) - New Vegas is out this week. Cannot wait!

Probably about halfway through Enslaved and I'm struggling to get into it.

Maybe I've been spoiled by the magnificence of Uncharted 2, but this just seems clunky and lacking in action and atmosphere.

There's clearly a lot of work that has gone into the story and design of the settings and characters, but it's really let down by the action and the constant interruption of the flow by having to direct your partner.

I'll finish it for the sake of completion, but will be trading it in come the weekend.

Yeah baby! Fallout New Vegas will hopefully r0x0r. Shame it looks more like another expansion pack, but you can't have everything I guess.

loved all the fallout games (including tactics) and lost weeks to Fallout 3

Seems its a lot more than just DLC

My idealistic intention was to plough through the main quests and then explore the margins until my deadline loomed. 50 game-clock hours and 38 quests later, I'd barely scratched the surface of the story, having spent my time being wonderfully distracted by interesting structures and enjoyable side-quests and ooh, what's that over there, let's go and see. I'd visited just under half the locations on the map, was two-thirds of my way towards the Level 30 cap and, according to the Achievements list, there were still at least 16 major quests to be completed. So, yeah: big.

and hardcore mode is a must

Medal of Honor Despite the fact this seems to have had an almost universal panning, I was loving it..........up until it suddenly finished. It must be the most pathetically short game I have ever played. Yeah I know it has multiplayer - but I have zero interest in that shit.

But I liked it wasn't an over the top action movie style game like Modern Warfare. I thought it was great how you physically made your way through the mountains etc, to each location - even taking in an ATV ride at one point (but which handled horribly)

Then suddenly it was over. I swear it was less than five hours long, and there is no justification for such a short game whatsoever. I don't give a fuck how many multiplayer modes they stick in. First and foremost a game should focus on single player IMO.

Did enjoy the ride though I have to say. Shame I have to give it back as I wouldn't have minded having another playthrough on a harder difficulty setting.

Was considering getting it but the 4 to 5 hour campaign mode put me off - ill pop it in list at Lovefilm
Starting to really annoy now the number of games that think due to a multiplayer mode they can pretty much not bother with the single player

MW2, Bad Company 2 and now this, all can be completed in one good sitting - even I completed MW2 on the day it came out before other half came home from work in the afternoon

Starting to thing games should be like films and have an (estimated) run time for single player modes

Well at the other end of the spectrum, I’m playing Castlevania Lords of Shadow and its fecking huge. Seriously the longest game I have ever played in this genre that I can recall, and it’s bloody brilliant. The levels are epic, panning out regularly to show of the amazing visuals and vistas. There are loads (and I mean loads) of enemies to combat – all of which have varied fighting styles requiring you to upgrade and execute different moves/combos to manage them effectively – certainly not a button mashing affair, but equally not as brutal and unforgiving as Bayonetta.

Yes, the Titan bosses are a rip off Shadow of the Colossus but its done so well who gives a monkeys. The other boss battles are nothing out of the norm, but still they’re done so well and look so good I couldn’t care less. There is a plethora of combat moves and upgrades as well as secondary weapons and magic at your disposal. So there is no chance of the 20+ single player campaign getting repetative – which is always a danger with such games. In fact there is so much squeezed in its boarder line confusing with the controls, but not so bad – just 10 mins getting back into it when you’ve been playing another game.

Yes, I’m gushing (and I am a D&D/fantasy nerd who gets off on these types of games) – but I genuinely think this is a game worth bigging up. The only negative is the terrible voice acting. Well it’s all pretty good apart from Robert Carlise and Patrick Stewart – what terrible choices. Named voice talent doesn’t sell video games and in this case takes a layer off the considerable polish. They really are a terrible fit for the characters.

In this day and age (especially when it comes to FPS modern shooters who rely on MP to justify their prices) it is a genuine pleasure to find a game that goes the distance. And doesn’t settle for 8-10 hours as the perceived norm (rather than what the paying punter wants, or at least this paying punter wants. It strikes the balance in terms of difficulty to challenge you and get extra hours out of game play, but also being bloody huge in its own right.

10/10 :coolspot:

Good deal! I love to see a happy nerd!

Meanwhile, everyone else better avoid the 5 hours of fun that Kane & Lynch offered up :o

I'm playing Castlevania at the minute, and it is indeed a huge game - especially for that type of game. I thought I had hit the end a couple of nights back, but then saw that actually I have maybe another third to go.

