MS has announced that there's an update coming for the 360, with the main changes coming to the Dashboard, including a download manager that allow you to queue 6 items up (and will work in the background as you do anything, including playing a game).

Another interesting thing is support for playback of music encoded in Apple's AAC format.

News here: http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6151874.html?sid=6151874

And there's a nice demo video on that page too, presented by two fascinated chaps.

Hopefully they'll have unfucked the 60Hz DVD playback too.

pfft, that's been on the marketplace for ages now, i downloaded that about 3 or so months ago!

would be good to queue all that stuff up and see one and a half of them downloaded by the time i get home from work though!

OK, well, they didn't mention it as an out an out feature, it's just on the demo video and I thought it was interesting.

Few other things:
- You can set your 360 to go to the start screen rather than running the disc in the drive on power up.
- When you put a DVD in the drive it can resume from where you last left off.
- You get set to 'away' on Live when the 360 is in the screen saver mode.

Sounds like there's a high chance of them unfucking the 60Hz DVD playback.

that sounds pretty cool actually, there's always been the little things about the interface that annoy you a little bit but you let go, it's nice to see they're addressing them so early.

Get a decent budget DVD player mate - imho the 360 is still rubbish as a DVD player

Its good though to see Microsoft listening and reacting to users comments

I'm not really using it for 'home cinema', just for the odd bit of telly via DVD in the evenings (no aerial plugged in), so the quality is just fine for me - it would have to be an incredibly cheap player to justify having another box under the telly.

Apparently something on the latest Major Nelson podcast about why the update isn't out yet... so that may mean we won't be seeing it today, or MS may just not like doing patches on a Friday - I believe Tuesday is their preferred day, at least it is for Windows patches.

According to Major Nelson, it's out in just under an hour (2am PT, that's 10am BST), and can take up to 4 hours to be notified of the update.

Will try that later - reckon it could easily be bullshit...or true. *ahem*

Anyway - after I updated, the bast wouldn't let me sign in properly (i.e. Marketplace wasn't on the screen) and plus my wireless controller keeps randomly turning itself off despite new batteries being put in...twice.....PLUS I've had a shite day at work....pricks.

Yes! It switches back to 50Hz output when a PAL DVD starts up. Hoo fucking ray.

One of the features mentioned in the list on xbox.com is 'DVD player outputs at native resolution over VGA connection' - could this have improved your picture Dunc?
