Yeah me too dude, only ever seen one or two bits of footage. I want the experience to be fresh.

People should be careful with their expectations though because it may well be a similar FPS style shooter to System Shock 2 in pace and atmosphere.

For me thats bloody great but it isn't everyones cup of tea. Probably a very 'PC' style game.

loved SS2 - tbh the most I now really know about BioShock is that it got 95% in PC Gamer :)

Cant wait for this though - getting mine from Play so may well get the faceplate that they are offering - doubt will get for launch but thats not too bad as be working that weekend

Just finished reading the Mass Effect prequel book. The story is ok, there's some good and some bad writing in there, but it's keft me with a massive hard on for the game.

Whats the confirmed date for Mass Effect ?

May look at booking some leave for that weekend - KoTOR the ONLY game I have ever stayed up to complete - think played for 36 hours solid (well except for comfort breaks etc)

There isn't a confirmed date - but it's confirmed for November. The biggest shopping day of the year in the US is the Friday 23rd November, so it'll be before that over there (and MS usually get their games out the following Friday here now)... so either the 16th or 23rd is where my money is.

Lair is getting some pretty bad reviews so far, most seem to be along the lines of "looks good" but "controls and plays badly".
This got me thinking, Is this the first big budget(cost lots if I remember correctly) "next gen" game to score below average to poor by most reviews?

Will the pre release hype be enough to save it from poor reviews?

I was well up for this but I think I will just rent it and see what its like now. It looks and sounds wonderful from what i've seen (the orchestral soundtrack is awesome) but according to a lot of reviews it plays like a dog.

Some of the reviews have been astonishingly bad (IGN 4.9 for example) that the motion control system **must** be absolutely borked. Trouble is, I've read a lot of user comment on various forums from people who have played it and many of them say it plays just fine with a bit of practice and acclimatising to a new method.

I really do hope the controls ARE badly implemented in a way cos if I find it perfectly playable I wont be able to trust any reviews when it comes to games that are fully based around the PS3's motion controls. I hope they aren't being deadline lazy and just wishing for analogue control.

Julian Eggebrecht of Factor 5 is interviewed on the EGM podcast this week, and his basic explanation about the controls and most of the other niggles with the game is that it's simplified for non-hardcore players, and it's part of the 'realism' of controlling a live animal rather than a machine (like an X-Wing), so really the hardcore players will always find it frustrating.

Good thing they've brought it out on a £400 machine which is most likely to have a 80%+ harcore ownership.

Sounds like he is talking shite to me. :D

You would have thought making a game with motion controls that do their best to potray realistic dragon like turning circles and flight (thru some quite tough levels like the night time 'avoid the searchlights' one) would be for the hardcore, skilled gamer and would naturally require practice and dedication.

Not filling me with confidence.....

Two new Uncharted: Drakes Fortune videos showing some of the Tomb Raider/ Indiana Jones style elements amongst watery catacombs. Gorgeous!

Speaking of not enough time and too many games... despite the number of games now delayed till 2008, my anticipated list still looks something like this:

Oct:
Half Life 2 - Orange Box
Eye of Judgement

Nov:
Mass Effect
Fable 2
Unreal tournament 3
Assassins Creed
SOCOM Confrontation
Rachet & Clank ToD
Drakes Fortune
Haze
Wipeout HD

Dec:
nothing - well catching up from Nov probably!

Looks like PS3 Unreal Tourney will be delayed till after crimbo Zed, although Epic say they are still trying to get it out for 07. The plus side is that it will get ALL the PC maps apparently.

Not a bad thing for me cos after playing Bioshock, Halo 3 and probably Haze I will have had FPS overload.

Plus I want pretty much all those games on your list and probably one or two more (still need a footy game fix, either Fifa or Pro Evo pending latters reviews).

Too much goodness craptain, my wallet cannae take it!

Strike Fable 2 off too, that game is quite a while off yet..

For the remainder of the year I'm now concentrating on PES2008 and Mass Effect, anything else will be a minor bonus. I'd like Orange Box for TF2 and Portal, but I'm not sure that TF2 will stay around long online.

Burnout Paradise, out Feb/March also looks brilliant.
