I know it's a bit early to get Juz all excited (ooh, matron! :rolleyes: ) but a report over on C&VG suggests that GTA IV will be built around the same graphics engine as Table Tennis. If true, then the visuals should be a treat to behold.

Remember when that source of mine revealed the existence of Harriers and BMX's and the RPG character stuff about a year or so before the press got hold of it? I REALLY need him to contact me again...*wink wink*

It's NEVER too early to get excited about a GTA game - EVERY one has surpassed its predecessor.

Yeah, and Stubbs the Zombie used the Halo engine. :rolleyes:

I see the attraction for indoor locations, but what part of the TT engine suggests it would be any good for drawing a GTA game's staple requirements (draw distance, loads of buildings and vehicles)? Just because a game engine does wonderfully atmospheric and detailed interiors that doesn't mean it's any good for panoramas. *cough* Doom 3/Quake IV *cough*...

Anyhoo, rather than talking about what might power GTA4, Big Tony and me played a not-much-talked-about game called Just Cause a few weeks back, now that has got my GTA glands excited.

How's that looking Bon? As good as those screens suggest?

I'm warily optimistic about Just Cause. Scarily, it smacks of the abysmal Boiling Point (probably undeservedly) and it has a few hyperbolic statements surrounding it at the moment. Still, looks as though it has potential.

Interesting to see where GTAIV gets set though.

1960s London!

God no, hopefully they'll create a completely new city, although im not really sure what theme and era they can delve into this time (please not the future)...

Why stop at one city?

San Andreas had more than one city didn't it?

The possibilities are endless; if they DO do London, then they could easily include Essex and...................*drumroll*........SUFFOLK!!! Imagine that!!! They've already got the tractor/combine models from the sticks in SA - 'twould be a piece of piss.

/idiot.

Seriously, I think I'd prefer it kept in the US - it helps with the escapism for me. The Getaway did precisely Jack Shit for me as I actually "know" LA, San Fransisco and Vegas far better than London (and I've flippin hated it every time I've been there) cos of all the films and US TV series' I've watched....plus the Getaway was fuckin broken in so many ways.

I've heard rumours that Mexico City may be on the cards, although I seriously doubt it. Personally, my dream place for GTA IV to be set would be...

*drumroll*

Tokyo.

boo, aside from some Yakuza meddling i don't think it would work all that well, mainly because we like GTA because it bases itself in a fictional Western world, something we can slightly relate to (even the american in-jokes you can pick up on). That and we've all been told about crime and brutality in america etc so it's not much of a surprise but we hardly know anything about Tokyo!

I think they need to either extend the counties (maybe some more interior locations?) or take the series online. anything less and it'll disappoint.

Possibly true, but Tokyo is known for:

* Flash cars
* Lots of money floating about
* Large-scale gang warfare
* Street racing

Etc....

It could be made to work very well, but obviously R* are wimps.

I don't think it matters a gnat's where GTA IV is set - maybe it'll be international this time like Driv3r. And before anyone bursts into tears I'd like to say that if R* had done say, even The Getaway it'd have been great and fun because their games are all about the gameplay. Rockstar San Diego's Midnight Club 2 even made Tokyo and Paris exciting places to race around, so yeah, why not leave the States behind? - and the answer is quite simply because it's the only place on Earth that a GTA game could be set without seeming ridiculous, that's why. hEy WayedaMinniT, aM i Arguing with mYseLf aGaiN? :blanklook:

Yeah - I guess the locale really is secondary. As long as there's the odd "Oooh - I recognise that" moment then it really could be anywhere.

Anyway - enough about locations - let's talk about wishlists.

And I'll start with one I wanted in VC/SA:

1. Ragdoll. Or, more accurately, the fantastic mix of ragdoll/animation implemented in Max Payne 2. I spent HOURS shooting peeps in the side games, with invincibility cheat on so that the endless slaughter wasn't interrupted with the nuisance of dying.

2. REALLY destructible environments - or just Havok physics taken to HL2 levels. Actually, the physics in GTA have always been good, but with the power of 360/PS3......*drooooooool*

EDIT 1 - my first observation! For three stars where are all the rozzers?

EDIT2 - Mexico City as Rook suggested? Check those palm trees out! And does Mexico city have a tram network? See tram tracks on road!

And if I may say so, what a charming smashing blouse you've got on
