Given this a few hours play already and first impressions are HMMmmmm (hence no score yet) Never played a Flatout title before so was not sure what to expect. In my head I thought this would be much more Destruction Derby than anything but if anything its very Burnout like In fact my other half (who kindly got me this) thought it was Burnout - it looks like Burnout - it sounds like Burnout and to some extent it plays like Burnout In fact imagine Burnout crossed with Rumble Racing, then throw in some Destruction Derby types races, sprinkle in some mad mini games and remove any dramtic cut scenes of crashes and you have Flatout UC This is not a bad thing, its just not the game I was expecting. Its very much a race game and I struggled to start with as I was not playing it as one. Its a race game where crashing into the scenery and other cars can be rewarding, but for most events its rather pointless and can be more of a hindrance. Also not having cut away scenes (like in Burnout) takes away a lot of the fun from trying to ram opponents off the road. The racing is fast and is furious and thanks to (what I believe is referred to as) "rubber band" AI they are close. For example if you are in last place the opponent cars seem to slow down and not be as good, yet once you hit first they put a lot more effort into catching you There are destruction derby type moments, but they are not as fun as I thought they would be, the camera seems to tight to your car to allow you to see opponents and the mini map is not great deal of help. The game is certainly fun, its just not what I expected. Burnout does pretty much the same already Will post more (and a score) after a bit further play |

The first game was pure Destruction Derby/banger racing and very good for it, but I was put off buying this one because they've added nitros and other crap. |

Well its possibly the most frustrating game I have played in a long long time After another four hours or so it really is just a racer that treats crashes a little different. However its over reliance on the "reset" button slows the game down and removes you from the race mentality Its far too easy to get stuck too another car and at times the reset button does not recognize this, leaving you to slow down and be taken The rubber band Ai is also a pain, early on it does make for some tight races but its a pain when, having seen a car spin 360 degrees, flip 4 times through the air or see a driver come through the windscreen, that the same car takes you on the next corner The crash mechanics don't feel right - its as if the game can not decide at times what it wants to be, in the races its far too hard to destroy the other vehicles (except by accident) and when you do its often at the expense of loosing the race. As said before Burnout did the "takedown" of opponents much better The races would not be dine if position was based more on destruction caused and if opposing cars could be taken out more easily, but as it is far too often its best just to play as an old school racer. Not something I was expecting and with Forza 2 doing it so much better, not something I needed. It can be fun at times but its just not what I eas expecting from the game. On the plus side, its good that you can win tournanments without having to place first in each race. Usuaully in games like this I have played its always the same person that comes first make the tournament ladder system a bit pointless. Not here though, I have placed 2nd, 3rd and even 4th in tournament races but due to different people winning I managed to place 1st overall. The sense of speed is also very good, everything moves along at great pace and looks good when doing so. I will preserve but not sure for how much longer |

Who voted a 10 ? At least put why ? Went for a 7 It can be fun but more often than not it frustrates - its too much of a racer If they had allowed you to win the races using the "ultimate carnage" suggested in the title it would have been so much better Would suggest waiting for it to drop to the 17.99 mark at play (which I imagine will not be long off) For straight racing Forza 2 does it much better - for fun arcade racing then Burnout is the title |

Nope - the fuckin thing kept giving me the Dirty Disk Error Message Of Doom, so it's going back to the shop today - only loaded up once You should know that I'd never give anything a 10/10 unless I'd been playing it for fookin weeks. |

Your not missing much Its a shame as game has great potential - just does not ever seem to have the confidence to be something completely different, Even its loading menus and game icons are the same as Burnouts |

Its always on the cards innit. You are gonna get some skulking fucker or fanboy who overates or hates something and puts the scores up or down in a ridiculous fashion. Mind you, most websites do that as a matter of course anyway..... |

Damn, you've sussed my review methodology out after all these years, I've been busted! :ph43r: I think I've changed the forum permissions so you have to register to post (or presumably vote), but personally I will miss the odd troll, they're fun.

The previous two games were 8s for me, but I have not bought this one yet due to already having plenty of offroad fun with Dirt, combined with an overdraft limit reduction on the horizon. I will not vote until I have played this one, but basically I have found the flatouts to always provide enough fun to outweigh resetting frustration, and this one sounds like the best one yet (sticky car bug aside). |
