You press up on the dpad and then highlight which weapon/spell you want and then hold either left or right on the dpad for a second and it locks it to that direction. I had to read that elsewhere because I'm bloody sure the game doesn't explain it to you.

I've then found you just hit left or right and it toggles between the two, you don't actually have to remember which is on the left or right side. I agree though - I can see why they did the favourites things, but it isn't a substitute for just having a quick 8 way option for various weapons. It's a pity they didn't do something like say, hold the dpad up and then have a ring menu of weapons appear that you can quickly rotate to. Very odd design choice considering the wealth of weapons you find, and also of course that characters are much more rounded in terms of being adept at many weapons and spells, rather than Oblivion where I was specialising in bows (which I am in this - I like the long range approach)

It's great wandering around though and randomly bumping into other people in the middle of fights etc. I must admit though, looking at the world map it doesn't appear to be as large as Oblivion, but they claim it is. I guess once it starts filling up with locations as I come across them, I'll change my mind.

Finished Uncharted 3 last night. Hmmmmm... sure it is a lovely looking game, has some cool set pieces and great acting - but game of the year material? Nah.

The shooting kept being a pain for me right up until the end, I never got to grips with it (a hit ratio of something like 30% shows how much trouble I had with it). It's being patched, but when your game only takes 11 hours to complete you need to get your fucking arse into gear getting the patch out there. Too little too late. It felt like Drake was just pushed along to any places which gave an excuse for some over the top set piece rather than because it fitted in with the flow of the story.

And I could definitely have done without "that" stage where you basically do nothing at all but walk. People who have finished will know which bit I mean. It should have been one long cut scene and just felt like padding because of the games short play time (it took me 11 hours, and that was with me trying to scour every nook and cranny for treasure)

Oh and those other sequences - where you are "affected" (trying not to give spoilers) more than outstayed their welcome, just awful to play through I thought.

Uncharted 2 was a much better game I thought, and even that one didn't have me creaming my pants. It would be a shame if this was the last game as it is fun watching the well acted cut scenes. In fact I'd probably prefer it it became a CGI mini series instead to be honest.

Rage

Finished this last night and found it really "meh" tbh. It felt like it SHOULD be an open-worlder, but there was no real reason to go wandering. Very bland.

Battlefield 3

After all the vitriol about the SP of this being rubbish, I actually quite enjoyed it...as much as I can enjoy these po-faced shooters, anyway. I also thought it was of a decent length (oo-err).

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - takes a while to get going (possibly close to an hour before you see any real action) but once it does, it is bloody lovely.

I wasn't sure on the graphical style at first, as I'd have much preferred them to have used Wind Waker style graphics again, but they are growing on me and it does mean that it doesn't look too bad on an HDTV.

Gameplay-wise they have mixed up the Zelda formula quite a bit. No longer do you have an open world and then find dungeons. Instead you fly down to the world below your floating town, and the whole open world areas down on the surface are like dungeons themselves. In fact I'd say that traversing the area just to get to the first dungeon, easily took as long as playing through the dungeon itself.

My only gripe so far are the motion controls - not because they are poor etc - but because it actually makes my fucked up wrists ache quite a bit as you really do need to pay attention to your sword swings in order to defeat enemies, and especially the bosses. It tracks the movements very accurately to be honest, and that of course, means I have to work my wrists overtime.

So far I have only had to slide one box in order to climb onto something, and haven't had to set fire to any torches in order to get locked doors to open. They really have tried to make it feel fresh.

I'm already enjoying it much more than Uncharted 3, and despite loving Skyrim, I keep finding myself thinking about Zelda and switching Skyrim off. And with a reported 40hour ish play time, I have plenty of good stuff to look forward to in this :)

Having now started 3 Zelda games, including the sainted Ocarina of the Time on 3DS (and excluding Twilight Princess which has been in its wrapper since I got my Wii at launch), and got utterly bored with them and sick of the twee unspoken dialogue increasingly rapidly with each one, I think I'll be leaving Skyward Sword well alone.

Saints Row 3

And another game appears that acts as if the last 5 years never happened; hideous graphics, fucking abysmal framerate, completely broken aiming and weapon selection and fucked checkpoints. Cheers cunts, I was really looking forward to this as well...just had a mini boss fight that turned into a cunt-fest thanks to all the broken shit listed above.

Interesting. I've been on the lookout for Saints Row 3 on the cheap (missed it for £25 on amazon the other day). Curious to hear about poor graphics as every video I have seen has shown a nicely detailed world compared to the older games - certainly looking to be on a par with Rockstar stuff.

