Nope, I just made the mistake of attacking the whinging bloke right by the fire and he killed me...over and over and over again, despite me doing nice counters and shit. His health never actually dipped, despite the copious amounts of blood I slashed outta him. Then it would mean that EVERY time I had to reload that good old single fucking load point, he'd come flying after me no matter where I went. Till I ran away and went to a mountainy bit where I had two choices for insta-death: two cave trolls or a fuck off big dragon.

Honestly, this game just isn't for me.

Your not really supposed to attack the npcs. Anyone you can talk to is not an idea to attack

Start again. Choose the character with the soul arrows and the masterkey
Then when raven drops you off find the steps up. They are behind you as you get dropped off.

No way dude! I ain't starting that shit again; I don't play games for the challenge, that's why I rented this puppy instead of buying it. Forza 4 coming soon and then Rage'll turn up in queue. Not to mention I'm playing (and thoroughly enjoying) Resistance 3 at the mo. Appreciate advice but really can't begin to imagine how pissed off I'd be if this happened 10 hours in rather than the ~1.5 I've wasted so far.

Well to be fair I've mainly watched videos of Dark Souls on stuff like Justin TV, and with it being a relatively small video window to begin with on there, any icons (and yeah I meant the quadrant of them bottom left) stick out like a sore thumb.

I have always played games with any hud switched off where I can though. I just have having anything clutter up the screen as I find I don't have the same level of immersion in the game.

I am using a Panasonic plasma as well, and while retention does indeed go away after a while, it still bugs me. Especially with games that use bright white segments in HUD's. Dead Island is a menace with its big white health bar. That stuff stays onscreen for quite a while afterwards before it fades.

I've been think for a while now, of buying a reasonable LCD TV for the bedroom and playing RPG's etc on that instead, as they are usually the games I will play for hours without a break.

Just had 2 and bit hours straight on it, no retention at all (its never been something I suffer with)

I did half hour or so farming on the dragon bridge (about 600 souls in just under a minute)

Did it to boost my vitality up to same as strength so now both 16 and its made a very good game even better
Its the case that your starting health is def far too low but a few boots and now I can take a good few hits and allow me to heal as well, makes battles better and progression little easier (actually progressed more in the next 2 hours than have before)

There is so much to do in the game, it is huge and its open
Its also a game that can be played in 10 minute runs or have an afternoon dedicated to it
Its an ideal game for this time of year as its going to be one I can play when just want an hour on something "different" (have Batman, MW3, Battlefield 3 and Skyrim all on pre order)

Dead Island - I was enjoying this a fair bit to be honest. It certainly gives you plenty of (admittedly repetitive) gameplay for your money. Then bam.....save game corrupt and all progress lost :/ rather stupidly I hadn't backed up my save (although to be fair, on a console why should I). Went to play it last night to try and finish the game and it wouldn't load my character :( 85% progress and 35 hours all for nothing.

Supposedly they are working on a patch which might salvage damaged save games - we'll see.

Still playing Forza 4 and enjoying it so much more than FM3. It just feels so much better to play. I just wish I had the patience for doing the painting etc.

Also decided to get back into Crysis and starting to enjoy it much more as I get used to using the abilities in the game. Unlike Crysis 2 you really do need to think about how best to use the cloak etc. No buildings to always hide behind and pick off the bad guys from. And it does have some pretty spectacular moments in it.

I managed to get my Onlive Micro Console replaced and with Batman out tomorrow and me being skint, the one pound game offer will come in quite nicely. I wasn't a massive fan of Arkham Asylum to be honest, but City looks much more up my alley with its open world. Should be worth it for a quid :)

Still playing and still absolutely enjoying Resistance 3. You can keep your fuckin Killzones (I've never rated any of em), cos this is the real deal.

This one is astonishingly bleak and dark and is extraordinarily similar tonally to Half Life 2...if you're waiting for the next installment of Half Life, this might fit the bill. One level just feels like an extension of Ravenholm...and then there's a fuckin shocking moment where a character just gets senselessly murdered in front of you, and then it goes all Mad Max 3!

