Yep, 8/10 from me. The aspect I am happiest with is the handling. In Flatout 1 there were two handling options - one was oversimplified & easy, the other twitchy & unforgiving. The sequel had no option and leaned very much towards the latter unless you used a FWD car. With UC, however, they seem to have found the sweet spot between the two, becoming challenging & fair.

I gave it a 6/10 (your description of a "6/10 game" was perfect, by the way).

Been playing it a coupla weeks so can offer some opinions. This is not an easy game; I forget how many races I did before coming top three, let alone winning - this made a refreshing change...but, damn it felt weird! Guess I'm just too used to easy wins in Forza 2.

The main problem is that that plagues so many games: unfairness/inconsistency. Smash through a 10 tonne bit of concrete that just bounces off your car? No problem. Hit a tiny bit of detritus (even a cardboard box) at just the wrong angle and off you go, spiralling out of control. How's that make sense? Get twirled around right into a bit of scenery 200 yards before the finish line whilst in 2nd? Just reset. Oh...you've rejoined at a snail's pace....in 6th. Maybe that's "fair" cos it IS a no-holds-barred game, but it just feels wrong.

Some of the replays are truly beautiful and filmic and the slomo is lovely, but why is it, in the age of the hard disk I still don't have COMPLETE control of a replay? I mean, why can't I frame forward/back or shuttle. I know this ain't the only game of this generation with this problem (just look at the frankly shite replays in Forza 2), but it doesn't excuse it especially when you've got games like Timeshift that do it all...in game?

This has all the ingredients of a stunning game for me, but the inconsistency and sticky car bug just makes it average.

A shame.
