I have a retirement present that I need to buy for a guy who, without whom, I would not be where I am today (and also who gave me my username)

He is without doubt the best teacher and mentor someone could have and an ideal roll model. He shall be retiring in a few weeks after 30 years in the police force

I have an idea of what I want to get him but I want it enscribed. On one side will just be a to ..... from .... but on the rear I would like a quote

Something which sums up how he was there for me, how he supported me and how good a teacher he was

Any ideas ?

"There's no substitute for a genuine lack of preparation".

"It's hard to be nostalgic when you can't remember anything."

Seriously though, I think you should write what you think - perhaps even some of what you've said above. Coming up with a canned quote from one of us goons won't really mean anything.

OK - combine the two:

When you teach your son, you teach your son's son, and that means you're nicked son, and so's your son...you slags.
