My 360 has damaged my FFXI game disc - I've contacted the XBox Support via e-mail and hope to get it changed - but how do I get them to supply me with a new disc that their faulty hardware damaged?

Fortunately the backup plan now kicks into action - play FFXI on my PC using that version :)

I hope you get it fixed soon mate, damn thats bad news :o

Edit: How did it damage it? I know you wouldn't have moved the 360 whilst it was on, I'm wondering how it did it? I hope they swap it for you :/

Don't know how the disc got damaged, certainly didn't move it when operating - the drive has always spun constantly (noisily) when a game is playing (funnily enough, not when a DVD-Video is playing). Waiting for MS XBox Support to contact me.

Initial response was something of the order of "Microsoft does not accept that the console damages discs - using the console (can) damage discs" - wtf!? So, I never switch it on?

Anyway, resorting to the "may I please speak to your supervisor" tactic, I now have to call them back with my Ser.No and address (duh - they know that from my Live ID?) and they will organise a replacement (I clarified "new") unit.

Now, how to go about getting a pristine FFXI 360 disc - contact Square-Enix?

Call the number in the back of the FFXI manual - they will replace scratched discs as long as you send them yours. One of the industry's arguments against mod chips is that there's no need to have a disc backup playing solution as they will happily replace damaged discs for free...

Organised UPS pickup of the 360 yesterday from work at 09:30 - picked up at 10:10 (handy) and got an e-mail today stating that it had arrived at the repair centre - here's hoping....

Yeah i've heard that arguement, but little about anyone actually trying to use it.

A mate had his 360 scratch various disks, again MS said basically "not our fault, you must have done something". I told him to hassle the shit out of them, as i know various americans have had 360s and disks replaced and fault accepted over there, and he's got a result too!

Microsoft sends word that the free repairs for early Xbox 360s are indeed part of a new, official policy. They also seem to be admitting that that first run of 360 consoles had some issues.

As part of our standard and ongoing process of analyzing repair data, we recently noticed a higher than usual number of units coming in for repair. Upon further investigation, it was further discovered that the bulk of the units were isolated to a group that was part of the initial manufacturing run of the console. Returns for repair are coming in for a variety reasons and it's a higher rate than we are satisfied with. We've made the decision to comp repairs for consoles manufactured before January 1, 2006, and provide refunds to the small group of customers who have already paid for repairs.

Microsoft and their Xbollox 360 represent one of the biggest console jokes of recent years, just after their original Xbox.
