Annoyingly, because I'm still deep into Kingdoms of Amalur, I had Darksiders 2 pitch up yesterday...I'm gonna be hacky slashy RPG'd up the wazoo!

Yeah - GTA V looks nice...but I'd rather play it on 720 than 360.

Friend of mine who is a games dev has posted a huge rant about how glitchy Darksiders 2 is. Haven't played it myself yet as I have still not got around to playing the first one. But it seems he keeps falling through the gameworld etc.

Oh and Juz, you are a mentalist. But seeing as you got stuck in the snow that time and clearly suffered from exposure and brain freeze, I forgive you :)

Lollage. That's the least of my mental aberrations!

I love my 360; it really IS the bestest console I've ever had (not this EXACT one, obv...cheers RROD), but the very real prospect of an "every game at 60fps" console due to the fact that resolutions won't change but power will just gets me itching for a new one. I'm sure that when the 720 arrives, loads of games will still be <30fps due to shit programming or just devs putting waaaaay too much detail in there but..ya know?

I’m really not that fussed about new consoles (yet!) myself. Great when they arrive but this rabid fever is pretty much media driven. A large chunk of the news and social media comments I read blame Sony and MS for not delivery consoles, and consequently dev’s not taking risks (for new IP and new ideas) and as a result the games are stagnating. Well, nothing to do with recession? Maybe this is the cycle and the way these things go – but apart from more poly’s, >frame rate etc what can they offer that will facilitate new ideas/direction for devs. It’s all excuses and bullshit I think – it’s a very risk adverse industry but not a cash rich one so I suppose it's indiciative. But not because the console makers fault for holding back.

talking of a lack of new ideas I have spent a couple of hours on Darksiders 2! I read this is the most derivative game the reviewer had ever played and it’s difficult to argue the point! Tomb Raider, Price of Persia, Zelda, God of War, Zelda – they’re all plainly in there. Not so bad if they were all implemented as well or better, but they’re not. I played the first dungeon yesterday and it was beyond easy and simply by the numbers. Also the art direction is a bit meh for me, neither cartoony or serious. And the voice acting is pretty shit as well. But in lieu of any other decent new games out I will give it a go. But tempted to try Limbo and some other stuff I have been meaning to get round to!

Well I'm still playing Sleeping Dogs and it really is fantastic (bar the driving model, which continues to suck balls. I fucking hate that Saints Row style of cars sticking to the road like glue). It is a joy just wandering the world seeing the sights. And nighttime when it rains....those reflections ....oh man. I'm also picking up more and more combo's as well and I'm now a bad ass when it comes to the combat. Such a nice change of pace not having had to use a gun so far. I really hope it sells well (currently top of the charts) just to rub salt in Activisions wounds for letting it go.

And Juz, you may be in for a massive disappointment with next gen. as you allude to. I watched the Squaresoft press event the other day where they discussed the demo they had at E3 (which looks fucking stunning)

They talked about how it was done on a high end PC - but runs at 30fps. I'm sure with advanced motion blur techniques etc that it will look better than current 30fps games. But it seems devs are already looking at adding bells and whistles at the expense of higher framer ates.

Fuck the bells and whistles! I want 60fps.

There IS method to my madness and it is this:

I played GTA:VC to absolute death on PS2...a while later I got it on PC and the diference on the already great vehicle handling when coupled to 60fps was like night and day - it was genuinely astonishing.

@ Retro - yup, the vehicle handling in Sleeping Dogs is HORRIBLE! Give me that weighty, sloppy GTA model any day.

I could have sworn I read an interview ages ago where someone from United Front games was saying how they had a lot of ex-EA Black Box staff and so the handling in Sleeping Dogs would rival racing games as EX Black Box were responsible for some of the Need For Speed games.

No idea where it went wrong as they clearly don't seem to know what cars should handle like.....as for the bikes - I'd have been dead a long time ago if any of my bikes handled like this.

Also finished Infamous 2 yesterday and was quite sorry it ended as I was really enjoying it. Not sure whether to go back to the first just to continue my fix, but I hated it so much :/

Infamous 2 was a brilliant game IMHO..but then I did also love the first one.

