Killzone Liberation (PSP) This is the first game I've played on my PSP for months and I'm loving it. I never played the PS2 FPS game, but this is a third person shooter. It looks great, the AI is pretty good, the sound is really atmospheric and there's a fair bit to do. Although you only have one other buddy to order around, it gets quite tactical because the enemy can attack from all sides and you need to make good use of cover. Even on normal difficulty, it's pretty tough (or it is for me!). I must try the multiplayer, which is meant to be good too. A thumbs up from me.

Gitaroo Man Lives (PSP) Never played the PS2 version, picked this up on impluse and haven't looked back. Right up there with the best gaming soundtracks, the approach to the rythmn genre is both moorish and insanely frustrating when you get it wrong. The online downside is the long loading times in between songs. Powerstone Collection (PSP) A perfect port of the DC originals. It's good in both single and multi player but let down badly by it's move to a portable system. With the action so chaotic (especially in Powerstone 2) it's often impossible to keep track of your character due to the size of the screen. |

Guess what - I've had the odd session on FFXI! Scarface - still good, and violent, but samey by the time you've reclaimed the first bit of turf. Barnyard - High quality kids game - free roaming collect 'em up, with pigs, mice and cows. Slightly disturbing to me in as much as by default you are a MALE COW that can shoot stuff by squirting milk out of its UDDER.... - At least I hope it's milk and an udder .... Fortunately I changed to a female girly ladycow with a Lara Croft-style plait and sexy wiggly walk. Reading that lot back I'd better stop playing this ridiculously perverted game and hand it in at the nearest Police station... :ph43r: Call of Duty 3 - It's more of the same linear shooty-duck-and-run-like-fuck so far but that's exactly what I wanted. Only played it briefly but have already come across destructible scenery, a thrilling tank ride and a new melee battle feature. From a visual point of view it's still smooth, the detail on the weapons and uniforms seems to have been taken up a notch, and it's still probably the closest thing to Ryan/BoB that you can get. |

Think I may have underestimated Call of Duty 3 - Now I'm into it the picture is becoming clearer - yes "it's more of the same linear shooty-duck-and-run-like-fuck so far but that's exactly what I wanted", but visually it gets more and more impressive - even if you compare it to the lovely CoD2. They've added a couple of driving sections, the thought of which made my alarm bells go off, but they are in fact great fun (in a "omigod there's a TIGER Tank pointing straight at me!" sort of way), and the handling, even for a Willys jeep, is way in advance of NFS Carbon. The physics (stuff flies everywhere) focus pulling as you change aim modes, general solidity and background effects are stunning, making it all look very real at times. Anyhoo, won't say anymore because of spoilers, and also because there's an embargo until tomorrow and I might get my bollocks chewed off. |

Call Of Duty 3 Definitely more of the same in terms of gameplay but there are a few minor tweaks. Plays great and looks rather nice even on my old Wega (New TV imminent) but I've found it to be over easy so far. This could just be the first few missions breaking me in but the enemies don't seem particularly smart on the normal difficulty setting. There's more cut-scenes in this time too. Whereas before you could move the camera during them, here there's no interactivity at all. Not a big deal but I found it does take you out of the action but on the plus side the characters seem a lot more interesting and distinctive this time. Top stuff in a familiar sort of way

I think that the extra cutscenes are there as a replacement for the loading screens - you can either watch a non-interactive cutscene or a loading bar... After finding that notching the difficulty up improved the enjoyment of CoD2, I'm going straight in on Veteran on this one. Get them achievement points... |

Yeah quite liked this. Works a lot better than most PSP shooters. Oblivion Had a long break after putting in 100 hours or so, and I've been whoring this hard to get at least the main questy bits finished before the crimbo rush. It is fun, but a tad buggy, doesn't really push fantasy RPGs at all, and the experience system is poorly thought out. It does do sandyboxy very well, and i've been "playing Barbie" trying to get a really good matching clothes set for my full mana outfit (non optimised armour with +30 mana items to match 105% magic resist items). I'm finding it hard to get more than 800 Magicka though, which is really limiting how good the spells i can make And i really wish you could edit/delete old spells - takes fucking ages to scroll thru my spell list  Guitar Hero 2 More of the same but better. Has Suicidal Tendancies and Rage Against the Machine, groups from the mid 80s/early 90s that i was in to - rock on! SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 2 More of the same but better. Uses your old FTB login and transfers friends lists across. Full infrastructure and good if you like that sort of thing. I havent gotten on with any other PSP 3rd/FPSs so this is it really. Okami Brilliant adventure game. Kinda like a Japanese Beyond Good and Evil. Visual style is handdrawn water colours and stunning. Last gasp of the PS2 and kicks the shit out of the Xbox (1) attempts at adventure games (IMO), it's also the main reason i took a huge break from Oblivion. Gears of War in 7 days... |

I thought that was their usual price for 360 games - has been since about February? Anyway... CoD3 Not entirely sure about the single player being better than CoD2, but I've only done one mission. Still, that seemed pretty focused on the gimmicky bits. Also, I'm playing on the Veteran difficulty, and I hopped and skipped through it with nary a graze on me. My main gripe really is that I don't seem to be able to get much shooting done - I can never properly pick people out from the background in time to get a hit in. Still, 'tis good fun, online's pretty sorted too - the arena I played last night had a lot of scrub and bushes around making sniping as the Scout class an art - it's hard to be seen, but also hard to see other people. |

Hmmm. Starting to have some doubts about CoD3. I know Treyarch (known for their playability but not their attention to detail with titles like Tony Hawk's 2 and the Spider-Mans) did this version and not CoD2 makers Infinity Ward, but they also did the rather wonderful CoD2 The Big Red One on PS2 and Xbox, so I wasn't overly worried. It would seem that they still can't make a game without sticky scenery though, and some of the collision detection is definitely a bit iffy compared to CoD2. Can't say as I think it's too easy though, I've had to replay several sections on "Normal", and the over-eager squad mates don't always help either, often taking a corner position you'd have liked, or even coming up behind you, taking your space and preventing you from ducking back into cover! Now I know you'll find it hard to believe, but I've never actually been shelled! But I do think the amount of screen shake and vibration during these (frequent) sequences is ridiculous, making accurate aiming impossible and meaning you may just as well leg it as far into the level as you can rather than fighting. Some of the animation is very sloppy too, and the way missions often suddenly end can be deeply unsatisfactory. Still enjoying it, but not as much as 2. |

Yup, what the fuck's up with that huh? "Oooof! Getting shot up a bit, I'll just back up a bi.....why aren't I moving? WHY AREN'T I MOVING????!!!!! Oh, it's this door frame that sticks out 2 inches from the wall that's preventing me fro..." *Splat* EDIT: And whilst we're WTF'ing: WTF is up with how shite the good guys' AI is? They can walk into a room, mob-handed with 3 or 4 Jerries in there only to find that when I walk in 20 seconds later, there's STILL 3 or 4 Krauts happily shooting away...suddenly just at me. Grrrrrr. |
