Retro, understand what you are saying, to me it was not so much offensive as just, well boring and silly sounding
It was a bit like the two pilots from Armstrong and Miller doing Gansta and Shit - ok there it is funny, its a comedy programme, but in this it just really felt as if they where going for the teenage wannabe market

Im finding the game a bit of a chore to play to be honest, not because of the above, after first 90 minutes or so they dial back on it, but its just grand theft auto basic at heart
Its lovely to look at, the water is great and there is loads to do at the start but it soon reverts (for the main game at least) a case of drive to A - get mission, drive to B - do mission, drive to C to end mission

The missions for most part are simple and a little dull - the heists whilst a clever and nice idea never live up to the "be in Heat" potential of the previews

I doubt I will get too much further before Batman comes out at end of month

Believe it or not they did beta it!! One of my mates had been in the beta since the game actually launched, which is why it is unforgivable how bad it has been. They had two weeks of it not only being beta tested, but also the fact that even uploading photos to the Rockstar servers was causing the game to shit itself. But even if those two things hadn't happened, this was the biggest launch for a game ever....and pre-orders were ridiculously high, yet they still cheaped out in getting enough servers ready for it going public. The fact it is still a mess is pathetic to be honest. They have enough resources to have got it fixed quickly. Hell, it is said MS require 30 days to turn around patches, but Rockstar have managed to get passed that hurdle, so they have no excuses really.

What irks me the most is that they are barely acknowledging the issues, with the odd little post on their website. But nothing really made public on the various gaming websites to address the whole mess.

Grand theft auto is like call of duty / Star Trek / Star Wars

Just put the name on something and it will sell no matter what. Hype it a bit and it will sell more. Add swearing, tits and violence by the bucket load, annoy dail mail, sell even more

I applaud them for making something so technically impressive and so packed with detail I just wish after all this time they could do decent varied and properly deep missions and add a decent targeting reticule.

I don't think they can win no matter which way they choose to go with missions, and how open or scripted they may be.

I get that a lot of people want things to be as open as possible. The trouble is that you can't really work your narrative in to the missions then - which is a big part of a GTA game.

In something like Just Cause 2, you can do the missions however the hell you want really. But then what happens is, there is no structure or narrative to them, and to be honest they can then become a little repetitive as you tend to stick to whatever works for you. I prefer the GTA way of giving you a degree of openness, but then have some scripted moments to steer you toward a helicopter getaway, of escaping on motocross bike and being involved in a shootout - but having some cool set pieces worked in to those. For me it adds nice variety, but I can see how that doesn't work for everyone.

I'm glad of the small reticule to be honest. I've mentioned before how my replacement Panny plasma is bloody awful for retention, so the smaller the reticule the better. I'm so glad they went with that re-designed HUD as well as the circular one before with the wrap around health bar was a nightmare on my TV!

The one thing with the missions / game is there is no real risk / reward

In games like skyrim etc, completing a mission unlocks different weapons which can't be obtained by other means. In gta though I have never (with the exception of the odd scripted section) needed to go and buy a weapon or a car etc

Everything is pretty much there from the beginning. The cars are as disposable in this as bullets are in call of duty. Ruin one, then just get another. Running low on health, kill self and get revived with no consequence that effects any progress

There have been a couple of good missions, the chasing the plane with the dirt bike was one of my favs but even then it was very very linear. I think as the next gen moves forward I'd much rather, for open world games like this, have a cap on how pretty it can look and use the extra power for the ai and opening up how missions etc work

The police in this are also a pain. They seem to be on you in seconds, a one star turning into two in seconds which soon reaches three with no real player involvement.

It should be staggered. A one star offence would be much better if you could resolve it by pulling over and paying a 10% of your cash fine - then maybe 20% for a 2 star. Both of those being for none death involved crimes

Then once you get to 3 stars you can expect the full on shoot first ask questions later approach

The ai too is all over the place. Hiding is bushes or down alleys is hit and miss. You can be hid in a hedge in built up area and police walk straight passed you and at other times, they run for miles to find you in seconds with no logic.

As usual I totally disagree and totally agree with you Dunk, but they didn't totally fuck it up and sully the memory after the first three like all the others.

And you can change the reticule m8. Unfortunately it still stays as a single tiny point for grenades and sticky bombs, which is a pain. It's pause>settings>display>weapon target>complex.

I can't believe you want GTA to be more like Skyrim (shudder) :X it's an action game not an RPG and they need to be careful not to include too many RPG elements if you ask me. And although they aren't found in secret treasure chests or magically appear when you slay a dragon, several weapons unlock through progress, so you're wrong there.

I agree about the cop/enemy AI, it's far too aggressive with one star (which nearly always seems to rise to two, seemingly just for not surrendering) but the sight cones really do work, and you have to allow for them taking a chance and searching down the odd back alley, otherwise two 90 degree turns down an alley would mean instant escape. As you mentioned, they still haven't figured out shooting from vehicles, it feels ham-fisted to say the least, but the main problem I have with it is how accurate the AI are from distance and moving vehicles, it makes the difficulty you have shooting while driving even more frustrating.

Regarding wanted levels Harry brought up a valid point; why didn't they bring back the stars from GTA 3/Vice City? (the ones you could drive/jump through to drop your wanted level by one.)

