In September i'm going back to uni to live in a house of four, with the most likely prospect of having four 360s. we used to play split-screen four player but more and more games are dropping split-screen (or doing 2 player only, grr GoW!) so pretty soon we won't be able to play against each other.

short of all getting live subscriptions and meeting up in the lobbies is there any other way we can play? is it possible to play LAN games? and if so would you still need a live account? is there a link cable, like for the original xbox?

if anyone knows it would help, as we're a bit stuck for ideas at the mo!

Yes you can, a lot of games support it (Halo 3 definitely will) and you'll just need some Ethernet cable and a network switch, no live account, although I have no idea what happens if people with differently patched version of games try and play.

Cables:
10m: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/20809
15m: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/20826

Switch with 5 ports: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/60063

You'll need one cable each and one switch. Then it'll pretty much be plug and play.

4 player Halo 3 co-op in your house - I'm jealous.

thanks a lot mate, that's pretty much exactly what i wanted to hear-possible, cheap and easy!

any idea how i'll be able to check which games will support this? don't really want to buy four copies of a game only for it to not work!

Should be on the back of the case or on xbox.com
