Hi guys,

My GP32 died recently and I'm on the mooch for a new handheld, of course I first looked at the GP2X but now I'm seriously thinking of purchasing a DS.

Does anyone have one? or any opinions on them?

Tbh I would have just got a GP2X but the thought of DS Advance Wars, Harvest Moon and Zelda have me drooling.

Thanks for any info.

I have a DS Lite, imported from Japan pre UK launch.

I've tried to find the thread where we were talking about the DS and DS Lite, but I can't find it.

Oh look, I found it: http://z13.invisionfree.com/Gamecell_Forum...p?showtopic=120

Anyway, I really like it. Out of my games, Advance Wars DS is excellent (logged 25 hours on that...), Mario Kart DS too, Kirby Power Paintbrush uses the stylus really well (but a bit dull for me), and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is well worth an import for the slightly bonkers Japaneseyness and a good challenge.

And there are plenty more quality games out there, not forgetting the GBA carts you can get for naff all.

Both the DS and DS lite play Gameboy Advance games.

I play my Nintendo DS more than any other system right now; its constantly delivering superb titles in many genres. I bought Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan about this time last year and I still play it lots now, its ace.

The new Mario is excellent, as is Trauma Centre, Phoenix Wright, Animal Crossing, Another Code, Nintendogs, Project Rub, Rub Rabbits, and Castlevania is great too. And don't forget the awesomely brilliant Mario Kart, which works flawlessly online too with no lag, at sixty frames per second.

It really is a fantastic handheld and shows once again that you don't need crazy graphics and the need for a new TV to experience fresh and very interesting videogame experiences.

...including the new Rebelstar game, which is finally being released here in October.

I'd agree with this - I have almost all of these games too and they are fab!

Can't wait, the more I read about the DS, the more I want one :D

We won £51 on the irish lottery last night too so thats £25 each, that'll get me another game :D

Trauma Center is #1 on the list atm, I fear it may be a little repetative but it looks fun. also interested in Animal Crossing, Advance Wars DS (or I might pick up the cheaper GBA version ;)) not sure about Phoenix Wright.. only 5 cases looks a little low.

Roll on payday...thurs ;)

Each case is quite long, though and the 5th case is almost as long as the others put together. The story's a cracker too.

Rebelstar Tactical Commander? If so i imported the yank ver a while ago, played it to death and thought it excellent. Much like X-COM games but without the earth/base stuff. Very well done.

I've got a DS Lite (Japanese) but i found many of the games just killed my hands. Stuff like Nintendogs is fine as there's no action to speak of, however games such as Meteroid Hunters was crippling for my RSI.

Something to do with the combination of having to hold with one hand, which is also trying to use the shoulder button and d-pad, and then stylus with the other - it was brutal and i could not play for more than 30 mins without having to stop from cramps and pains. Not that the gameplay itself isnt good, just the ergonomics werent compatible with me. If anyone wants to by a lightly used DS Lite...

I got a GB Micro instead, as some GBA stuff is quality, and the smaller form-factor is fine to play on. The screen is almost as good as the DS Lites, but because its so much smaller (and lighter; small mobilephone size) you can carry it about much easier. Worth a consideration if you want real portability.

I wondered who the Micro was targetted at, but now I understand that it's RSI afflicted kiwis...

The stylus isn't really an ideal portable gaming tool. One speed hump is well capable of destroying my brain training score and changing gears on roundabouts is tricky too... But I don't tend to play the DS for more than 20 mins at a time - I get a stiff neck.
