In between slogging my way through Arkham City (which really is testing my patience), I've been having a blast at Sonic Generations with the kids. They're finding it way too tough, and it certainly is a bit bewildering for an old fella like me, especially when things get up to full speed. Can't fault the presentation though, and it seems as though there's a hell of a lot to unlock and find. I've already found a Sega Megadrive which lets you play the whole of the original Sonic the Hedgehog. Somewhat worrying, the original is much more responsive than the shiny new version. |

Rage - this is starting to lose all focus for me now as I near the end of the game. I really enjoyed disc one and the hub town there. I liked the aesthetics and the characters. Disc two's town has a lovely Blade Runner-esque look to it, but there is hardly anything to do there outside of the main missions so it feels like the NPC's are just window dressing as no one seems to have anything of worth to say or jobs for me to do. Very odd how it just potters along here with no real reason for me to be doing what I'm doing in-game. Skyrim isn't here yet, and despite Game sending me a despatch email yesterday, I'm not expecting a delivery today sadly. But I'm posting it in this thread now, because once it arrives it is going to take over my life and I'll be far to absorbed in it to come here and proclaim it game of the year (you shut yer mouth before you start Diddly )

Who are you kidding? You won't be naming it GOTY, you'll be moaning about its bugs, despite it being 1.1'd on release day ![]() |

I can always forgive open world games any bugs Oblivion and Fallout never bothered me in that respect. Hate when games have bugs when they are focused linear experiences though - or anything from Codemasters!

Oh well...I suppose a 10/10 from Eurogamer is an OK score. I'd love to love this, but the lack of guns and general Elvishness will probs kill it for me.

I hear ya Bro. These type of games always sound better to me on paper than in practice. I start out enjoying the environments and the journey from one place to the next, but as soon as I need to stop and talk to an NCP to advance the plot I quickly lose interest. |

Yeah, it's a bitch innit? I could play Fallout forever, but I just know that the minute I set eyes upon a "wench" wearing a "jerkin" or any of that medieval shit, I just go all instantaneously bored...and then I can't go into VATS and blow someone's head off with a sniper rifle....

Uncharted 3 still not feeling it. It is a pleasant enough experience, but I honest;y don't get why people gush over it quite as much as they do. I've also noticed that graphically it can be a bit poor in places, which seems odd as I thought Uncharted 2 was quite the looker. But it is Nathan's animation that continues to piss me off - it is a fucking mess to be honest. People complained that Nico in GTA IV leant over too much when you turned him as you ran. But Uncharteds animation has too many fiddly little add ons that look completely unnatural. One prime example is a puzzle you have to do. There are a series of tiles on the floor that you have to walk across in a certain sequence. I defy anyone to do that first fucking time - not because you don't know the solution, but because getting Nathan to walk slowly and follow a tight path is fucking impossible as he always wants to do weird little side steps or kind of quick back steps. It was a pain in the arse and took me far longer than it should have all thanks to how he animates. Cutscenes are great though, and the characters faces - especially Mr fourth member whose name escapes me - look fantastic. They do eyes very well which is what most devs never get a handle on. |

I'm going through an awful bout of insomnia at the moment so haven't actually played Skyrim much. Firstly my order from Game didn't arrive yesterday, which is the first time they have ever let me down (or rather the post office I guess). I went to the local Sainsbury's, which paid off as it was only £36.99 there. I sleepily made my character and went through then initial events at the beginning of the game that then lead you out into the gameworld. I visited the first small hamlet - which the game kind of encourages you to do if you so wish. I plodded around there speaking to various people and picking up a ton of quests. But it all seems a bit hazy now as I was half asleep when I did it. Graphically it is a massive step up from Oblivion. The first cave you travel through feels like a proper cave - it feels unique, whereas in Oblivion it was clear caves were made up of tiles placed in random orders. This one was lush though, with a nice stream running through it. I'm liking the combat as well, dual wielding is nice, as is having a weapon in one hand and a spell in the other. Not got too deep into it yet, and haven't noticed an easy way to switch between various weapons, but I'm sure that will be in there. So yeah, only played maybe an hour or so, and as you know, in a game like this, that is not even getting your finger nails onto it, never mind scratching its surface. All I know is, that the world looks so good that I can't wait to sink hours and hours into it. |

Good deal. I'm pleased that you're pleased dude. Maybe lots of virtual walking around will help the insomnia

Played some more Skyrim last night and did my first side quest which involved going to a nearby dungeon - which was enormous! Not only that but it had a lot of variety in it as well. I've been reading of people doing loads of dungeons and them all being huge and feeling totally unique. To be honest it is gobsmacking how they have managed to fit all this content into a little over 3 gigs - very impressive. Managed to suss out how to quick swap between two weapon sets as well. What is nice is that if I use a sword in one hand and a spell in the other, the game defaults to the spell in the opposite hand if I then choose the same sword again. I'm just at that point now where I feel overwhelmed and am not sure what direction to head off in. Oh and one nice thing now, is that they have a variety of animals wandering around. It feels much more alive and "real" after Oblivions large - but empty at times - world. |

I cant understand why the eight directions of the dpad have not been implemented as in fallout etc Changing weapons, shields and spells to cumbersome and slows game down, the favourites option is no substitute |