GTA Online patch is today, let's hope it stops those cars from disappearing. :-/

Cheers my friend (if im allowed still call you that) for the reticule thing

Skyrim was probably a bad choice I guess
I just wish there was sometimes a bit more point to some of the missions - maybe less missions but those that there are where longer
It seems to me though that with the exception of a few things (parachutes etc) there is nothing that cant be done at the beginning of the game that cant be done at the end and I was just going through the motions with some of the missions. A long drive there just so a conversation could take place that I had long lost interest in happened far too much

Trevor I like, I would of preferred more Trevor (I guess im half way through) - the other two characters im not that fussed by, found them a bit dull and generic
The Star thing would of been a great idea

Its a great game technically, well single player, I have still not managed to get online - have lost over 12 characters so far and now had it reset all the weapons \ cash in my single player with the last drop out :(

Im not sure how much more time ill have to play it though - have bit of leave from Monday morning but Batman will be with me by end of week (I have 2 weeks off for that and told Lucy its because of the wedding anniversary) - I may get a few days in before the Xbone

Are you going next gen Bon ?

I can't really complain about the variation in missions and activities, I mean, even if some feel a bit "old" or familiar, and even repetitive, what other game gives you as much choice in activities? Even after a month, and finishing the game 100% I still find myself heading off to do a "maintenance" mission on one of the business or have a game of golf or a race or something... and then an hour or more later can't remember what the fuck I was going to do having gotten totally lost in Blaine County's incredible environment.

The fact is that you have more freedom and can experiment with the physics, AI and various other things in GTA V more than just about any other game series - and in my book that makes it exceptional. They even allow you to turn your phone off so you don't get nagged by the script or business calls FFS. Genius!

I will also definitely be replaying missions (another genius little feature IMO) and trying to get all Gold ratings, as there were several I thought "I really want another go at that!", and I can't think of too many games where that is the case.

Hopefully last Friday's patch really did sort out the issues they claimed, and the online will be sorted. I'm only Level 9 and expect to play a lot of it. The $500,000 they're dishing out to everyone will help me get a nice start too, and having barely survived two mugging attempts myself and heard some real horror stories from friends the "max loss" thing ($500) is a great idea too.

And yeah, definitely getting an Xbox One, but the PS4, although better designed and more desirable (LOVE the joypad) may have to wait because of the strength of 360 and PS3 titles that I still haven't played and also as there's nothing in the PS4 launch line up that says "must play" to me.

Well I've taken a break from GTA V for a few days (I'm nearing the end and don't want it to be over) so decided to dive into a game that I have wanted to play since launch - Remember Me

I very nearly bought it a few weeks ago, but then saw a rumour it was going to appear on PSN+. and indeed it did :)

And I have to say that so far I' not disappointed at all. I do like that they decided to veer away from it being a cover shooter - which I suspect a lot of devs would have chosen if it were up to them. I can easily see most devs thinking that because it was set in the future, that you could have all many of weapons that fire lasers instead of bullets.

But thankfully this dev chose to have a combo fighting mechanic in there instead. It starts off very simplistic, but I like how you can basically make your own combos and include moves that actually give you back some health.

It never gets very deep - at least not so far and I'm a third of the way through - but coming off the back of the Uncharted game on the Vita (where yet again Drake just huddles behind cover and turns into a mass murderer) this makes a nice change of pace.

They have also built an incredibly detailed and interesting world as well. Sure, it is linear as hell - although if you take the time, you can wander off the beaten track on occasion - but it helps them build something quite beautiful to look at at times.

So yeah, for a freebie it is really nice and I can't recommend it enough to be honest. I'm a sucker for playing games that cram detail into every scene though, and this game doesn't disappoint on that front.

I also downloaded Metal Gear Revengeance on PSN but have only played the intro section, and it is as nuts as I expected it was going to be :)

Finished it!

Gave up on GTA IV as I didn't like it and got stuck on some repetative mission

GTA V felt MUCH easier. None of the missions were a real struggle, I enjoyed it more because of this fact, but perhaps TOO easy.

Only at about 70% completion so far, so still plenty of extra side missions to complete.

Truly a joy to play with plenty of gaming grins when cool unexpected stuff happens.

- radio tunes out of station as you drive into the country
- guy gets run over by passing car as he is trying to shoot me while I hotwire his car
- blood spurts up as I wheelspin over a dead body after a rampage
- dialog in mission changes because I got in the wrong car, "I was waiting in my car for you"
- and so on

Shame the fan on my PS3 is like a wind turbine, thank fully played it on my sons headphones and didn't inflict the whole family with n-word shenanegins

PS3 ending on a high note for me
Insert Coin.

Is there and option to create a snow world when you do online in this then? I pretty much missed the snow when it happened over Christmas. I can't believe Rockstar would create all those extra textures and then just have it snow for a few days.

It would be awesome if they did some updates and it actually changed seasons at the appropriate time of year.

Did dare to venture forth online last night for all of two minutes. Got online, checked the map, and sure enough someone was racing toward me, no doubt to shoot me. Pathetic really. Online GTA V must be my biggest gaming disappointment in quite some time. I really thought I'd spend an age online, doing missions and races. But it seems 99% of the people online either want to shoot you in the face, or play deathmatches ...zzzzzzzz

Perhaps when the next gen versions arrive I'll get a chance to do some proper online stuff.

If tomb raider gets a definate edition, this is bound to,
I imagine work is well under way and a date will be announced when next gen users hit a certain level

How do you ensure that the biggest selling came of all time remains just that ?
Wait til loads of people who already have it go next gen and sell it to them again

As with all previous games, I not that keen on it, but even I'd probably buy it again

Well I'd buy it in a snap. Oh and Fallout 4, Skyrim 2, Just Cause 3 (Mad Max may well do the trick)
