I must currently be going through a "Lifes too short" patch and have recently stopped playing numerous titles during the first hour of gameplay The latest is Dungeon Siege III - yawn, never been a fan of these hack, slash and tap button loads of times RPGs - it was bundled back to lovefilm before I even earnt an achievment |

Tried the demo of that, Dunk and found it fucktastically basic in every way, not just combat. Side note: new 7 min trailer for Saints Row III... Now I really have never clicked with the Saints Row games ( due to hideous framerates and shit driving models I think) and this sorta doesn't look any more likely to snag me...but I love me some sandbox gaming! |

I've been getting into Gran Turismo 5 at the moment, much to my surprise. Maybe because I haven't been sleeping well, so have been messing with the B spec mode. I am finding it quite addicting watching my driver follow my instructions and go on to win races. But a note for Diddly. I might need to borrow some cars off you if you have a decent selection? I'm missing some early 70's race cars as they simply haven't come up for sale second hand and so is stopping me making progress in some races. I'll give them back of course

I probably do have the cars you seek m8, but I sold the game some time ago when I realised just how crap it actually was after a certain point, and while it was still worth something.

No worries mate. Not sure what is drawing me to the game to be honest. But I do think it is a better gameplay experience than Forza 3 - hampered by tediously slow loading for everything though. The A.I has definitely come on a fair bit with each patch they have made to it. It is surprising how little content there actually is though. Or rather a lack of events. If it wasn't for the special events, the bulk of this game could be finished very quickly indeed. I just wish they didn't do that ridiculous thing of having certain events need cars which have to randomly turn up at the used car dealers. Very annoying. |

LA Noire Hmmn. I'm not that impressed with it to be honest. Pretty boring. The city just feels like a backdrop rather than a living, breathing playground - all the cases are exactly the same (thus far - 30+% in, 2nd disc), all vigilante (or whatever they're called) missions are exactly the same (shoot someone), all cars feel the same, just slower/faster. Facial animation IS incredible, but the rest is pretty naff. |

Call of Juarez: The Cartel played and finished this over the last few days. It's another of those games where I see the glaring faults, yet still manage to glean some enjoyment from. It does have me worried for Dead Island though. I just hope this game has so many bugs and glitches because everyone was put onto Dead Island duties when the buzz around that game started to pick up. Some examples of the problems. There is a cutscene where you are stood in the central reservation of a highway, and the cars passing by are only drawn up to a very short distance and then disappear. There are markers you follow that keep you on track in the (very limited) open levels, but some trigger cutscenes as you reach them, and your two partners will just vanish in front of your eyes and appear at the next marker on the map. Your partners can also just happily stand around while bullets are flying all over the place, while if you pop your head up you get shot to shit. Your partners are invincible you see, and they must have programmed there A.I to realise this ![]() In some canyon levels rocks literally appear right in front of you, I'm not talking small rocks, I'm talking huge parts of the geometry. But you know, I did like parts of it and it has potential. It is a pity they present you with this open world, but then penalise you if you wander too far from your objective. You get a short warning you are leaving the mission area and then boom, loading screen and it takes you back to the last checkpoint....very bad. The worst thing is that the gameworld looks suitable large and begs to be explored, but it never lets you for some reason. Guns feel very weak, the sound of them being what lets them down. There is no punch to any of the weapons. There is the lure to play through multiple times because your partners each work for different divisions of law enforcement, and as you are doing missions you get bonus points for carrying out secret tasks (mundane stuff like planting a bug while your partners can't see) but I'm guessing playing as each character throws up different secret objectives for each one and slightly different takes on the story. But I didn't enjoy it enough to try that ![]() So on the whole, probably worth a rental but not a purchase. Although I notice on Hotukdeals that it has dropped to sub £20 already!!! |

I've got that in my rental queue and I noticed it for £20.00 @ Morrisons. Speaking of odd, buggy, rough-looking games; I've got Deadly Premonition heading my way from LoveFilm and that has got some TERRIBLE reviews due to problems, but then lots of people seem to like it despite the flaws...I'll report back once I have it. |

I'd be interested to hear your assessment of Deadly Premonitions - I got it a while back when it was sub-£10 but haven't played it yet. I haven't played anything but Mass Effect 2 and the odd Kinect title of late - I only get to play about 2 hours a week.

I haven't posted in quite a while! How's everybody doing? I bought Deadly Premonition a few months ago and it is definitely something you should at least try. It has a lot of problems (outdated graphics, controls, the AWFUL shooting sections) but the story and dialogue is worth the entry fee IMO. The "Sinners sandwich" cut-scene in the diner is genuinely hillarious. It kept me hooked to the end, although I did stick to the main story and ignored the side missions. Definitely a marmite game but one I'm glad I dipped into. |

Having played it, I would say that "Sub £10.00" is waaay overpriced. Obviously, some people (Bon) can get over the "so bad it's good" shitness of this shitfest, but I just couldn't. The control method made me want to break my controller every 2 seconds, the "combat" made me miss Resident Evil 1 on the PS1, and the graphics made me miss my C64. I'd actually seen a lot of reviews that referenced the quirky shit that happens, so that would never have come as a surprise, so sitting through it was just not an option. Honestly absolutely shit. http://www.somethingawful.com/d/news/deadly-premonition-review.php Although that review made me LOL ^^ |

When one of the PR guys representing the game says to you "you don't wanna play that m8" you tend to lose interest. When Pedro (Hi m8!) says it's worth a look you probably should (unless he's talking about a certain horror movie set in space). When Juz says it's shit it sounds like I need to add that to my "SoBadIt'sGood" PlayList (which is fuckin' HUGE now). Reviews vary between 2 (IGN) and 10/10 (Destructoid (the 10/10 on the box) - who recently gave Call of Juarez: The Cartel 2.5/10, which I am just about to start). Confused. I. Am. |

I actually like the quirkiness of Deadly Premonition. But loading times and the awful driving model killed it for me. I do intend to go back to it at some point though. Just finished EDF: Insect Armageddon. I was a massive EDF 2017 fan. Yeah it was low budget, had ropey graphics etc. But it's charm - plus being so overwhelmed by enemies - had me hooked. But man they fucked this shit up with the sequel. The sheer scale and epicness just isn't there anymore. Not to mention the lack of variety. I recall the beach level in 2017 seeing masses of enemies coming for me. Plus, if I recall correctly, once you started the game again, you had all the latter awesome weapons you had collected. This game makes you start over leveled up, but with the shit starter weapons. Not good. And the ending.....oh man. There are some things to like, for example how nicely every building can be destroyed and crumble to the ground in a rather nice fashion. And just shooting things is fun when it is mindless nonsense. But although it takes place in what looks like a large city, you always feel quite cramped as enemies spawn from the ground right where you are. There isn't the feeling that you are approaching danger and aren't sure what you will face. And it loses the HUGE robots and spaceships from the first game. For me personally, they done fucked up son. Edited by Retrovertigo, Aug 1 2011, 10:12 AM.

Sounds like they fucked that up the way Volition fucked up Red Faction Armageddon...astonishing, when you think about it. |
