Well what a terrible tragedy, not only the loss of Britain's greatest ever rally driver but the fact that 3 others, including his young son died in the terrible helicopter crash too. :(

I was lucky enough to meet Colin McRae back in 2000 at a Codemasters 'do' and have to say he was a genuinely nice guy - not arrogant as his "dour Scot" persona might sometimes have projected, but supremely confident with a delightfully dry sense of humour that was often clearly too sharp for the dullards that he'd have to talk to after a rally. Always blindingly fast and entertaining, Colin is most rally fans' "most exciting driver to watch, ever", should have won at least 3 World titles but for untimely breakdowns (and the concurrent existence of rally legends Tommy Makinen and Carlos Sainz). His ability to pull a car back from the brink was second to none.

A huge fan of the games franchise that still carries his name, I know for a fact that he genuinely had input with Codemasters and that always shone through in the game's ability to entertain. It's so ironic that Colin proved virtually bullet proof in a car (including the Dakar rally and the Le Mans 24 hour race) yet died on a pleasure flight. A sad loss indeed.

I agree that it is in indeed a sad news and he will be greatly missed.
We have now lost both British World Rally Champions after the sad death of Richard Burns.

A tragic waste, especially the loss of the children.

Very sad indeed, was upset to hear about his death at the weekend. During my time at Codemasters on the Colin McRae teams I met and even briefly worked with Colin on a number of occasions, and like Diddly just said, he's a really nice guy and very friendly. He was a true hero in a car too, and its a tragic loss :(
