Nintendo has announced that the Wii will be priced no higher than $250 in the US and ¥25,000 ($220) in Japan.

I'd expect £180 here then.

The next gen war gets more interesting...

Well I'll be having one of those then :)

At £180 it will be worth owning just for Nintendos 1st party offerings.

What kind of release date are we looking at for this?

Hmmmn - somehow a £130 ish price break point would be almost tempting.......ARRRRGGH - what am I saying?????!!!?

My Mum-in-law might bring her DS round this weekend (complete with Nintendogs), so I face even more Ninty exposure.

Need to add on VAT and a little premium for the UK.

£179 is probably a low enough price point to make me buy, even if it is just a dustcube with a weird controller.

The thing is, now that Nintendo have embraced online play, I'm absolutely salivating at the ideas that they can come up with for it.

Having said that, we can guarantee there will be very little to buy on it aside from 1st party stuff, unless it's hugely successful.

Dunno why, but I've had a figure of £129.99 in my head for the Weevolution for ages now. Maybe I just imagined it, but I coulda sweared that's wot hearded guv'nor.

I hope so, really, I think the price is plausible, but I can't see it happening with a US price of $250 - the US has to add their state sales tax to the price, and we have to add VAT.

It's been a busy week in gaming...

£130? £180? Both wrong, but looks like Juzzer was a bit closer...

£149 Wii set for November
10:00, Sep 8th by Ben Parfitt
There’s still a week to go until Nintendo officially announces the details of the Wii launch – but MCV can reveal that the new console will hit retail by November 24th, it will be priced at £149 and stock will be plentiful.
Nintendo is remaining tight-lipped until its conferences next week, which take place on Thursday September 14th in the US and Japan, followed by Friday September 15th in Europe.

But MCV believes that Nintendo has chosen to launch its next generation console at £149, a figure that falls slap bang in the middle of the varying estimates that have been discussed for months. This makes Wii £50 cheaper than the Core Xbox 360 Pack and an estimated £275 cheaper than PS3.

Though the final details were thrashed out before the news of PS3’s delay emerged, a planned release to coincide with Thanksgiving in the US is anticipated. MCV expects Wii to launch shortly before Friday November 24th in the UK, giving it a lengthy spell at retail in the run-up to Christmas.

Senior industry sources have confirmed to MCV that Wii stock availability will not be an issue in the UK, with plentiful supplies anticipated for both the November launch and the Christmas run-in. This should eradicate any pre-order woes and will be enough to satisfy demand across retail.

Looks like Nintendo are taking full advantage of having cheapo hardware. £149 is ridiculously tempting, but I'm just not sure about the Wii controller.

EDIT: Apologies, but this article appears to just be an educated guess at the price and launch dates rather than set in stone facts. Although we'll know within a week.

OK, it's 'definitely not right', according to the Nintendo UK boss.

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/nintendo/nint...rice-199405.php

Key here is 'They're not far off, but they're definitely not right', so the price is either higher or lower IMO.

I say £169.

$250 in US on Nov 19th. Includes 1 Wiimote, 1 Nunchuck and Wii Sports.

NES titles will be $5, N64 $10, and SNES somewhere in between on 'Wii Channels' (the name for the virtual console).

Japanese launch is Dec 9th I think, European announcement tomorrow.
