No wonder this game cost so much to develop ($265 million in case anyone missed it. Though that does include marketing. But still!!) it shows in the detail. Everywhere you look - even in places where you just know no missions will ever take place - the detail is there "just because" and just in case someone happens to walk down that way. I went wandering down some of the little alleys and walkways in amongst some of the shanty houses in the hills, and there is life everywhere. It is littered with people doing little things to make it all feel alive. On the negative side, I hate that they have dumbed down the driving physics. The cars turn a little too easily now for my liking. But its a minor quibble in what is otherwise a monumental feat on such old hardware. How they fit it all onto such a small amount of ram, and have all the background stuff running as well is witchcraft. I hope Juz gets to play it soon cos I think he'll fucking love it. I can't even imagine what it will be like once the multiplayer portion is released. Apparently that has 500 missions in it as well. That is some value for money. But its the right way to do it. Put enough in there so that people don't want to sell their copies on. Oh and in case anyone doesn't know, Rockstar advise only installing the second disc if you have the 360 version. They advise just using the "play" disc in the drive so that it can stream from disc and HDD simultaneously. People are getting around that by installing the play disc onto a USB stick. You need a 16GB one as an 8 is too small. That is what I've done and had zero issues with texture or item pop in. Cannot wait to get back in to this tomorrow, and I haven't even left the city yet - which as crazy as it sounds, feels as big as GTA IV did! |

So, it did it......it beat COD to become the fastest selling videogame of all time. $800 million on day one in takings. Quite the achievement. Some are saying it could beat Avatar for the biggest takings ever. Not so sure on that, as Avatar is at $2.7 billion. I secretly hoped it would beat COD, but deep down I wasn't so sure, as it seems GTA IV had quite the backlash on many gaming forums. I never understood why, as I loved it. I could see why it might not be everybody's cup of tea, but a lot of people seemed to genuinely hate it rather than just dislike it. I honestly though that would mean a lot of people would take the wait and see approach. But apparently not. Cannot wait for some multiplayer shenanigans. That map and its sheer variety of locations is going to make for some fun times

Yep it's quite a phenomenon. I've never had so many friends online playing the same game (27 at one point), which is always a good indicator or just how popular a game really is, especially when there's half-decent free stuff around and a few other other recent releases to distract people. I too am confused by the backlash on GTA IV, and even heard one fat cunt on Culture Shock say "it sucked." I thought it was a great game, with a multiplayer mode that still amazes me even today (a bunch of us got together for a farewell session last week) - okay so the GTA IV story was a bit dour but that was intentional, Lost and Damned and Gay Tony were altogether more upbeat and fun to play. I think a lot of people have dipped into Blaine County and and got that sunny, free San Andreas vibe, and memories of dark, rainy Liberty City don't reflect well. I was half expecting the GTA IV engine with a bigger map (like most developers would have settled for), but V is SO much more than that. It's very smooth to play, and a lot of the videos (that "must be PC footage") clearly were 360 and/or PS3 gameplay after all.

Ventured into the countryside for the first time last night when it switched to Trevor for the first time. Started off really well with his portion of the story as well Gutted at that cameo though ![]() But once you get out into that countryside your mind starts whirring away thinking about online races, shootouts, police chases etc etc etc. The potential to have this game still in my drive this time next year, is a massive possibility. Sadly I never had the chance to play IV's multi as much as I would have wanted. But even now isn't it still in the top ten played games on Xbox Live? that is some legs. Found a dancing redneck today....just an odd throwaway thing and he is in a place many people could miss. But if you happen to pass by, there he is as a little treat dancing away non stop. I just stood watching him for ages with a blood big grin on my face

The game has me totally sucked in. I had to force myself to go back and finish Saints Row 4, and it felt like I was both depriving myself and slumming it. The only downers I have had are some terrible pop-up (when flying around fast and low to fill in the map an entire hill popped/unpopped)... and worst of all WTF have they done to the helicopter handling? Flying them from a chase cam literally makes me feel queasy

Very few friends on my list but over half had this on at one point. I know of 2 people who even went and purchased a new 360 just to play it ! Even I'm sort of enjoying it The liberal use of the N word got boring quick but soon went away and the rest of the game is very well written and scripted Trevor is great and the freedom of the desert was welcoming Liked the first plane I got to fly Still a few issues for me control wise (shooting from vehicle still a little too finicky) and the targeting reticule is too small and unnoticeable (can I change it to something bigger / darker) Great fun though. Think according to true achievements there where 3 people to have 100% it within its first (official) 24 hours That's some commitments. Probably played 12 hours and only found 2 jumps and one piece of paper |

The helicopter is definitely a downgrade from GTA IV - which is weird when they dumbed down the car handling. What's more bizarre is that at the flight school they teach you all the basic of flying a plane, which is piss easy. But throw you right in at the deep end with the helicopter. Very strange. I'm now trying to pace myself with it so that I don't finish it too quickly. I'd ideally like it to last until the multiplayer is out and then do another playthrough after that. The language doesn't bother me at all. You only need listen to the music to know it is all part of the culture. I used to know some real dodgy blokes a few years back and the black guys in the group used to talk like that all the time. I've seen people complain that they throw the N word around too much....but they really don't. |

By the sound of it, GTA V has all the "homie" shit that pissed me off about GTA: San Andreas. |

I wonder of there are black guys who won't play something like Tomb Raider because of the "posh white"shit in the game? |

Finally managed to get some online time in on this and it's great fun. There are obviously the usual dickheads that rear their ugly heads - in one session a few of them had created a road block with the sole intention of killing anyone who tried to pass. They were even robbing them, so fuck knows what enjoyment they get from that. I'm not a fan of deathmatch bollocks, and I've not had too bad an experience even at that. Though admittedly I'm fucking awful at it. But there is more than enough fun to be had just cruising around or doing the races, parachute drops etc etc. It is such a great world that it is easy to lose hours just exploring with a group of you. Oh and interesting titbit about the script.....I know some of you don't like the street talk and N word being thrown around. Might interest you to know that Rockstar wrote out the basic script then asked the actors to add in any slang etc that fitted in with the environment they came from. So any expletives, slang, n words etc etc, were added by the actors themselves. |

Maybe they do. Not sure if you're implying I'm racist but I just find that style of speech (especially in the exaggerated form that featured in San Andreas) irritating - it doesn't matter whether the person is black, Tim Westwood or Fatboy from Eastenders. |

No no no no I honestly wasn't implying racism at all. I just find it strange that it seems to be white people complaining about street talk, ghetto speak...over use of the N word etc. Whereas I have honestly not seen one black guy on any forum complain at all. I just felt like white people seemed a little overly sensitive to it, perhaps being a little too sensitive? I'm not explaining it very well, but honestly Zai, I wasn't implying racism mate. |

It's GTA, set in LA or it's fictional counter part. Whether you like it or not it's going to be in there plus it carries an 18 cert so I don't see the problem. Anyone else think GTA Online is cack? Why didn't they beta it? It's still having big probs after this second patch. Loving the single player though. All feels very familiar but easy to forget how much it's moved on. Amazing achiement. For the first time ever, I've developed an interest in triathlons. Who'd have thought that! Edited by Indie, Oct 8 2013, 08:57 AM.
