I'm afraid I am going to side with old miserable bastard on this one - I didn't find him funny at all. But that kind of humour never works on me. In a way he reminded me of Robin Williams in that I could never understand how anyone ever found him funny. To me he just talks and talks, sometimes shouting, and sometimes just using a silly voice, but never actually saying anything funny.

I've seen some people post videos of rage quits as well, where basically the (usually american) guy will just start screaming and swearing, yet not being funny.

But hey, each to their own - I know I find shot ton of stuff funny that other people don't.

Back on games (kind of) and that new Xbox dashboard - holy shit it's bad. What a convoluted fucking mess, and for me a personal niggle that Indie games are buried even deeper than they were before. I may not have bought a lot of them, but the fact they barely get a look in now is a real shame.

It's clearly designed to get people to just buy Kinect and use voice recognition to navigate. Arseholes.

Yup. The "flawless" navigation when using Kinect to swipe from one blade to another is just like off of of that Minority Report.

No denying it's very jazzy and clever and from the future and all that...it's just that the controller is 5 times as fast and doesn't involve waving your arms and talking to the telly like a mental.

Oh I can imagine it being super quick if you use voice. But I have my Kinect disconnected as it doesn't work properly with my fat Xbox. If I have kinect enabled, but its mic switched off, I can't use my normal headset as other peoples voices come through the Tv. I have it set to just have voice through the headset, but kinect fucks it up somehow :/

Microsofts response is always "make sure voice is set to come through the TV", right after I have told them I have it set like that. I actually sent them a message on twitter the other day asking about it again. And their reply was "probably best to just disconnect kinect for now". Amazing!!!

Yeah I must admit to having trouble finding things myself, and it is all about Kinect, something I'm beginning to thnk is both a dead horse and a white elephant. And why did the update have to delete your former theme? It took me ages to find out how to put my "gorgeous girly arse in red dress" theme back in place.

Oh, and the fucking "beacon" feature - what a great idea! (if it made any sense or worked)... I'll be jumping in to a lot of friend's games of Skyrim and various other games that don't actually have multiplayer games because "whatsisname wants to play this" and it even tells you that "so-and-so wants to play thingy" when they're playng something else! (I've turned mine off, and apologies to anyone it annoyed. Fucking TWATS. [flame]

Been playing some Battlefield 3 and enjoying it I guess. But honestly, it is totally interchangeable with MW3. It's a pity the frostbite engine isn't nearly so impressive as the lead up to the game would have you believe.

MW3 runs at twice the framerate and had rather long levels with nice transitions between ground and vehicles. Battlefield 3 even had a bloody loading screen to go into a rather naff looking airport mission while I was flying. I could already see the ground so why the effing loading sections. Plus screen tearing here there and everywhere....ughh.

Also had a dabble on Arkham City, and like Asylum I just don't get it. I like traversing the city - but that takes no time at all, as far from being a city, it is more like a small suburb...its tiny! Then you go into the missions, and they are all the same - a large room with convenient little places above for batman to latch on to, and enemies who deserve to die for never ever looking up to the fucking obvious place where Batman will be hiding. So yeah, all a bit meh.

Highlights this year for me are Skyrim and Zelda....Zelda being a nice surprise. But Skyrim beats it for me quite comfortably. Can't recall what came out early in the year that I really enjpyed. Oh and MarioKart for 3DS is rather nice, with online functions which are.....functional at best. Good old Nintendo, still half a decade behind everyone else when it comes to connectivity.

I have Arkham City waiting for me from LoveFilm...the thinking behind it is that I didn't like Dead Space, but loved Dead Space 2, and am hoping this will follow that trend as I thought Arkham Asylum was shite.

Mate fetched over Saints Row 3 today as I fancied picking it up now the price is dropping. Firstly, I think Mrs Juz is slipping something into his evening cocoa as it isn't nearly as hideous looking as he said??? Also not had any issues with the framerate so far to be honest, and I quickly switched v-synch on which takes its toll on the framerate.

Sure, it doesn't have the level of detail that GTA does, but as a step up from SR2 its massive. It also made me chuckle a few times in the first hour or so. Not had any issues with checkpoints either? The times I screwed things up, I was put back into the game either in the same spot, or just slightly past that point?

However, it all falls down when you start driving. Fuck me - why are they still fitting all their cars with Pirelli Araldites that stick to the road like the proverbial glue. You meet a corner, turn the (extremely sensitive steering) and you make that turn. No ifs or buts, you make the fucking turn. Cars have no weight, no inertia....nothing. Totally bizarre how they have stuck (literally) with that driving model as it tarnishes the whole experience for me much more than graphics, framerates or anything else technical.

Seriously thinking of not buying it now as I can't abide it at all. I want to go exploring the city with my female rock chick in her bra, pants and huge tits, but if she has to drive those cars, I'd rather not :/

edit: not sure what Juz means by broken aiming? I can aim better in this much much much better than I can in Uncharted 3, and with no lock-on getting in the way I can hit targets were I please. I also like the quick wheel selection for weapons. Its a much better system than having to cycle through them in GTA

Oh I don't know! I just didn't like it, OK?