I'd still like to try it for myself though just to see. But will need it at a nice cheap price.

Had a dabble on MW3 as managed to borrow a mates while he is away for a few days. Got to hand it to them when it comes to spectacle. I love the transitions from ground to air that they do, or even the sub mission where you emerge to a battle scarred New York. Still prefer the more intimate setting of a Medal of Honour though. I feel like I'm the one actually doing the work in a game like that - whereas the mayhem in MW always makes me feel like a bit player with the A.I seemingly doing all the hard work at times.

Saints Row 3 merely looks ok.... the fucking rank framerate sees to the rest. The other issues pissed me off enough that I've already chopped it in for Skyrim.... and I hate elves(!)

So Modern Warfare 3 then. I mentioned I had borrowed this off a mate and was enjoying it. However, each time I had loaded up the game I noticed it mentioned how long you had been playing for, and also percentage complete.

I figured I wouldn't get it finished as at around 4 hours play time I was something like 40% complete. Next thing I know, I've finished the game with less than five hours on the clock! Turns out game completion also includes the spec ops stuff, which in my eyes is a bonus and shouldn't be included in the completion tally.

It's one reason I'll never be buying a Modern Warfare game ever again. It is easy to say it has replayability of you do the multiplayer maps. But as for unique content, they are way too thin on the ground for me - someone who has no plans to go online and listen to teenage boys call me a fag.

Think the full 100% completion on single player is to do it under all difficulty levels
Believe the spec ops modes have their own level of completion

I would never buy a COD game anyway; they are the perfect rental game for me as I never go online anymore, and the SP is so short. I think I also miss them being WWII, but that might just be me being rose-tinted.

That's even worse if they consider 50% of the game content to just actually be playing it on a harder difficulty - jesus.

I'm curious to know where they take the series next as I can't see them making another game that fits into this timeframe/gameworld at all. I think I have said it here before, and am sure others have mentioned it - but it really is about time they split the game in two and let those of us who aren't bothered about SP just buy a cheaper version of the game that reflects a five hour game time. It must represent one of the worst value games out there at the moment if you don't go in for multiplayer bollocks.

Who is the old lady who's using Juz's ID and what has she done with him? ^o)

Ummm... HIDEOUS? It looks as good as GTA IV, with a similar draw distance, pop-up, normal frame rate and frame rate jitters, and it's better in every respect than SR2 - what were you expecting Grandma? :sigh:

"BROKEN AIMING"? (have you played Uncharted 3? - that really is broken).

Should have played it on "Casual", it's the normal setting really and there's no achievement for completing it on a a harder setting. It's insanely good fun in hour-long bursts, and the co-op is now stable and credits both players with missions done.

And the deciding factor between these two disparate games; the females in Skyrim aren't slutty enough for me, there is no contest. I could watch the boobies jiggle and the asses wiggle in SR2 all day long if the missus would let me. And FFS Juz, Skyrim has aiming issues all over the place - I've had arrows stuck in thin air here, there and fucking everywhere, it's pathetic. Despite a lovely environment the wooden, PS2-like Skyrim character models sully the whole game for me. Talk about "it's like the last 5 years never happened" - they look like they were animated with some 15 year-old animation shop software, on the Friday afternoon before it went Gold. Fucking rubbish. And what's with the fiddly weapon/spell selection and ridiculous ragdoll and after death physics? Kill something on a slope and it slides down it like it's been greased! "Cunt fest" indeed. "Game of the Year"? MY ASS. :arse:

...and that's why I never got on with GTA IV that much, homo!

I'm very much enjoying Skyrim - maybe I *AM* turning into an old lady, cos the sedate pace of Skyrim really appeals. If only it had guns rather than bows and arrows.

Oh, and I don't think that I could change the difficulty on SR3 once I'd started? Oh I dunno; all I do know is that I just knew that I wasn't gonna grow to love it - it just felt too rough and ready.

Skyrim don't stay sedate for long m8, unless you go to a lot of trouble avoiding conflict and do a LOT of vegetable picking and book reading, which while sedate, isn't very profitable. Auntie.

Yeah you can just by going to options. If you wander off and do your own thing like I do (and I suspect you too m8) and ignore the prompted missions it gets tough very quickly, the frequent 'survival' pop-up missions with the Giant Oleg clones are tough as old boots and they naturally do a lot of damage. I soon got pissed off with dying and turned it right down to 'Casual' from 'Hard', you immediately take less damage and do more. I'm having a great time with both TBH, 20+ hours each.
