I couldn't ever get into the first Trials game on XBLA. I am not a fan of the constant restarting in order to perfect a level. But everyone on my friends list seems to be playing it so I feel like maybe I should give this more of a go. Tried the demo and wasn't blown away.

Having said that I did see a video of the mini games in it and the flapping wings mini game almost sold me :) Now add me on facebook you miserable old twat ;)

Finally finished Silent Hill: Downpour. On the whole I really enjoyed it to be honest. It did suffer some issues though. Monster design was attrocious, combat was clunky (still think that's intentional though, but that doesn't mean you have to like it), the save system is appalling. It started off seemingly giving saves at good intervals. That quickly became it saving randomly, but not actually saving at all. It cost me a good amount of play time at one point.

The worst thing it did though, was rob you of your items on two or three occasions. I got past where I thought I'd be ok and started hoarding medipacks ready for the final boss, only for it to have a cut scene play out and then low and behold all items gone.....everything :/ Luckily even on hard the last boss was a doddle.

On the whole though I think Vatra did a good job and with better sound and monster design I think they could make a really nice Silent Hill game. I hope they are given another chance and it was far superior to the dreadful Climax attempt at the franchise.

So I started on Assassins Creed Revelations. It's more of the same, but there is something about that series that just grabs me. I could literally spend the whole game just climbing tall towers to find the viewpoints.

I also downloaded Trials Evolution....against my better judgement. And I fucking hate it. It's too random for my liking. I'm no fan of "deaths" that you can't spot and keep rinsing and repeating until you perfect it. I'm trying to muddle through it, but christ it's a chore. No idea why people get so worked up about it. I do like some of the user generated stuff though....very inventive :)

I wish I could enjoy the Assassins Creed games (tried 2 of em, found both boring).

I'm playing Prototype 2 and loving it. It really is more of the same, but fucking shit up in NYC never gets old.

Just started playing Prototype 2 (having never played the first game) and am loving it. This is how you do a mutant hero style game - are you listening Infamous? I love the mix of wacky super powers and also that Crackdown feeling because of your super jumps.

I have just enjoyed building up my character and looking for the black boxes etc. It's a shame the actual city sections aren't all streamed in as one and instead have the helicopter rides, but I guess the more compact areas means they get to have the impressive amount of shit onscreen all the time.

So yeah....might pick up the first one cheap when I'm done with this.

I would almost argue that getting the first one would be redundant as it really is more of the same, but with about a trillion, billion (roughly) wrestling-name-type moves in it.

If its more of the same but a completely different city then I'm fine with that.

Forgot to mention I played episode one of The Walking Dead. Never been a fan of Telltale games in the past as their actual game tech is very old school and not the most playable. But I loved this game and can't wait for the next episodes to appear.

It actually has moral choices in the game that genuinely affect the story, and it is helped that it is well written and well voiced. It's basically in the mold of the 3D broken sword games - that is, a point and click game but with character movement and the odd little action sequence. I think it was 400 points and it took me around 2 hours to complete I think.

I'm itching to play through again making different choices though and seeing where that leads in the next episodes. Worth trying the demo for sure.

Bad luck. Prototype 1 is actually more of the same in EXACTLY the same city!

I only love em both cos I rented em, I'd be pissed if I had to buy em both as they are sooooo similar.

Well that's disappointing. After all the shit Crackdown 2 came in for, seemingly everywhere on the internet (for using the same city) I'm surprised I haven't read a single complaint about this game reusing the same environment.

Maybe cos Prototype never went as virally popular as Crackdown?

Same city doesn't bother me.

Crackdown 2's city was identical to Crackdowns, only with a few damaged buildings and roadblocks. Prototype's city was a cut down but geographically accurate-ish approximation of Manhattan, P2's city is "NYZ", the top half of Manhattan is blocked off, few landmarks are in the right place and the 2 islands to the south that you start the game on don't actualy exist, so it ain't the same city is it? For the record fucking up Birmingham would have been good fun, although the mutants would have been uglier and a lot more dangerous.

Loving Sniper Elite V2's one trick (the wonderfully gory X-ray kill cam). I'm playing it through on the hardest setting for most bullety realism, and the checkpoints are extremely tough. It feels a bit old-fashioned in places, like playing an old PS2-era Medal of Honor or Call of Duty game in third person. The thing is that you don't get the kill cam with every kill so it's a gimmick that never gets tired, and some large maps make for some truly spectacular long shots.

Looking forward to getting Snipey V2 on LoveFilm...maybe nasty checkpoints will see an early return, but I adored the demo on all difficulty settings.

Gotta at least try a couple of missions on "Sniper Elite" difficulty m8, anything else feels like cheating and chucks the wind effect out the window. Really enjoyed it despite some mean checkpoints and highly recommend the game as a buy or a rental. It undoubtedly has many old flaws (clipping, jerky AI movement, a few scenery-related aiming issues and AWFUL sound) but it's sufficiently different from the usual old bollocks that it's almost a "must play", if only to see how different a shooter can play and feel from the MW3s of this world. Had a fun session with SteMac in the game's survival mode, and am looking forward to playing some more co-op.

Found a stupid glitch in the DiRT Showdown demo, which feels so dumbed-down that ir's more like Destruction Derby 2012 than anything else; if you have manual gearbox selected in your profile preferences then you get stuck in first gear for the entire race as the stock car has an auto box and there's no way of changing anything in-game, and so you have to quit to the dashboard to change it! A bit worrying that it got through testing that, suggests that no one testing the game ever plays manual, so they must all be small boys or gay. :-/

Small, gay boys.

The demo thoroughly underwhelmed me TBH.

Yeah not really a fan if that's an example of what to expect, and it's not what Codies' game engine does best. And for the record: I had enough twizzling around cones in DiRT 3 to last me a lifetime.
