I was de-crapping my gaming collection, and was going to bin the DS Lite, however i thought i'd give it one last go. Glancing over the top rated games at Metacritic hasnt inspired me, so any recommendations for games?

I prefer ones with a bit of choice and depth; Lost Magic, Advance Wars and the ilk, rather than straight platformers or brain-training stuff. Also something to show me the touch screen is actually worthwhile?

Otherwise i'll just have to continue with my (personnal) opinion that Nintendo isnt for me, sure some great stuff over the years, but too reliant on old IP and simple vs complex games.

I've heard good things about Puzzle Quest on here (I think that's what it's called). How about the Final Fantasy games?

I haven't got one myself so these are only ideas, I just thought I'd chip in :)

I have much the same wants as you in my DS games, and good stuff is few and far between. Lost Magic was bastard hard.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime was excellent, but never released UK side. Good mix of exploration, collecting and, er tank battles.

Stick with your PSP Zed that has the more deep and complex games you are after.

Personally I cant stand that sort of stuff on a handheld.

Although they're little more than GBA ports, I'm really fond of the Phoenix Wright games. I've just finished the second one and, although it wasn't as good as the first, it was still one of the best scripted games I've played in ages and the last chapter was one of the best game stories I have ever played through. The after-credits sequence wraps everything up just perfectly and yet leaves it all open for the next game. Even the tutorial is cleverly introduced so that expert players don't feel it's a chore.

The cases are a brilliant mix of great puzzles, funny lines, excellent plot twists and characters even this cynical old git sympathises with (I don't think I've ever cared for game characters as much before). If you play the games in order there are plenty of ongoing plot threads to spot.

Yes, they're pretty linear; yes, there's lots of dialogue to read and no, they don't make much use of the DS's capabilities (the first game does have a really good DS specific chapter, though), but they are old-school point and click gaming at its best.

I'm currently still playing the first Phoenix Wright and find it pretty tedious tbh. Trauma Centre got a bit too hard for my arthritic old hands as well.

Sega presentes Touch Darts

I've been playing this consistently for months and I've still not cracked the final tournament.

Possible the game the DS stylus was made for. Brilliant stuff!

I am currently playing Zelda Phantom Hourglass which is pretty excellent but exactly what you expect (IE- the same as every other game before it plot and exploration wise).

Also Donkey Kong Jungle Climber is a surprisingly good swinging banana fest platformer.

42 gaming classics is ace, especially multiplayer. I play cards, darts and bowling against the bint in bed. Although its a bastard when she turns over cos then I got nothing to lean the DS against.....

Oh, yeah: 42 Classic games is excellent post-coital entertainment (allegedly :ph43r: ), and fun to play on the train too.

I also like Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, which is like a cross between Lemmings and The Lost Vikings.
