Finally finished Dead Space 2 and really enjoyed the whole thing. Considering how much I ended up hating the first one, that's a hell of a result!

Just gotta finish up Lego Pirates (enjoyable), and Deus Ex (unconvinced).

But recently I've been reading an appreciation thread on PGR 3 and 4, and those games still looks amazing. Even the now dated Midnight Club looks better. I think Driver took too many missteps for me to buy it at full price.

Missing the point with Driver SF surely? I agree about the scenery, it's best described as "fuzzy" and it seems to have that 'limited colour palette' thing going on (presumably for style, although I heard it helps online apparently too). Wouldn't a graphical comparison with Test Drive Unlimited 2, Burnout Paradise (which it reminds me a lot of) or even GTA IV be fairer? Midnight Club's handling was pap, and the gameplay more repetitive than I thought possible in a big city. Driver SF is remarkably varied and "open world" in all but the fact that you don't get out of the car. The amount going on is astounding! The traffic - if anything - is too heavy, even when playing online! It hardly ever misses a beat frame rate wise - something that TDU2, PGR3 and 4, Granny Turismo 5 etc. couldn't manage with 6 or 8 barely-damageable cars on-screen. The most amazing thing that I'm playing the whole thing from in-car (unless I want to admire a new purchase and do spectacular smokin' donuts), and I really, really didn't think that you'd be able to play the MP modes that way. Dunno how it works, but it does. Accurate steering (unlike TDU2) and a decent frame rate probably make this possible.

With you on Dead Island m8, Juarez is just about a dim enough memory to allow me to get excited about it all over again - especially the co-op.

I'm also enjoying Driver which I was tempted to get after Gamestop discounted it to £22 for an hour. I love the Life on Mars-type elements, the shifting is a nice twist, and the chases brought back happy memories of the original game (after they were soured by Driv3r). It might tempt me back online after 2 years of total abstention too - especially if some of the FL posse were up for a sesh.

Ummmm by the way what nobody's talked about is Director Mode in Driver SF! Is it there?? I loved Driv3r just for that!

Yep it's there and it's easier to use than in Drivethree-er. Definitely a "game within a game" if you're that way inclined, I've wasted hours on it already.

It's in the rental queue...but the Director Mode really appeals and I couldn't leave it alone in Driv3r. Bon - does it do all the "variable slomo" shit like Drivthreeer?

In other news: I've abandoned Deus Ex - just too fucking boring.

Yep, you have 1:1, half speed and quarter speed, makes those crashes, slides, heavy landings very moody. You can change the camera timings, place them just about wherever you want, with zoom, and I've yet to reach the camera limit that used to bug me in Driv3r, so maybe there ain't one; if anything I seem to keep deleting them to make for longer shots. You can make a saved replay up to about 5 minutes long (you just quit from the game and go to the Director mode to replay the last few minutes of play), uploads are limited to about 40 secs long I think, I haven't tried that yet but it shows you how much of the replay can be uploaded and you can trim it accordingly and save it as a separate file if you don't want to mess up the whole thing.

I may be wrong but I think you need to be registered with Uplay and, as a renter, you'll need to buy the Uplay code to access it though, the same as the online play. All the big publishers seem to be doing this now, and it sucks.

Cheers Bonners. I'm getting used to being bummed for daring to rent, but the flipside is I'm playing more games than I could ever justify buying.

But man, I LOVED director mode in Drivthreeer :(

Oh, and btw, Sony fanboys who were smug about Sony exclusive games not having this nice feature can now officially STFU. Sony have started the online access code thing with Resistance 3 as well (they call it a "Network Pass"). I guess the used games market was just too healthy and too many friends loaned games aroound, and too many people were prepared to wait a week or two before buying a new release second hand. It's all about maximizing sales I spose, can't blame them for that. I think it actually cuts down the number of players who try out the online modes though, so many people seem to ebay their games with the codes intact.

Apparently Ubisoft have had to drop the fee for a Driver online pass (which you do need for Director mode) because a printing error on the cards that came with the game has meant that a lot of people who bought the game have been given invalid codes.

Apart from the one hour lunchtime offer at Gamestop, where I snapped it for £22, I haven't seen it for less than £33 (Shopto).

Here: http://driver-thegame.ubi.com/driver-san-francisco/en-GB/home/index.aspx (Driver Club button on the right).

I had a problem viewing mine at first but it was all down to me being a dumbass and having separate Uplay profiles for PS3 and 360. You can download vids and put a star score on them, and see player's stats (25+ hours on it already, nearly all story mode). They don't seem to stream very smoothly for me, but it's good enough.