It's an amazing looking game at times, but I'm finding it a little......hollow myself. Something I can't quite put my finger on (although stupidly long boss fights don't help). In fact I put the difficulty down to easy as I was getting bored doing boss fights (they have mid fight save points, but this is one tough game to be honest).

I'm carrying on though just to see what graphical treats the game throws up next. I'm finding the fixed camera angles a bit frustrating though. Sometimes it frames itself so that you can't see the enemies you are fighting.

I don't know if it feels like a Castlevania game or not, because I've never played a Castlevania game before. As Indie says, the voice work by the two main actors just doesn't work. They both have great voices (Patrick Stewart especially) but it sounds like they phoned their pieces in. It isn't helped by the poor dialogue and you can almost hear Patrick Stewart cringing as he reads out the nonsense put in front of him.

For all those little negative points though, it is definitely worth trying out. It offers a decent challenge and certainly gives you bang for your buck which is a nice treat after Medal Of Honor.

Oh and I think I mentioned here Juz, but I thought Kane and Lynch was great. The first level as you go through the markets was a genuine highlight of this generation of machines for me - I thought the detail and atmosphere was fantastic.

Yes, agreed on the camera angle mate. For such a lovely looking game, what a pity they fixed the camera. Apart from the odd frustration where enemies disappear off screen it’s a shame you can’t just take a look around – with so much obvious effort taken to build a stunning world, why on earth would you limit the players ability to view it. Perhaps a compromise for the die hard Castlevania fans. Who knows? It was the same with Dantes Inferno and I recall saying something similar when playing that.

Likewise, I think I only played one Castlevania game on the NES or something – can’t really remember. So my judgement not clouded by fan boy rose tinted specs.

My only other gripe is that we’re having an extension built at the moment and we’re staying with the in laws as the old kitchen has been ripped out. No spare TV to hook my Xbox up to (and kids staying in our room, so no TV in there after 7pm), so it’s finding time to go home and play it! Bloody freezing as we have no heating either!

Fallout: New Vegas Soooo good to be back in the wasteland again. I must admit I was worried this wouldn't feel like Fallout 3 with another dev at the helm. But if anything this feels better than the last game.

My only teeny tiny disappointment is the opening of the game. You start off in a small town and so immediately feel "safe". I loved how in F3 you stepped out of the vault with no idea where you were heading, and if the towns you came across would be friendly or not. In this game it has been easy to wander off a little and kill a few things to start leveling up without fear of being hurt too badly and being stuck.

The flip side of course, is that from the off there are interesting things to do. In fact the quests I've done so far have all been damned good. The writing is improved and the voice acting is better as well.

I have read loads of reports of bugs etc, but in my 10 hours or so of play so far I haven't encountered any at all. But in big open world games like this I'm far more forgiving of stuff like that. The sheer amount of permutations of what can happen in the game must make it a nightmare to test adequately. I know I was down on F1 2010 - but a game like that is played one way only and had glaring stuff from the off that was clearly overlooked rather than missed.

So yeah, absolutely loving this. I just don't like the fact that it doesn't feel like 2 year since I last played F3 - where is the bloody time going :(

Saw an announcement for the DLC for Mafia 2 as well. Seems to centre of the story of Joe while Vito was in prison. Looking forward to having an excuse to dive back into that gorgeous world. My only worry is that it might be very short. I've seen 6-8 hours mentioned. But seeing as the main game only took me something like 11 hours to complete, I'm seriously doubtful they would make dlc that lasts over half as long as the main game did. Although I guess Rockstar managed to do DLC that had some legs to it.

Saw II Had a play of this over the weekend and amazingly they have managed to screw up some of the things from the first game. Now, I know it probably received less than amazing reviews, but I really enjoyed the first game. I went into it off the back of Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper (which I loved to be honest) and Saw gave me the same kind of vibe - the dark spooky areas and puzzle elements.

But with this game they have made combat all quicktime events. The first games combat was janky, but it felt satisfying when you stuck a spiked bat into someone's head. With this, it loses that feeling. They have added an odd quirk to walking across planks/narrow walkways. In the first you just used the left stick to balance. Now you use the left stick to balance, but have to tap the left and right triggers to mimic walking. With my screwed left hand it makes it bloody tricky for me to be honest.

Everything they have changed feels like a step backwards. It feels like the first games mechanics are a refinement on the seconds, which is plain weird! Still, I do like the loneliness as you walk the corridors and wonder what is around the next corner. It's budget gaming for sure, and that shows, but I find it enjoyable nonetheless. Notice Diddly has been playing it, and I expect him to tell me I'm crazy and the game is shit :)
