I'm playing the new Doctor Who PSN game and not enjoying it very much. The fact that it's Doctor Who means I'll forgive it the somewhat old-fashioned and repetitive gameplay. However, I can't forgive the game-ruining bugs or the fact that there are so few checkpoints. The latter, particularly, is a bloody pain because it's not an easy game and having to stop for dinner or something only to return and find that the last save is so far back and forces you to repeat half an hour of teeth-gnashing grind is enough to make me want to eat my own internal organs! It's a shame, because it looks pretty good for a download game and the dialogue and voice-acting (when they don't randomly disappear just when you need to know what you're supposed to be doing) really captures the atmosphere of the show. |

It's no secret I'm a huge Rockstar fan, but all that onscreen fuzzy nonsense has put me off a purchase so far. In my youth I did a LOT of drugs of varying kinds - and while I've seen some trippy shit, I have never experienced the kind of crap I've seen going on in that game. It's like first person games that have lens flare - YOU DON'T SEE LENS FLARE WITH YOUR FUCKING EYEBALLS!!! Wish devs would cut back on "arty" shit like that. Meanwhile I've been playing Dragons Dogma and am loving it. It won't be everyones cup of tea because it is a game that requires a huge commitment to be honest - along the lines of something like Dark Souls I guess. Only this game has a proper save system ![]() One thing I really like is that you have 3 A.I companions. Two of which you can choose that have been created by other players. And when you borrow them, they do this really cool thing where they will give you hints and tips when exploring dungeons or fighting new creatures, based on whether they have already encountered them in someone else's game or not. One example was when I started a new quest and was in this pitch dark dungeon looking for a hidden switch. Suddenly this A.I character I had borrowed comes out with "I've been here before, the switch is over here, follow me" - and sure, its a little bit of smoke and mirrors going on. But it makes it feel much more "alive" than something like Skyrim, where any companions appear to be brain dead. Your own secondary character (or pawn as they are referred to) can also be used by other players and when you sleep at an inn, are updated with whatever they have done in someone elses game, plus come back with useful items. That has been about it really. Oh yeah, played Binary Domain and fucking loved it. Well worth checking out - what a little gem of a shooter. Edited by Retrovertigo, May 28 2012, 10:45 AM.

The fuzzy screen effects on Max Payne 3 are just odd...more Headroom than Payne TBH. It's going back unfinished anyway; I just can't be arsed. It's too repetitive and unwavering for me. Plus (and get this for ODD) I always have my verticle look inverted in my Xbox Dashboard prefs and this game is fine with that during gunplay....UNTIL you use a scope! Then it all reverts back to normal, which I literally am too spacced up in the nut to use. Weird. Poor old Max - 1 & 2 were brilliant. |

Any game that doesn't give inverted options at all times should be cremated immediately. So lazy when devs don't include that option. Doubly annoying when it is only included with certain game modes etc. That has put me off more than the fuzzy effects. Rockstar and their bloody insistence on trying to be all Hollywood :/ |

I might have missed an option somewhere, but I'm sure the scope thing WAS an oversight.

Been quiet here lately chaps? No one watch E3 and wanted to vent their frustration at how incompetent the big three seem to be these days? Anyway, been playing Lollipop Chainsaw this weekend. Started it Fri night and finished it yesterday, so not the longest game in the world (I'd say around 6-7 hours?) but it is more of a budget release - I've already seen it at £25. What great fun though. It's full of Japanese whacky shit of course - including plenty of upskirt shots and references to small white panties ![]() It plays really nicely, with combat which can seem a bit shallow at first, but the game is clearly meant to be played through several times for the time attack mode, and you won't open up all the combo options on your first playthrough. The voice acting is great and they have a genuinely funny script to work with. I did actually laugh a few times, which is unusual for a videogame. So yeah, worth a rental for sure, if only to see how Japanese game makers aren't afraid to through in a ton of ideas - some of which don't work that well of course, but at least they have a go at mixing things up a bit. The graphics are a bit ropey which does make it look a bit dated. I've never understood why Unreal engine can look pretty damned good in Epic's hands, but with other devs it can look so .........unfinished? Still playing Dragons Dogma and loving every second of it. It's a pity it hasn't been given quite the recognition that I think it deserves. But then looking at the past couple of months sales figures for consoles and games, even the mighty Rockstar are struggling to shift big numbers with games like Max Payne. I don't buy all this "it's time for the next gen machines to boost sales". If indeed the economy is playing its part, then the same people who aren't spending £40 quid on a game aren't suddenly going to spend £300+ on a new machine, new controllers etc are they??? |

Hmmmm....not me. Quite happy with the consoles I have at the moment. I see stuff due out like The Last Of Us and I see graphics that look fantastic. That plus I'm rather happy with the current situation of games dropping in price pretty quickly. Can't see that cycle happening with new consoles for quite some time. I guess when you rent stuff it isn't so bad. But I like to pick and choose what I play and then take my time with it. Buying all that new gear again isn't something I'm looking forward to. I've just had to sort out my replacement TV from John Lewis and it means me paying money towards it and new TV stand, and I'm gutted to be doing that :/ |

Playing Ghost Recon Future Soldier and loving it. Good atmosphere and like customising the guns. Cant be arsed with the Kinnect part though, god even knows where our Kinnect camera is these days ! Next Gen could be interesting. I think the next xbox is bound to be a Xmas 2013 product, just a question of is Sony get there early or late One thing for sure, ill not be in a hurry to buy another Sony machine and will probably wait til Uncharted Next Gen comes out |

Just completed the boat mission on elite - think 3 more or so to go not found anything frustrating about it too much, like the stealth and the ability to take a fair few sections how you want |

Problem is that I'm getting more and more "casual" about games, so really only play em for the experience, not the challenge, so anything that vaguely frustrates me gets binned off back to LoveFilm. That's why I love sandbox gaming. |

I think if Microsoft nail it with plenty of video playback options with the next machine - and also improve video output quality - then I won't need a PS4 for quite some time. The only thing my PS3 gets used for, apart from Gran Turismo and Uncharted, is as my main media box. It plays back more types of video and the quality of the picture is definitely above that of the 360 where video playback is concerned. If MS get that right, and fingers crossed they will, then I don't see what Sony could do to tempt me day one. That plus it is a safe bet most people I know and play games with on Xbox Live, will all migrate to the next Xbox in order to keep that community of friends going. |