I dunno what it is with Sleeping Dogs, but it's just not clicking with me at all. I think I may be immune to the charms of entirely city based sandboxers. Just Cause 2 set the bar so high, as did San Andreas, but I think it was cos they both had oodles of countryside. GTA IV and Saints Row left me pretty cold too, and I think it's cos they're entirely city-based.

The other MASSIVE problem I have with Sleeping Dogs is the one thing I thought would make it awesome: the fighting. When in one of the endless missions of having thug after thug queuing up to punch you and your health takes a pounding...you're fucked. Unless I'm a retardo, there's no way of regenerating health in one of these instances. Just watch it dwindle down to fuck all and then restart again. Or just sit there and do counter after counter after counter. Shit.

No idea if you have missed this or not? But by doing various moves you increase that yellow bar on the right. Once that is full the screen changes hue and you start regenerating your health. That is the tactic you should be using - it is basically trying to get you to mix things up instead of button mashing.

In contrast to your own feelings on the city, I'm absolutely loving it. GTA games are usually the only ones where I'm happy to walk around and explore. Just Cause 2 is a great game, but fuck me if the world isn't as boring as fuck. It is too repetitive....or empty. There is nothing of note to see. It's because they were so ambitious of course with the scale of the world. It means they had to repeat assets too often.

I'm finding with Sleeping Dogs that it has enough diversity - not to mention having collectables that add something to the game - that I have spent ages just walking around having a nice time.

Anyway...important!!! - not sure what to play next on my PS3 our of Borderlands, Darksiders or Strangers Wrath HD....

Need an answer for this weekend.....which judging by this place, will be as likely as Jessica Alba coming here begging for some cock. .... and offering to pay me for the privilege.

You talking Borderlands the original? If so, YES! Loved it to pieces.

Had a quick try of Borderlands last night, and as soon as I needed to aim a gun and kill some bad guys, I switched it off. Jesus, those sticks on the PS£ pad are fucking awful for shooters. There is nowhere near enough resistance in the analog stick springs to allow for accurate aiming. It's like playing a game with loads of lag, you end up aiming past where you want to, trying to correct, and just aiming somewhere else.

I actually almost died during the tutorial as I fought with the controls, all the while the bad guys shooting the shit out of me. What a shame a proper 360 pad adaptor has never been made for the PS3. There is one floating around, but the analog triggers don't work properly with it.

Saw enough to be intrigued by Borderlands though. Shame for the HUD having way too much stuff glued to the screen though. This new plasma I have (Panasonic GT50) is super sensitive to retention :(

I fuckin loved Borderlands (possibly my first game that I realised that I was turning into an RPG nerd), but would never want to attempt to play it on PS3.

I continue to despise the driving model in Sleeping Dogs; it's almost a game-breaker.

Remember: these are supposed to be random cars/MPV's that you steal off a street corner, not Caterham-style twitch monsters that hit other cars like they're solid blocks of wood with no feeling of inertia or...crumpleness. GTA IV got that SPOT on - sloppy, non-grippy things that you get randomly. Guess that's the difference between a dev that makes its own physics engine and one that buys one in and tweaks it?

Getting close to the end of Sleeping Dogs now. I've loved every minute of it to be honest. I even managed to get used to/tolerate the car handling.

I think Juz mentioned a while back something about the day night cycle being out of whack to favour night time. Pretty sure that is the case, but to be honest I'd have preferred a permanent night time in this game.

I normally like my day/night cycles, but this game loses too much of its atmosphere once day time comes around. I think the nature of its story means that night time is when scenarios are best played out.

Not quite sure what I'll play after this. I have Yakuza 4 I'm working my way through, and while I do enjoy the stories in that series, it feels really restrictive after playing an open world game. One small town area doesn't really cut it these days, especially when Sega have used it in the past games as well. It all feels very familiar, and not in a good way.

Right fuckers, now I've bothered to type something out for the first time in weeks, type something back you miserable twats ;)

Well, I'm playing Darksiders II and finding it all a bit tedious tbh. Maybe coming off the back of Skyrim and then Kingdoms of Amalur was too much to ask of it?

Just counting down the mins till Borderlands 2!
