It seems this bombed in the U.S relatively speaking. 500,000 copies sold putting it at number 8 in the charts behind Need For Speed!

Still haven't picked up my own copy. Is it wrong I'm more excited about keeping old firmware on my PS3 and looking forward to the upcoming Wii emu more than I am playing any PS3 games?

Firstly what could Wiimu'd games could you possibly want to infest your PS3 with m8? Is it just me or does a Wii game lose any appeal it may have had when played sans Wiimote/Nunchuck? Zelder: Twiglet Priceless was the only Wii game I've spent a lot of time with and it may have well as been a GameCube game if played with a joypad - but oh yeah, it was wasn't it. :D

And secondly; you're missing out on the biggest, daftest, funniest, saddest post-release Beta test ever by not having GT5 right now. It makes F1 look like a finely polished gem of a game. Some of it is so bad it makes me want to cry, so many missing/disabled features, blatant technical errors and the most bizarre progression/reward system I've ever seen. Some of the demands clearly indicate that PD must think that gamers will play GT5 and nothing else until GT6 arrives in oh, around 2025, or that there are going to be a lot of people doing a "desert island" game thing and taking only GT5.

And yet, as I just said to our reviewer Jon I still maintain when you jump in a 500bhp+ RWD car and turn the traction control and ASM off, this is the best driving game this year, possibly ever - that's how much of a contradiction it is.

I dug DiRT 2 out earlier on; a year old and it's a fucking travesty that the rally/handling/physics/damage modelling isn't at least that good in GT5. Oh dear, I'm sad again now. [sad]

Gran Turismo: The Real Sadness Generator.

Chin up Bonners- go and do the Amateur French Cup with that Hummel thing that you win earlier, and marvel at a car made of chunky lego bricks (including its ROUND rear lights) all rendered in 1080p.

It's like that car was lifted straight from GT2 for fuck sake :(

Diddly, it isn't the actual playng of Wii games that I am interested in. It is getting it up and running that I like the idea of. When the N64 was out I had a CD copy device for it. Some games you downloaded were a pain to get working, but I'd read up on it all and figure it out. I'd never play the games, I just liked sussing stuff out.

That is what I'm liking about the PS3 at the minute - doing all the tinkering and seeing what can be done and teaching myself all the new tricks. I've always been like that since I was a kid, more interested in how things work than actually making use of them.

that Hummel thing

Ahh yes, a lovely little French car that looks like as you said, it was either modelled in Lego or had the light recesses and the door scoop hacked out with a chainsaw, with a comparison on what they can do when they try. A level of detail that I'm sure we'd have all been delighted with - even if there were only 300 or so of them.

I don't know why PD and rabid fanboys are surprised at the reaction to this sort of inconsistency. Why have 700 munters, we're not all short sighted, don't all dream of convertible Suzuki Cappucinos and we don't all "gotta collect 'em all" y'know.

It's like comparing this....................and this, and trying to believe that they're the same species.

Apparently they're just about the same age, and the Hummel on the right is the one who looks at poo and preaches healthy eating...

So I went and bought this yesterday. I can't say I'm blown away so far. Once you are sat alone waiting for menus to load etc, everything seems so sllooowwww.

The thing with Forza is, you can dive right into a race within a minute at most. I know GT has many more options etc, but still, running off HDD should speed things up more than it has.

I'm not feeling the supposed superior handling over Forza either. I'm using a pad and any claimed improvements are kind of negated by the fact the DS3 is such a horrible piece of shit.

I was doing one of the license tests that required smoothly taking a fairly sharp bend and then powering for the line. I know for a fact that if I was using the xbox pad I'd have nailed it. But the PS3 pad is so wishy washy with its sticks and triggers that driving smoothly is a fucking art form - especially as I have to use my wonky left hand for the brake. I find that I am subconsciously putting slight pressure on the left trigger a lot of the time and it is enough to apply the brake slightly. The xbox pad has enough resistance that I can't do that (all to do with lack of feeling in my fingers I know, but still spoils the game a little)

Some parts do look lush in the game though I have to say. Even the shitty older tracks and cars look pretty nice because of a far superior lighting engine.

I'll have to get you added to my psn list Diddly. I know you and Juz are both on my 360 list, but only Juz is on my PS3 I believe.

And now, after to trying to save a replay for the first time, it just locks up. And it did it every time since. Cheers GT5!!!!

An ENTIRE 50+ minute reinstall was needed to fix replay problem.

Never had a replay problem m8, but I wonder wht the latest update has fixed/fuxed. I see there's a few new high-paying seasonal events and new "online collector's dealership" (WTF -LOLZMFAO) with a few of the rarer, most annoyingly elusive cars in stock. A bit late for many, this will annoy the fuck out of some people who just couldn't get a FGT car to appear whether they prayed, did a FGT car dance, offered their wives/girlfriends/daughters for swaps etc... and resorted to paying hundreds of poundollars on eBay for one... :'( :ermm:

Yeah do it m8, GT5 is the first PS3 game since Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 that I've actually bothered playing online, and keeping in touch is always good in case we can help each other out rare/expensive/elusive car-wise, although I suspect they may have fixed some of the problems.

Just like to add that I booted up Forza 3. And I can confirm that it's the better game in terms of loading times/menus and super-intuitive replays. It's not as "bouncy" in terms of track bumpiness like GT5 though......

That Hummel thing looks like it's a model they use for cars in the distance and hasn't rendered the right one... Weird.

I'm a little relieved that this turned out relatively badly... It's the first one I haven't been able to own. I'm getting Forza 3 (the ultimate collection job) through the post sometime soon, so I should just be content with that.

Honestly mate, after playing F3 again yesterday, I came to the conclusion that you simply aren't missing out by not having GT5; F3 on its own is more than enough.

In terms of being a fun game, Forza wins hands down. Played a quick couple of races on Christmas morning with some mates online, and nothing I have done in GT5 so far has beaten tear arsing around Road Atlanta in Sierra Cossies.

I'm still enjoying GT5, but the slow pace of everything, plus the lack of progress made during some sessions, is starting to grate. Doing the same races repeatedly, in the hope second hand vehicles appear for sale, just isn't fun.

Plus as I have said, using a pad is bloody hard work. A lot of the licenses and challenges are clearly geared toward using a wheel. One Nascar challenge, I can literally hold the throttle fully open, yet not get to the finish line fast enough for gold, purely because the tiniest deviation from the racing line results in missing out by a couple of hundredths. But with a pad, you simply can't hod a smooth enough line sadly :/ Makes you want to switch it off in frustration. I shouldn't be penalised just because I haven't splurged a load of cash on a wheel.

I maintain Forza has far better trackside detail, and textures as well. The lighting in GT blows FM3 away. But lack of detail and cardboard cutout crowds, do their best to spoil things.

Diddly said he got bored playing Forza, but god, repeating the same races time and again - not to mention spending more time in menus than racing - is equally boring.

I'm hoping they patch in some shortcuts somehow for some of the menu stuff. Once you finish a race it takes far too long to get back to the "my home screen". It should be one click way, not several.

Absolutely agree with this. There's deffo gfx bits of F3 that aren't as good, but overall it just is (imho) more fun and immediate than GT5. The fucking awful loading of EVERYTHING in GT5 (AFTER a 50 minute install!) just kills it.

"Where do I go for an accurate and reliable assessement of GT5?", I mused.... Why the Final Level crew of course! Knew Dave would cut through the bs and get to the exquisite floppily-doppolies.
