Game Dev Story - iPhone

This game should be banned. I downloaded it Sunday evening following a tip-off from a mate, and now I'm sat at my desk on Tuesday morning with the worst withdrawl symptoms I can ever remember.

Toilet breaks are getting more frequent and longer. It's a good job I'm the boss or I'd be getting fired :shades:

The premise is simple, micro-manage a game dev studio and produce games of various genres on different platforms. You take control of the business from hiring, to marketing and development and then (hopefully) watch the money roll in.

Some of the older farts on the forum might remember an 8 and 16bit budget game called 'Rockstar Ate My Hamster'. Well it's a lot like that.

Do yourself a favour and don't spend a couple of quid on it. I'm warning you!

edit: forgot to add "balls to you Diddly and your hatred of Fallout 3" ;) - New Vegas is out this week. Cannot wait!
I hope you're enjoying all the amazing state-of-the art AI, graphical glitches, frame rate problems, lock-ups and hard resets m8, was it worth the wait? :P

I do not accept that you can call the incredibly playable F1 to be a "broken mess" (some of which seems to be fixed btw - much to my surprise), and yet you're so forgiving of F:NV, surely the bugfest of the year?? But then, it is almost certainly "GotY" and a "big open world game" (as long as you're wearing the right fucking hat) What a(nother) overrated bag of shite - If they fix all those problems with a patch I'll eat my Xbox.

As one of our most knowledgable reviewers said to me this very day, maybe they should have saved some of the cash they're blowing on the monstrous, misleading ad campaign and bought the right to use the RDR engine? ;)

F1 2010 is a fucking abortion. They haven't even included some of the most glaring problems in the list of things they are supposedly fixing.

I was playing a race online the other night and one guy got black flagged because someone crashed into him! Yep, that is one motherfucking highly playable game there :D

Eeeek! - so you play with abortions. :X

And no more reports about your completely bug-free F:NV experience? You're one lucky motherfucker m8. ^o)

Totally agree about Saw II though, they seem to have made the worst bits from the first game (the combat mainly) simpler yet crapper as the QTEs are a piece of piss, and the best bits (the puzzles) easier. The settable traps, the gunplay and chucking molotovs have all been ditched, and a lot of the danger seems to have gone. The character models still look like PS2-era, the gameplay always seems to demand that you die horribly at least once before getting through a section... only the balancing has got tougher, I fell off the first balance beam about 5 times before I got the hang of it m8, so I feel for you. And yet, like you, I'm enjoying it. Surely masochists, the both of us - some games are like that.

Just over 18 hours on my game time
Level 15
Yet to even get to "The Strip"

and not one crash, glitch or problem at all (although Rex the dog is a fucking nightmare and I forgot where I left one of my companions) but thats it

Great game - as good as the previous and just entertaining and fun to play - may look a little dated but so does my Mrs and I still have fun with that

It will be GoTY I imagine and quite rightly so imho - its just a complete single player package and has hours and hours of game

It's a weird one, and it is why I am prepared to cut the game some slack. Other games that I won't mention....ahem, have bugs that everyone encounters, or haven't noticed for whatever reason, but are undeniably there. With Vegas, I see people encounter numerous bugs, yet I've seen none.

It was the same with Fallout 3 and Fable 2 - loads of people saying there were a ton of bugs, but I never encountered any apart from one instance in Fallout 3 where I tried climbing where you clearly weren't meant to do (at the edge of the map) and got stuck in a little crevice. Other than that I played them just fine. But in Halo Reach I got caught out with a save glitch that I can't see mentioned anywhere on the official forums or google. And that glitch cost me a LOT of game time. In fact I had to start over. Far worse for me personally than anything I've read about F1 or New Vegas.

I wonder if the various sku's these days causes issues? Various iterations of the same machines with shrunken processors etc.

Still sticking with Saw 2 but had one infuriating puzzle with no explanation whatever of what you were meant to do. But as you say Diddly, not nearly as tense

Yeah, I put in 200(!) hours on Fallout 3 and only ever had a Joey-fied Regulator leader who kept wandering off instead of staying put and a Blood Pack selling bonus that never kinda materialised...and that was it. Astonishing for that amount of time played imho. Ditto with Fable II - don't think I ever had a single bug with that one at all?

So you never stole a mug or a plate or something equally trivial and got hunted like a dog, and yet killed someone in plain sight and just walked outside to throw them off the scent? Isn't that a glitch? Like most RPGs F3's NPC AI was a fucking joke m8, and NV sounds no different, especially the "combat" - it's no better than the equally crap and overrated Morrowind... But if you have enough time on your hands and rose-tinted enough blinkers to enjoy that kind of tedious shit, more power to you. I don't, there's far too much choice these days and I need a game to far more immediate, fun and rewarding. Fuck me though, 200 hours! :jawdrop:

You could have spent doing some more productive or fun, like wanking, or wanking. [tongue]

Still sticking with Saw 2
Think I'm nearing the end (I fucking hope so) and BTW: There's an "achievement" that I just got just for loading up the game, only today as it's "play Saw II on Halloween" - how stupid is that?

Diddly I was playing Saw 2 earlier and was going to message you to tell you about that achievement, but saw you pop online and then knew you had it. I kinda like goofy ones like that though.

I'm very slightly ahead of you I believe, but rage quitted at that bloody puzzle where you pull the guy over the flames, the second room section pissed me off as I kept moving him too slowly as I got absorbed in the puzzle. Fucking hate how it has checkpoints just before climbing ladders/cutscene parts. I know you can skip the cutscenes, but it still pisses me off.

It does amuse me though how you keep ripping the piss out of Fallout, but are sticking with this shite :) Although this game does dirty and grimy better than Fallout. It actually has some nice detail in parts.

I traded in Enslaved for Fable 3 this weekend, hoping I would at least get a game that was fun to play.

Anyhow, it certainly is good to be back in Albion wandering around with your trusty dog, having to make big moral decision from the get-go. Call me a lazy gamer, but I really like the bread-crumbing. There's something really satisfying about making good progress all the time.

A good start!

Is breadcrumbing like teabagging?

I liked Fable II a lot, despite it not being my usual cuppa....I think it was cos it had guns (as pitiful as that sounds).

Did this bit today, and would NEVER have done it on my own, I had BeeB write down the symbols in the pairs game for me and made sure I shifted the roastee every time he whined. This bit was a bit glitchy (y'now, like New Vegas!), I'd moved him once or twice and yet still got the burstin-into-flames sequence. [flame] Thought this was a bizarre difficulty spike as the rest of the game has mostly been a doddle, although the chess/morse code puzzle was bloody brilliant.

Do we like the new Kinect-friendly dash and homo-friendly font etc? :sigh:

It looks lower res and a bit like Windows-meets-Wii to me. :X

Wintendo 360, I suspect this is just what Bill always wanted his console to be like... :-/