Can't recommend it enough so far, and liked the previous two games too.

So I've been having a bash at Batman: Arkham City and feeling more than a little underwhelmed.

The biggest issue for me is the city. It's huge, dense and sprawling, but due to the night-time setting and garish neon lighting, it's really difficult to distinguish one area from another, especially when zipping from rooftop to rooftop. I've been left feeling disorientated which is a problem when many of the tasks require you to find characters or items within the city (sometimes within a time limit). Indoor sections are better, but still disorientating when switching between normal and detective views.

This might sound a little odd, but I think the game also suffers from having too much going on at any one time. There are far too many side missions and quests available as you travel round the city, so the first few hours are bewildering.

I'm also sick to death of the unreal engine.

I'm gonna stick with it, but it's not much fun at the moment.

Yeah, the Unreal Engine and its "hold on a min, I've just gotta load these textures and make it look like arse in the meantime" was old 2 or 3 years ago tbh.

Will rent this as actively didn't like the first one in the end, but will give this a go as Dead Space 2 turned out well for me in spite of me disliking the first.

Have got Rage coming next from LoveFilm.

I wouldn't have minded having a dabble with Batman, but the first game didn't do much for me at all. And constantly switching his bat vision bollocks thing on and off just got on my tits. It reminded me of Halo ODST where you could switch that night vision thing on, and I ended up leaving it on 80% of the time. Just so inelegant I think.

Except for a couple of stealth combat sections and mission specific moments it was hardly used. Imagine if you go for the riddler trophies it will be on a lot

Daytona USA on XBLA man this game is sooooooo good. They really have done an accurate arcade conversion and it brings back so many memories. Sure, it won't be for everyone, especially the younger crowd who probably won't "get it" - what with it only having 3 tracks and handling which takes some getting used to. But for anyone who was around during the arcades heydays, this is a must buy.

800 points if a pittance for reliving my youth (although I was hardly a youth when it came out :) ). It just feels so good sticking on a game you haven't played in years, but it all come flooding back as soon as you see that attract sequence and hear that music :)

They have thrown in some extra modes, like challenges, where you have to do things like knock all the cones down in the pitlane, or maintain a certain speed while drifting around corners. It is a pity the achievements are far too easy, and aren't instead based around those same challenges.

I'm amazed that so far it isn't on the main page of xbox live as I would have imagined there are plenty of people out there who haven't even noticed it has been released.

It has 8 player online as well - that mixed with the endurance runs where you need to pit every so often makes for some fun races. Seriously, beg or borrow some points and buy this game, that way good sales may hopefully translate into perfect conversions of Sega Rally, Virtua Racing, Scud Race, Touring Cars etc etc.

These retro re-releases are just not doing it for me.

They seem to get great reviews, encouraging me to invest my cash on games I loved 20 or so years ago on the promise of a graphical tart-up and pure gameplay. So for example I laid down 800 points on Guardian Heroes last week, and after 5 minutes I was thinking 'what the fuck is this shit?'. It looked awful, played even worst and completely destroyed my great memories of the original.

Daytona is a game I played endlessly on the Saturn, but I have no doubt that I'll feel the same about the XBLA version. I also fail to see how any of these retro fitted 'classics' will appeal to younger gamers.

If I want retro-style gameplay I'll pay 69p for it on the iPad. There's no way I'll pay close to a tenner again for something I have rose-tinted specs about.

Well that's the flipside of the argument really. I'd never - not ever, even for 60p - buy some crappy ios port when I wouldn't have any buttons and need to use shitty touch controls. I mean, if retro games aren't that appealing, surely completely fucking them up by not being able to control them properly makes them even worse?

GTA 3 is coming to iphone and that is surely going to be an abortion. I recall people looking forward to Secret of Mana - a relatively pedestrian game, but then it being torn a new arsehole because it controlled like shit.

Give me a pure arcade experience like this on a big screen any day of the week.