I thought the cutscenes were very good, but that was a bout it - just felt sub-Just Cause 2 (which is the absolute pinnacle of sandbox gaming imho), and the driving IS shit. Loved the feel of the cars in GTA IV (about the only thing I did like).

Maybe I wasn't giving it a fair crack, and just wanted to chop it in for Skyrim, but I never actually got on with SR1 or SR2 either - just never clicked for me.

I didn't get on with SR1 or 2 either. Mainly because the driving model really pisses me off. Thing is, SR3 has now popped up on Play for £17.99 and for that price I'm sorely tempted to get it and just use helicopters, or walk wherever possible.

I can't remember: did you play Just Cause 2?

EDIT: Played Batman Arkham City for a couple of hours and enjoyed it...although the tediosity of constantly fighting groups of thugs for a few minutes at a time from the first game is still there. Marvellous art direction and graphics, though.

Yeah I recently went back to Just Cause 2. I enjoyed it while I had missions to do. The trouble is, that for the size of its gameworld, it had far too few of them. There are a fair few towns etc left to polish off and get 100% on, but none of them have any story attached to them whatsoever. And while I do enjoy zipping around the island, I eventually need something story focused to keep my interest.

There are so many locations that they could have done some nice little dlc missions. Here's hoping they add a lot more of them, plus some diversity to Just Cause 3 (which they announced last week)

Been picking lots of indie games up on Steam recently (as well as old classics) and found this one to be pretty captivating.

The art style and atmosphere is very good - the narration of your actions and descriptions of the locations really help you get into it. The world forming around you is a great way of keeping the enviroment seemingly interactive and adds to the intrigue. The art itself is amazing though, certainly easy on the eyes.

Combat's pretty good if a little repetitive, but it's deep enough that it doesn't get boring. The variety and upgradeability of the weapons keep them interesting too. There are times where the isometric view makes it difficult to stay on the world though and with the amount of enemies coming at you at times it can be frustrating.

There are extra things to do which unlock bonus abilities or cash. Most of these are weapon based challenge areas which are challenging but not too much - you get into the "must try again, it IS possible!" routine

Story wise it's a bit odd. Initially you have to collect cores to rebuild the world after the calamity which in itself is just a do a level, collect a core. However, you pick up items in the game and you can ask about them when you meet the narrator back at the home area. Also, details about the world are also revealed when you meet ash "statues" of former friends and occupants of the world. Again, it's all very atmospheric and the drip-fed details keep you going but sometimes you do want to know bigger chunks of the picture.

Overall I'm enjoying it though and I'd recommend it if someone wants something a little different. It's very polished so it doesn't feel at all like you're playing a small budget game.

Battlefield 3

I must admit, I like competitive online FPSs. I also like flying helicopters. Therefore I'll be spending most of my time playing this and I'm slightly ashamed.

Driver: San Francisco

Got this yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. After my disappointment at FM3's driving feel, I love chucking the cars in this game about. The switching car feature is pretty fun although it makes ending take down missions a bit easy - scout on ahead, find coach/lorry, handbrake into path of oncoming "enemy", repeat, job done.

Besides that, It's fun, not too serious and it has a decent soundtrack. We'll see how it fares in the long run though!

Just an update to say how amazing Skyrim really must be.

I'm 75 hours in and started by focusing all of my efforts into turning my Dark Elf into a wizardy mothafucka....for the first 50 hours or so until I discovered the joys of archery. I can now one hit kill a Giant (provided I stealth-hit the lumbering retard) and two hit kill a Mammoth.

If I wanted to, I could turn my attentions to becoming a Greatsword wielding maniac for the next xx's of hours...what I'm trying to say I that this is a truly customisable (in the truest sense; not just changing my hair colour) game that lets me play how I want to play and at my own pace (I'm only a tiny bit into the actual story).

Not mention how very solid the game world feels and looks...this is a good-looking game, too.

Anyone still dithering about this needs to get it...now.

Couldn't get on with Oblivion but about 10 - 12 hours in and really enjoying it! Buggy as shit though and my PS3 froze today whilst playing it which was the first time in memory a console has done that! But I can forgive as it's just sucking me in. I spent a couple of hours just going from one village to another just getting side tracked and as I couldn't fast travel had to do it by foot. Blinking loved it.

Also, Mario 3D fucking rocks. Galaxy games were okay but this is awesome. Seriously never seen a better looking handheld game. Just lovely.

Yeah, ditto on Oblivion; just bored me. Dunno what they coulda done so different with this, but it works?

Update:

Just played an hour of Modern Warfare 3, and I have to say that I'm impressed. It's kinda the polar opposite of Skyrim, but this really is the closest it gets to playing a Bruckheimer movie. The whole set piece thing is mighty impressive, all helped by some really beautiful visuals. Shame it won't be very long, but I think I'd be worn out if it was an epic.
