Well, that widescreen explanation is complete bollocks really isn't it? Are they really saying it was considered ok to add extra viewing detail for what must be a minority playing in 4:3? I don't buy that for one second. Surely using 4:3 is supposed to end up with you have less to view onscreen, not more.

I call bullshit. I think the giveaway is that in 4:3 you see a proper view of the hand holding a weapon where in widescreen it's cropped. I don't believe that's what they intended. It's too sloppy.

The very first thing Tricia said when she saw Bioshock running was "it looks quite claustrophobic?", i queried further and she said it feels "zoomed in". She's basically a non-gamer, but played 200 odd hours of Oblivion (mostly in first-person), and i thought it funny that was her first comment.

Now playing the full ver i do think it's a cop-out, it does feel like the FOV is wrong, look at the ground and it seems too close, and the width/peripheral vision seems too low. Yes i prefer 3rd person games generally, and this does bug me over other FPSs.

I am enjoying the game, but it has loads of problems. Especially as i had hoped these would have been left behind to "last gen" games; the physics feel wrong, bodies dissapearing into textures, spawning enemies, cant remap the controls, invisible walls etc. I'll reserve judgement till i've finished, but think this is going to be another overhyped/scored game.

Not sure how far into game I am but only "strange" thing I have noticed is the spawning enemies (which apparantly is supposed to be fixed shortly in those places it makes no sense)

Have to say I am loving the game, like Oblivion it makes you feel part of the world, makes you feel like you are exploring it

Currently in the garnes area and its all very atmospheric

FYI - Morrisons are doing it for £32.99 - it's where I got my copy from.

Got mine from Blockbuster, traded The Darkness in for it.

Was given the option of buying the normal or special edition.

4thie- "How much is the Special Edition?"

Blockbuster Worker-"They are both the same price"

4thie- "So there is no difference in what you get?"

BB Worker- "Well, the SE comes in a swanky tin style container and has a neat Bioshock Dashboard for your 360."

4thie- "Oh ok. I will have the normal one."

BB Worker- "REALLY?"

4thie- "No you twit of course I will have the Special Edition!"

BB worker- "Oh ha ha I thought for a minute you were being a bit thick there."

4thie thinks- No, but you clearly are for selling them at the same price.....

I have played about 3 hours worth today and its cracking stuff. Not sure about 10/10 greatness plastered over the net with abandon but its shaping up to be the first genuine AAA title I have played on the 360.

The opening sequence is brilliant and really sets the tone and atmos of the game superbly.

The graphics are generally excellent, with some lovely lighting and textures but there are a few jaggies and bland textures mixed in there too. Water effects are of course excellent (though they have to be for this to work). Character models are really nice especially the big daddies!

Love the art deco style and Rapture is really atmospheric to explore. Good use of sound and the 'search everything' mechanic keeps you involved. Things seemed to have flattened off into standard gameplay a wee bit though and I am not sure it can keep me spellbound with its scripted events and set pieces like say, Half Life 2 did.

Still, pretty splendid so far. Very System Shocky. :)

I have just seen the advert for this game on TV and I do not understand the thinking behind it.
Bioshock is (mostly) one of the best looking games at the moment and they could WOW even non gamers, so WHY have they used CGI in the ad and placed a " not game footage" sign a'la early Harry Potter games.

Anyone else seen it?

Yup, and thought exactly the same thing as you - way to convince those people still thinking of either upgrading to next-gen or re-entering gaming from scratch. Fucking, unbelievably stupid....AND it shows stuff that happens IN the game FFS!!!!

Marketing eh? Pfft!

COMPLETED

With 36 of the 50 achievments including saving ALL the little sisters

My thoughts, very enjoyable, however it never manages to live up to the first few hours play and once you get to the twist in the middle it seems very middle of the road to the end (including rather dull boss battle and end sequence)

Also the crossbow seems stupidly overpowered - Big Daddies combined with crossbow and side step strafe can be taken down very quickly - its made evn more overpowered by the ability to pick up the fired ammo

How many hours did it take roughly dude?

I'm saving all the little sisters too - damn becoming a dad; it renders murderising videogame kids impossible! Maybe on the next playthrough...?

Got it Thursday - would say 3 houirs a day (maybe 2) til today so would say around 15 or so (maybe little longer)

Biggest problem with game ? No replayability for me - to story driven to be any different 2nd time through (with obvious dif ending for killing all little sisters)

Good thing about it is that it adds new bits and bobs to do/see as you go on...well, I'm in the gardens-part of it and new stuff has been introduced.

I hope so because I'm about an hour into the game and I'm... well... bored.
